What is BITS HD Admission Test 2026?

BITS HD stands for BITS Pilani Higher Degree Admission Test. It is the official entrance test for M.E. (Master of Engineering) and M.Pharm (Master of Pharmacy) programmes at Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani. BITS Pilani is a Deemed-to-be University and was among the first private institutions to receive the Institute of Eminence status from the Government of India in 2020. BITS HD 2026 offers admission through two separate routes. Candidates with a valid GATE or GPAT score from 2024, 2025, or 2026 can apply through the GATE/GPAT route. Candidates without a qualifying GATE/GPAT score can appear for the BITS HD written test and compete through the test route. In every programme, up to 50% of seats are reserved for each route. BITS HD 2026 Eligibility Criteria

You must meet all BITS HD eligibility conditions before applying. The criteria cover your academic qualification, minimum marks, and GATE/GPAT score validity. Check the requirements for your specific programme in the official BITS HD 2026 brochure.

Academic Qualification

Candidates must hold a B.E. / B.Tech / B.Pharm or equivalent degree in a relevant engineering or pharmacy discipline from a recognized university or institution. Final-year students appearing in their qualifying exam in 2026 may also apply, but they must complete their degree before the date of campus reporting (July 30, 2026).

The minimum aggregate marks required in the qualifying degree is 60% (or an equivalent CGPA as per your university’s conversion formula). BITS Pilani does not round off marks — a candidate with 59.9% does not meet the eligibility threshold.

GATE and GPAT Score Validity

For the GATE/GPAT route, you must hold a valid GATE or GPAT score from 2024, 2025, or 2026. GATE scores older than 2024 are not considered. You should apply for the GATE/GPAT route only if your score is from any of these three years.

BITS HD 2026 Application Form

The BITS HD 2026 online application opened on February 18, 2026 and closed on April 25, 2026. The application window is now closed. Candidates who have not yet registered cannot apply for the 2026-27 cycle. The steps below are provided for reference and for those planning to apply in future years.

• Step 1 — Register: Visit the official portal and create a new account using your email ID and mobile number
• Step 2 — Fill Personal and Academic Details: Enter your name, date of birth, qualifying degree details, aggregate marks, branch, and university name
• Step 3 — Add GATE/GPAT Score (if applicable): Enter your GATE or GPAT score, registration number, and year if you are applying through the GATE/GPAT route
• Step 4 — Select Programme and Campus Preferences: Choose your preferred M.E. or M.Pharm programme and indicate your campus preference (Pilani, Goa, or Hyderabad)

BITS HD 2026 Application Fee

The application fee is non-refundable in all cases. Candidates who choose the test route and also have a valid GATE/GPAT score should pay ₹3,600 to enable both merit lists for their application.

Test 1 covers three broad areas: Core Mathematics, English Language, and Logical Reasoning. These topics are the same regardless of which M.E. or M.Pharm programme you apply to.

• Core Mathematics: Calculus (single-variable and multi-variable), Linear Algebra, Ordinary Differential Equations, Probability and Statistics
• English Language: Grammar, Vocabulary, Sentence Correction, Reading Comprehension

BITS HD 2026 Admit Card

The BITS HD 2026 admit card was released on May 21, 2026. Candidates who had registered for the written test could download their hall ticket by logging in at bitsadmission.com with their application number and password. The admit card download was linked to the slot booking process — only candidates who had completed slot booking could access and print their admit card.

• Assigned exam date, reporting time, and exam centre address

Documents Required at the Exam Centre

Candidates had to carry the printed admit card along with an original government-issued photo ID (Aadhaar card, PAN card, Voter ID, or passport). Entry was not allowed without both documents. No electronic devices, notes, or calculators were permitted inside the test centre.

The BITS HD 2026 exam was held across 53 centres in India. Candidates could choose up to three preferred city choices while filling the application form. The exam authority assigned the final centre based on availability and preference order.

BITS HD 2026 Result and Iteration-wise Allotment

BITS HD 2026 seat allotment runs through multiple rounds called iterations. Each iteration releases a fresh batch of admission offers. Candidates who receive an offer must pay the semester fee within the deadline to confirm their seat. If they do not pay or choose to decline, the seat goes to the next candidate in the following iteration.

BITS prepares two separate merit lists for every programme — one ranked by GATE/GPAT score and one ranked by BITS HD test marks. The seats on each list are filled independently across iterations.

• Step 1: Visit bitsadmission.com and go to the HD admissions section
• Step 2: Log in with your registered application number and password
• Step 3: Check your allotment status — if you have received an offer, your allotted programme, campus, and route (GATE/GPAT or test) will be shown
• Step 4: If you want to accept the offer, complete the online semester fee payment before July 6, 2026
• Step 5: Download and save your allotment letter — you will need it for campus reporting on July 30, 2026

BITS HD 2026 Courses Offered

BITS Pilani offers 18+ M.E. specialisations and 4 M.Pharm specialisations across its Pilani, Goa, and Hyderabad campuses for the 2026-27 academic year. Not every programme is available at every campus, and the number of seats also varies by programme and campus. All programmes are two years (four semesters) in duration. Pilani campus generally has the widest programme options and the highest seat intake. The Goa campus focuses on engineering disciplines. BITS HD 2026 Fee Structure and Stipend

BITS HD programmes involve both a significant semester fee and a monthly Teaching Assistantship stipend. You should plan your finances with both in mind before confirming your admission offer.

Fee Structure for 2026-27

For a two-year programme (four semesters), the total semester fee comes to approximately ₹9,26,000, plus the one-time admission fee of ₹50,900. Hostel and other living expenses are in addition to this.

Teaching Assistantship Stipend

All admitted BITS HD students receive a monthly stipend of ₹13,400 per month as a Teaching Assistant (TA). The stipend is available to both GATE/GPAT route and test route candidates and is paid throughout the programme, subject to satisfactory academic performance.

• Programme Duration: All four semesters, approximately 24 months
• Work Requirement: 8-10 hours per week as a Teaching Assistant, helping with laboratory sessions, tutorials, or academic support work
• Total Stipend Over 2 Years: ₹13,400 × 24 months ≈ ₹3,21,600
• GATE/GPAT Route Additional Benefit: Candidates admitted through the GATE/GPAT route may additionally qualify for the AICTE scholarship or PCI scholarship as per government norms, over and above the BITS TA stipend

The monthly stipend partially offsets the semester fee, but you should still plan for the upfront fee payments which are due at the start of each semester. Hostel accommodation is available on all three campuses at reasonable rates.

BITS HD 2026 Preparation Tips

The BITS HD 2026 exam is over. If you plan to appear in a future cycle, these preparation strategies have consistently helped candidates score well in the written test:

• Prioritise Test 2 from day one: Test 2 carries 210 out of 300 marks and is subject-specific. Your domain knowledge here has the biggest impact on your rank. Spend at least 60-70% of your study time on Test 2 topics
• Use GATE study material for Test 2: The BITS HD Test 2 syllabus closely mirrors GATE for most engineering disciplines. Standard GATE reference books and university textbooks for your branch are the most effective preparation resources
• Solve previous GATE papers (last 7 years): Since Test 2 is GATE-level in difficulty, working through previous GATE question papers for your branch — under timed conditions — is the best single preparation activity
• Do not skip Test 1: Test 1 carries 90 marks and covers core mathematics, English, and reasoning. Many candidates underestimate it and score poorly. A strong Test 1 score can push your overall rank meaningfully higher when Test 2 scores are close among candidates
• Practise negative marking discipline: With -1 for each wrong answer, blind guessing hurts your score. Only mark an answer if you are at least 65-70% confident. Leave the rest blank
• Apply for GATE in parallel: If you plan to take the BITS HD test, also appear for GATE in the same year. A good GATE score gives you access to the GATE/GPAT merit list (50% of seats) in addition to the test merit list — effectively doubling your chances of getting an offer
• Target multiple campuses: Many candidates apply only for the Pilani campus and miss good programmes at Goa or Hyderabad that have lower cutoffs. Choose all available campuses for your preferred programme to maximise your chances
• Plan your timeline: GATE happens in February, BITS HD applications open the same month, and the BITS HD exam is in May. You have roughly 3-4 months between GATE and the BITS HD exam to sharpen Test 2 skills and cover Test 1 topics

BITS HD is highly competitive for Computer Science, Embedded Systems, and VLSI at the Pilani campus. For these programmes, a GATE CS score above 650 or a BITS HD test score above 180 out of 300 significantly improves the chance of receiving an offer in the first two iterations.
