BITS Goa FAQs 2025

Ques. Which one is better for CSE, BITS Goa or BITS Hyderabad?

Ans. Students and alumni say that BITS Goa is now comparable to Pilani, and not Hyderabad, due to its latest advancements and development. Goa Campus has AI and ML labs coming up and are to be finished before the 2020 freshers get-in. This is a huge step, especially in today’s world where AI and ML are like hot cakes and having a good grip on them will help you build a strong profile. Don’t get fooled looking at people saying that Hyderabad is better than Goa. It is false, they are people who have joined the Hyderabad campus and are boasting about it. It is very common for such people to do that—saying their college is the best!

Goa is very-well-known for its coding culture and a student from any campus would agree to that. Goa has the highest number of GSoC selections. Students have heard some good professors of CS have moved from Pilani campus to Goa Campus. No one at BITS Goa would spend his entire 4 years at beaches. Academics are very vigorous - it isn’t a joke! Just sidelining Goa because it is a tourist place is very ruthless. I am not sexist but I personally know girls who choose Goa over Hyderabad for a better peer group, themselves being from Hyderabad. There are some excellent startups coming out of the Goa Campus like Codedman, Clinify, and Postman(most established one). Those who say Hyderabad CS is better are the ones who get nothing else and keep bragging about themselves.

Ques. How are the hostels at BITS Goa?

Ans. From 2018 onwards, most people get double sharing rooms for the first year at BITS Goa. Students and alumni say that the hostels are extremely neat, clean, and well maintained. The toilets are almost like those in a decent mall (All western), 10 per floor and 10 bathrooms as well. You get (almost) boiling water throughout the day and night. In some hostels, you would get a double sharing room, a cot, a big almirah with a mirror fitted, table, chair, whiteboard and a few other storage racks. The rooms are quite spacious and even 10–12 people can easily hang out in a room. Electricity and internet facilities are good, I wouldn't say great. There have been a lot of power cuts recently. The common room is huge as compared to seniors hostels (old ones), with a TT Table, Carrom, Chess and of course, a TV with cable. There is a lot of space in between the hostels as well.

Ques. What are some pros of studying at BITS Goa?

Ans. As per our research, students and alumni list the following pros of studying at BITS Goa:

  • No hostel curfew. Roam around the entire campus as much as you want, whenever you want. . Although it does sound really cool, students have to wake up for 8AM classes anyway.
  • The campus is breathtakingly beautiful. It is listed as India's 3rd most beautiful campus after IIT Guwahati and NIT Srinagar. The campus is filled all around with natural beauty, and the lawns are well maintained. They have a cricket and football grounds with natural grass and the view from the 2nd floor of the Student activity center- the cricket ground and right behind it you can get an amazing view of the ocean (precisely bay).
  • The “mess” food is actually good, unlike other colleges. But one can expect the mess food and the overall infrastructure to be way better, because you would be paying up to INR 20–25 lakhs for your entire stay here.
  • The best beaches in Goa are an hour and a half away from the campus.
  • BITS Goa has a TEDX event specific to our campus.

Bits Goa ????????

Academic structure and curriculum in the campus

I like python and Java. So chose cse. The curriculum is very adaptable to current scenarios. The thing they could improve is taking the things a tad slower cuz it takes some students more time to learn stuff. The frequency is normal compared to govt colleges

What are the internship opportunities in the campus?

I haven't researched much on this so can't really tell right now.... But if I were to guess then the Indian it compianes mostly come ... The stipend and all I really don't know yet but will do research on it and inform soon

What are the placement opportunities in the college and highest package?

7th semester or during internship. Companies fluctuate depending on recession and other factors. The avg package is 26-30 lpa. highest one was 54 lpa as far as I remember . The percentage is very good...avg 99% A Take the job or do mtech...not very clear at the moment

Yearly fees of the course and scholarship

The fees that I will be paying is around 8 lakh per annum, which is higher than other colleges but since it is a private college, it is what it is. There is no special attention for sc/st or management since the college believes in merit over any such stupid believe that some people need special attention and reservations. Although there is a merit cum need facility for op 1 and 2% students.

Students views about the campus life

"waves" is the annual fest that happens during November. Unlimited number if physical and online books. Projectors, laptops etc. Beautiful cricket ground and nets, football ground, gymnasium etc Many clubs...can't mention all.
Campus
Infrastructure & Academic Building
Extra-Curricular

On-campus living facilities

Charging sockets, 1gbps wifi, projectors to see from the back. Very tasty food and fresh with all spices and tastes like home... The registration happens in the admission website only, the fees including mess was around 1-1.5 L. Pgs are costly there because it's near to the beach so hostel was better choice plus its on campus only
Hostels

Faculty and learning experience in the campus

The faculty is very well trained and qualified. The ratio is also very good since many students don't attend classes due to 0% attendance. Can't pick a favorite at the moment. The exams are relatively easy but can go wither way if you haven't studied.

What is the admission process of the college?

I have jee and applied in multiple nits, I chose this because of better placement stats and camlis life. No The admission happens through their own website. The eligibility is simple 75% aggregate in PCM with minimum 60 marks ine each. And the exam you need to give is BITSAT.

I withdrew from the process of other as soon as I got into BITS. I also withdrew my application from VIT. I chose this college over other colleges is because BITS is known for its excellence and great alumni network . It also has one of the most successful statistics of placements over other private colleges. The admission to BITS is done through BITSAT. It takes place every year along with Jee Mains and Jee Advance . The cutoffs vary every year for the courses and can be easily found on Google. This exam is of high eminence and is held high in place along with the JEE exams. After scoring well, the course selection and campus selection process is done through BITS's own portal and is solely based on the marks you score in BITSAT.

My personal preference to join this college as a freshmen was to be among the peer group that wanted innovation and ideas hovering around for my own betterment and a safe future. Also i was only getting the third generation IITs which i didn't prefer even till today to join and advise the same to everyone. I invested in myself. For admission in this college you need to score well in BITSAT or else, you need to be state board topper. Many will think that rejecting third generation iits and taking this might cost me alot later, but prefer investing in myslef which was required, because the new genaration iits or even nits would not have offered me what i am getting today, a healthy and innovative environment, a promising placement, robust alumni connection & much more. Now talking about other colleges i applied to, i also applied to other private colleges around the country apart from from iits, nits, & iiits but still chose to prefer bits because it was the only private college that had the potential to compete with the first generation iits. I got rejected from many first gen iits as i was not that well scored when it comes to their criterion selection, and being from general category, i didn't had the unsaid advantage of getting selected into top iits or iiits as i prefered.

How is BITS Pilani, Goa campus compared to the top IITs?

Sabeer Chalana
Sanjana KapoorBITS(Goa)

BITS Pilani is far better when compared with other top IITs, but of course, the brand value has more demand in the current scenario, and IIT offers more effective placement support than BITS. Here are some points are given below to get more clarity about BITS Pilani, Goa

Funding – IITs are rapidly advancing institutes in India, and they are centrally funded for scientific research and lab equipment. But BITS Pilani is not bad for funding, they have a decent funding system

Start-Ups- Both IITS and BITS are equally good at start-up culture. BITS Pilani is growing and trying to meet with other IITs, which is actually good for the students

Placements – Since IITs are more approachable and attractive to companies, they have a relatively good placement status when compared with BITS. Most of the students are satisfied with the package. BITS, Goa, has a better placement for the CSE branch than other branches

Academics – Both institutes are good at academics, and the departments are rich with renowned scholars.

Hostel – BITS, Goa, offers an incredible campus life to the students. The fee structure is comparatively cheaper and provides good meals for the students.

Why do students at BITS Pilani, Goa lack "technical skills"?

Sabeer Chalana
Akriti Banerjeelives in New Delhi

Firstly, The students from BITS Pilani, Goa, got exposed to club activities in non-technical fields in the first year itself, which played a major role in decreasing their interest in the core subjects and starting to cross over to other nontechnical skills. They only understood their exact passion for the core subject after doing the compulsory branch courses in the third year. And they finally started to build up their technical skills in the last year. This tendency only leads to a lack of experience in the technical field.

Secondly, most of the students here are not actually passionate about their courses because cut-offs decided their careers. This lack of interest decreases productivity.

Thirdly, the students give more importance to the CGPA and have the tendency to mug up every topic without having a deep understanding. Of course, a CGPA is good for higher education. But most of the students end up lacking technical skills in their field due to this tendency.

And there are so many other reasons, including a lack of course projects and electives, an increase in competitive coding culture, and so on.

Which school should I choose, BITS Pilani Goa campus or IIT Gandhinagar?

Vivek KaushikB.Tech Mechanical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar (2018)

There are the following points that you need to keep in mind while choosing between BITS Pilani Goa campus and IIT Gandhinagar:

  • Choose your branch. When making this decision, it is crucial to consider what branch you want to pursue. Talk to people who have done CS or Electrical Engineering and gather information about both fields.
  • Decide between IIT and BITS. BITS has a good alumni network, and its CS package is higher than IIT GN's Electrical Engineering package. However, IIT has a better brand value, especially if you plan to pursue higher education or move to the United States. If you want to go to the USA, choose IIT. If you plan to stay in India, BITS Goa is well recognized, and placements in CS are better at BITS than at IIT GN.
  • Chill out! If you are undecided about your future plans or your choice of college, don't worry too much about it. Choose a place where you can enjoy your B.Tech life. If you want to have fun, BITS Goa is the better option as it is located in Goa.

My son got a 2339 rank in the JEE Advanced and 362 in BITSAT. Which should he choose, IIT Bhubaneswar CSE dual degree or BITS Goa CS?

Veda Burman
Kalyan SahuLives in Bhubaneshwar

Among the two options, IIT Bhubaneswar CSE dual degree and BITS Goa CS, the latter seems to be a more promising option. Let me justify my stance in a better way.

The IIT Bhubaneswar dual degree has many flaws like

  • You will be wasting one year of your education during which you could have done your Masters from a more recognized institute and in the branch you like.
  • Deciding to do MTech in a branch you aren’t sure about is risky and you may end up regretting it later. You might want to do MBA and not MTech after your bachelor's but the dual degree restricts

Financially too IIT Bhubaneswar dual degree is a poor decision. You will waste one year earning nothing and be paying extra fees all the more. BITS Goa CS m is better in almost all aspects like its alumni, start-up culture, placements, and campus facilities. So, I will recommend you choose BITS Goa over IIT Bhubaneswar.

Is BITS Goa overrated as an engineering college?

Nikhil Ranjan
Sreeja PrasadStudied at Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani

First of all, it is not mentioned as BITS Goa, it’s addressed as BPGC, BITS Pilani, or KK Birla Goa campus.

All three campuses of BITS have the same education, same courses, similar leveled faculty team, and the same companies visit the campus to recruit students. Recently, even the placement list is common among the three campuses.

Large scale companies visit the campus for placements including Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Flipkart, LinkedIn, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and many more.

Here is a brief insight into the institute.

Particulars Stats
Total fees (B. Tech) 16 Lakhs
Highest salary 1.4 Crore
Average salary 18.5 Lakhs
Placement percentage 95%

The college is not overrated. The college has been ranked among the top engineering colleges overall in Goa by the NIRF. However, ultimately, it’s you who decides if you are successful or not.

The college helps, agreed, but without your zeal to acquire knowledge, broaden your horizon, and enthusiasm to work, you would not reach heights of success.

Which should I opt for: chemical engineering at IIT Gandhinagar or CSE at BITS Goa?

Debdeep Majumder
Chetna NayyarStudied Mechanical Engineering at BITS Pilani, K. K. Birla Goa Campus (2020)

The preference is always given to BITS Goa as it belongs to the most reputed family of BITS institute. One of my friends has studied there and he loves the campus from all aspects.

The major reasons as to why BITS Goa is to be preferred are:

Scope

  • CSE has more job opportunities in the market as compared to other branches of engineering.
  • If you even go for a core organization in the chemical field; the highest package is not more than 6 LPA.
  • In the case of CSE, if you are into coding a good package can be cracked.
  • The highest package is close to 1.40 crore in BITS Goa. The average also stands at a decent place.
  • The prominent recruiters are - ADM Argo, Adobe, Bajaj Auto, Capgemini, CGI, Cisco, DE Shaw, EXL Services, Razor Pay, Reliance Jio, Freshworks and Goldman Sachs.

Faculty

  • The computer science faculty cannot be compared with chemical engineering.
  • CS faculty is amazing having well-equipped knowledge in the field to deal with real competition. They all are efficient in imparting real practical skill set to their students in a proper manner.

Campus

  • Goa is a place people look out for holidays, and having a college in Goa makes it even more fascinating and attractive.
  • Certain limitations are also imposed on students. You cannot leave the campus before 5 PM and you should return back by 11 PM.

BITS Goa makes it a better option on all fronts whether its faculty, campus, or scope. Having this outlook will help you get to a good institute. The stream can be a point of interest but other factors also matter.

What are my chances of being offered admission in NIT Trichy or BITS Goa (CSE) in the international quota with a subject sat score of 2390?

Ashwini RoyStudied Mechanical Engineering at BITS Pilani Goa campus

BITS Pilani accepts international students who have attempted SAT. To be eligible you will need to appear for the Grade 12 (qualifying) examination, SAT, and SAT subject tests (in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics level 2). 2390 in SAT is a good score and you are likely to get selected for admission.

NIT Trichy will be difficult to get especially for CSE. The required cutoff is quite high for NIT Trichy. However, you can still apply for the program and if you are lucky you may get chosen. Generally, it is difficult because NIT Trichy is considered as one of the best NIT’s and it ranks over many IIT’s. You can also go through Google’s “DASA program in India” for admissions in other branches in different NIT’s.
