Course Curriculum Overview

4

Course curriculum in general is a bit hectic and competetive because of the relative grading system here in goa campus, when comapred to the other sister colleges. But this does not create barrier for the students who prepare from early and excel in every exam they sit for, hence as a senior i also advise to all the incoming stuednts to always maintain and work life balance if they want to get good grades. Talking about my own mechanical course structure, to be honest, it is one of the easiest among all the single degree cousrses whether in terms grading or the course strucure, all thanks to the helpful and supportive faculty members that balance out the marking scheme well and never let the burden come on us. Same might not be true for other branch students here. Meaking scheme might be different but the duration of exams appear the same for all and the difficulty level almost range the same no matter you are a single degree or dual degree student. The only thing that creates difference, in the first year, the dual degree students are required to work harder in compare to single degree students as their bachelors degree is dependant on the CGPA they get after the end of first year.

Internships Opportunities

3

There are numerous internship opportunities offered from the colllege to the students to prepare them for the industry experience beforehand. Rnaging from summer internships to practice school offers which is indeed compulsory for the students to do twice, one after their 2-2 and the next after the completeion of their required courses generally after 3-2 (single degree) or 4-2 (dual degree). While summer internships are selective and are offered to the students who clear the cgpa criteria set by the comapnies and then their respective rounds. Though this should not be the case but the already set system of the campus acn not be changed. Hence the rest students therefore apply for off campus internships based on their skills.

Placement Experience

5

Placement in my college is quiet decent in comapre to other colleges, as there is a dedicated placement unit and training unit separate that is solely controlled by the student body with the student representatives in it, hence making its work more transparent for the general body to have trust on. There are a hefty number of companies that come and offer to the students, like google, microsoft, uber, capegemini, jp morgan, bcg, oracle, flipkart and many more, this is just the start. The pay ranges from 12 lpa to 30+ lpa all together. As of now, in my 3-2, there are only 70-100 students ( 4th year) left for placements, which is quiet impressive in compare to others. As per this placement season the average package range somewhere around 12lpa and the highest package recorded is around 60lpa. I myself am trying to get placed in the field of product management as it fascinates me a lot, and then try for higher studies after getting a decent working experience of the industry.

Fees and Financial Aid

Okay so studying in a private university, there is a fee hike of a minimun 5% every year. As per the last semester, i paid somewhere around Rs. 255000 as my tuition fees, Rs. 27750 as my hostel fee, Rs. 10000 as mess advances, Rs. 12000 as miscelleneous advance for any other deductions where the advances are to be used. For the yearly basis you can double the total and some extra, say the fee hike and the carry forward of the student welfare account of the student, where all of this is stored once when paid and used accordingly. These carry forwards happen only when your SWD account goes negative when the mess advances are totally exhausted or if u paid ur SWD money in buying some sort of fest passes or other stuff in the college. Since this being a private university there is bias in fees structure on the basis of reservation. No extra lab or stationary fee required for books, that you can get from your college seniors. Students admitted every year get a different fee structure, say higher than the previous academic year. Though you can get multiple types of scholarships, merit scholarship, merit-cum need scholarship being the prominent.

Campus Life

5

BITS Goa campus life is one of the best when you go around and have a look at them. As there are multiple advantages with the students here than anywhere else, like no in time for students in hostels, high speed wifi, upto 3AM night canteens, one of the best lab facilities with well equipped instruments, 24x7 library access. When it comes to sports there is corner that is left untouched, every facility that is required for the same is provided beforehand and if not then the required measures are taken at the top priority. Here the teams are made to practice with utmost rigour and that is the result they make us prod at almost all the sports events whether in or out of the campus. Campus also offers a variety of fests like WAVES (the cultural fest), QUARK (the technical fest), SPREE (the sports fest), ZEPHYR (interhostel fest), INTER BITS, where students get to enjoy to the fullest and also get opportunities to work with different clubs and departments of the student body comprising of the organising committees of the fests to understand the working and learn new things for their growth.

Hostel Facilities

5

Bachelors and Masters students are allowed to rent a Pg and live outside of the campus, you are required to take the hostel facility provided by the campus institution. Don't worry about that, they have got everything covered, well furnished rooms with proper ventillation are provided to the students with well defined occupancy to accomodate all the students of all batches. Though the PhDs are allowed to be the day scholars if they want to. There are in total 23 hostels for both boys and girls, bachelors, masters and phd students, with a total of 3 dining halls for students which they can get changed every month as per their convenience and taste.

Admission

My personal preference to join this college as a freshmen was to be among the peer group that wanted innovation and ideas hovering around for my own betterment and a safe future. Also i was only getting the third generation IITs which i didn't prefer even till today to join and advise the same to everyone. I invested in myself. For admission in this college you need to score well in BITSAT or else, you need to be state board topper. Many will think that rejecting third generation iits and taking this might cost me alot later, but prefer investing in myslef which was required, because the new genaration iits or even nits would not have offered me what i am getting today, a healthy and innovative environment, a promising placement, robust alumni connection & much more. Now talking about other colleges i applied to, i also applied to other private colleges around the country apart from from iits, nits, & iiits but still chose to prefer bits because it was the only private college that had the potential to compete with the first generation iits. I got rejected from many first gen iits as i was not that well scored when it comes to their criterion selection, and being from general category, i didn't had the unsaid advantage of getting selected into top iits or iiits as i prefered.

Faculty

4

Faculty here are talented and well learned, some of them might face difficulty in delivering their learnings in the ongoing class but they'll be extremely helpful in their chamber consultation hours if required. Apart from their teaching status, their research fields are also well dominated in the teaching world when comapred to the faculties of top colleges. This edge benefits students of all degrees to pursure for projects on their domain and get a defining star clearly justify their dominance. Talking about the exams, these happen in 3 stages per semester, in the form of quizzes, mid semester and end semester (also called as COMPRE, here). The marking scheme is a bit more competetive here when compared to other sister colleges of bits as here, the grading is very relative and this sometimes creates distress in students when not performed well from the start.

Night Life

4

In campus, there is no in-ti,e for students , whether boys or girls to get back to their hostels. The only restriction they need to follow is return back to campus at 10:30 PM back if went outside. One more disadvantage that many might feel is, you are not allowed to keep any means of transport with you to move around in campus if you are Bachelors or Masters student, PhDs are allowed though. Cafeterias are functional from morning 9 to night 2 AM apart from the night canteens that are operational till 3 in the night. Gym being in constarint are closed at 10PM, as there is only one instructor working as of now.

Placement Experience:

Students can start sitting in placements from the start of 4th year , when the Placement Division starts bringing companies to the campus. The average package for CS is around 20-26 LPA, for Electrical branches it's around 18-24 LPA and for Mechanical and Chemical it is around 13-16 LPA. These figures would've changed though from the last time I saw. Around 85-90% of the students get placed usually. Top notch companies like Google, Microsoft , DE Shaw, Arcesium Cohesity Rubrick recruit students every year for the tech roles and other prominent companies like Flipkart, Sprinkle, Intuiut and Coin Switch come for managerial roles as well. There is even a chance of getting a PPO through Summer Internship Program which kikstarts in the 3rd year where students compete to get internship in these top companies. Overall , BITS Goa has impeccable placement statistics

I have no clue but the highest placements are in Computer and IT branches. Civil has probably the least placement. The quality is good thanks to IIT and NIT being in the same campus thus the big companies that come to those colleges also come to our colleges but they prefer those students more because NIT and IIT are more prestigious colleges.
