The National Testing Agency (NTA) will release the official data for the candidates who applied for the JEE Mains 2026 Session 2 on the official website jeemain.nta.nic.in.
For the JEE Mains 2026 Session 1 exam, a total of 14.5 lakh registrations have been recorded.
Furthermore, a total of 13.7 lakh students appeared for the January session of JEE Main 2026. NTA will release the recorded number of registered candidates and candidates who were in attendance after every shift of the JEE Main 2026 Session 2.

The JEE Main 2026 Session 2 registration window is now closed, leading to the largest engineering exam in the Indian engineering landscape.
- According to NTA trends and registration data, Session 1 witnessed a record of 13.55 lakh applicants registered for the exam.
- In session 2 approx. 2 lakh new candidates applied for the JEE Main 2026 April Attempt.
- This brings the total number of unique aspirants to an estimated 16 lakh students.

The total number of registrations for the JEE Main 2026 session 1 exam reached a record number of 14.5 lakh. The documented numbers are higher in comparison to the JEE Mains 2025 exam. Out of 14.5 lakh students who applied for the exam, 13,71,172 students were in attendance.

On Reddit, JEE Mains candidates were seen discussing and asking about the total number of registrations in the April session of JEE Mains 2026. Students were making guesses that the numbers might cross 16 lakh, which will toughen the competition. Ques. How many new candidates registered only for Session 2 (not in Session 1)?
Ans. Since NTA is yet to publish the official numbers, unofficial numbers are floating around. According to these pre-exam reports ~2.8 lakh new/unique candidates registered for Session 2.
Ques. Will competition be lower in Session 2 because fewer people applied?
Ans. No one can say this for sure. Competition in the 2nd session is usually tougher because all those students who could not score better in session 1, tries to comeback stronger in session 2.
Ques. Are these number of applicants who applied for Session 2 final or there will be more registrations?
Ans. No, there will be no more additions of students in Session 2 as the registrations have already been close. And the exam is starting from 2nd April, 2026.
