Which one is better for CSE, BITS Goa or BITS Hyderabad?

Students and alumni say that BITS Goa is now comparable to Pilani, and not Hyderabad, due to its latest advancements and development. Goa Campus has AI and ML labs coming up and are to be finished before the 2020 freshers get-in. This is a huge step, especially in todays world where AI and ML are like hot cakes and having a good grip on them will help you build a strong profile. Dont get fooled looking at people saying that Hyderabad is better than Goa. It is false, they are people who have joined the Hyderabad campus and are boasting about it. It is very common for such people to do thatsaying their college is the best!Goa is very-well-known for its coding culture and a student from any campus would agree to that. Goa has the highest number of GSoC selections. Students have heard some good professors of CS have moved from Pilani campus to Goa Campus. No one at BITS Goa would spend his entire 4 years at beaches. Academics are very vigorous - it isnt a joke! Just sidelining Goa because it is a tourist place is very ruthless. I am not sexist but I personally know girls who choose Goa over Hyderabad for a better peer group, themselves being from Hyderabad. There are some excellent startups coming out of the Goa Campus like Codedman, Clinify, and Postman(most established one). Those who say Hyderabad CS is better are the ones who get nothing else and keep bragging about themselves.

How are the hostels at BITS Goa?

From 2018 onwards, most people get double sharing rooms for the first year at BITS Goa. Students and alumni say that the hostels are extremely neat, clean, and well maintained. The toilets are almost like those in a decent mall (All western), 10 per floor and 10 bathrooms as well. You get (almost) boiling water throughout the day and night. In some hostels, you would get a double sharing room, a cot, a big almirah with a mirror fitted, table, chair, whiteboard and a few other storage racks. The rooms are quite spacious and even 1012 people can easily hang out in a room. Electricity and internet facilities are good, I wouldn't say great. There have been a lot of power cuts recently. The common room is huge as compared to seniors hostels (old ones), with a TT Table, Carrom, Chess and of course, a TV with cable. There is a lot of space in between the hostels as well.

What are some pros of studying at BITS Goa?

As per our research, students and alumni list the following pros of studying at BITS Goa:No hostel curfew. Roam around the entire campus as much as you want, whenever you want. . Although it does sound really cool, students have to wake up for 8AM classes anyway.The campus is breathtakingly beautiful. It is listed as India's 3rd most beautiful campus after IIT Guwahati and NIT Srinagar. The campus is filled all around with natural beauty, and the lawns are well maintained. They have a cricket and football grounds with natural grass and the view from the 2nd floor of the Student activity center- the cricket ground and right behind it you can get an amazing view of the ocean (precisely bay).The mess food is actually good, unlike other colleges. But one can expect the mess food and the overall infrastructure to be way better, because you would be paying up to INR 2025 lakhs for your entire stay here.The best beaches in Goa are an hour and a half away from the campus.BITS Goa has a TEDX event specific to our campus.

How good are the placements at BITS Goa?

Students and alumni say that BITS Goa placements for CS/IS guys is very good in terms of packages and profiles even though high profile companies like Google, Adobe, Facebook do not come to campus. It does not matter much since in any case, Google or Facebook hire very few people who are exceptionally brilliant. One caution is though that the average which gets published in the newspaper or the one which college puts up is usually the average of the CTC and not of what people get in hand. So don't get super excited to see a company with a CTC of 23.5 LPA and less excited with a company with a CTC of 18.5 LPA. You may never know that the latter company pays you much better in the long run if you just focus on the CTC part. The story is totally opposite for other branches. Most of the students have to settle for IT jobs even if they do not want to due to lack of core companies and core companies always have much much lesser packages than IT companies.

What is an honest review of BITS Goa Placements 2025?

Students report that in 2024, BITS Goa placements for IT are way better than last year. ET remains the same. Core mech and chem companies have had a hit this year. Although the stats have been released officially, they obviously don't include any PPO conversions.

How are the placements for mechanical students at BITS Goa?

Students and alumni say that when it comes to core mech placements, the starting salaries in general are below par barring some reputed MNCs (like SLB and Mercedes Benz). Still, the number of good core companies turning up at BITS Goa is nowhere close to the number in top IITs - the BITS brand has a bit of a way to go in that respect. However, the average package for mech students is good because IT and non-core companies which pay a lot more recruit them (same story as any other core branch here). Most students in mech are not interested in the subject / divert to non-core when they see low packages being paid in core.But if you end up liking mech, there's a much higher chance you'll want to go for a master's degree later on. If so, your trajectory through college will probably be completely different from people aiming for placements. So yes, choose wisely.

Extremely High Fees for a Btech degree charging 30 lakhs is quite costly.
Limited core placement for branches like mechanical , electrical and chemical.

the professors are higly educated, the mess food is decent, the facilities provided are great, most courses dont have attendance
the courses are very nicely designed with great opportunities into research fields of the respective disciplines
the food is pretty decent. even the food outlets on campus operate till late hours during exams and they proviode clean and cheap meals easily.

Dislikes

campus is pretty secluded from everywhere. so travelling anywhere even for small errands is a pretty hectic job.
grading is very bad. The average grades provided are lower than other colleges.

Internships Opportunities:

BITS goa has a practice school station system, where students work in the industry of their interest, 2 times during their college days. PS-1 happens after the 2nd year and PS-2 happens during the final year. other than that, students also avail summer internships at various companies like BCG, Microsoft, Google.

BITS Pilani, Goa Campus- A road to an interesting life.

I liked the modern and beautiful infrastructure, the academic block and the library, of the campus , which provides all the facilities needed for a student.
The student- Faculty interaction is very smooth and friend-like and the exposure to work with them in their research projects is really helpful.
The sports facilities like the badminton court, squash court, tennis court, basketball court and football and cricket grounds are really well maintained and are a joy to play with your friends.

Dislikes

The fee structure is on an expensive side when compared to other colleges but it can be covered through loan provided easily by sbi bank as BITS is a teir-1 college.

Internships Opportunities:

There are 3 internship opportunities provided by college. One is the PS 1 , which happens after second year during the summer break where students may chose to enroll to get an internship to work at. This is solely based on the CG the student has after 2nd year. This adds to their experience. All the companies in all three internships are brought by mainly the PSD, but if a student has ties with any company he is encouraged to connect the company with the PSD. Second is the Summer Internship Programme , where students compete among each other to get an intern at top companies. This is skill based and is totally dependent on the shoulders of the students to bag the internship. Lastly , PS2 , must be taken by students in one of the semesters in 4th year. Students are provided with paid internships at top companies to gain hands on experience.

The hostel infrastructure is competeing with that of the top colleges across the country.
Peer group here is extremely innovative, which indeed give me an opportunity to work more & towards fining more ways to excel and compete.
Research culture here is very robust under the top faculties.

Dislikes

Fee structure is a bit high in compare to even other private colleges in the country.

Internships Opportunities:

There are numerous internship opportunities offered from the colllege to the students to prepare them for the industry experience beforehand. Rnaging from summer internships to practice school offers which is indeed compulsory for the students to do twice, one after their 2-2 and the next after the completeion of their required courses generally after 3-2 (single degree) or 4-2 (dual degree). While summer internships are selective and are offered to the students who clear the cgpa criteria set by the comapnies and then their respective rounds. Though this should not be the case but the already set system of the campus acn not be changed. Hence the rest students therefore apply for off campus internships based on their skills.

ZERO ATTENDANCE POLICY: Student have the flexibilty to appear for exams even with zero attendance to classes which give them the freedom to explore their interest irrespective of the degree
ZERO RESERVATION POLICY: Admissions are given only on merit basis.
COLLEGE INFRASTRUCTURE: lush green campus, well equipped labs

Dislikes

HIGH FEE: almost 30 lakhs for a 4 year degree
No government funding: BITS being a pvt institution recieves no govt funding, which is to be beared by students
highly competitive environment and harsh grading structure

Internships Opportunities:

There are two tyypes of internships the college provides: PS1 after the end of your 2nd year which is unpaid and PS2 in your 4th year which is paid. The PS allotment process is based on your cgpa. Apart from this, you can apply for summer internships in 3rd year, which is merit based and not guaranteed. Its relatively tougher to get an SIP. If you choose not to attend PS1/2, you can choose to do a thesis on/off campus

Bits Goa good or not

Likes

After completing 2 years of hardwork it provides great space to bond and socilaize or just have fun.
3 fests in a year with great artists and 2 interhostel fests keep you entertained.
No reservations means you mix with good crowd.

Dislikes

You spend a lot here upto 7k per month due to richpeoplw around
Goa and drugs go hand in hand and one discovers numerous ways to go beyond.

There is a dept for placements. 70 to 80 percent people get placed woth average package of 20 lakhs per annum. Mostly ot depends on interviews and how good internship you get in 3rd year. Cg plays a very imp role too.

Zero attendance policy across all BITS campuses is great.
Great infrastructure and scenic beauty through the campus.
Great start-up culture and Senior-junior connections.

Dislikes

Lack of Athletics track and field ground.
No vehicles allowed inside the campus (for students). Have to walk for very long to reach classes.
Mess food is sometimes not upto the mark.

Internships Opportunities:

Internships are provided in 2 cycles: PS1 and PS2. Stipends are offered in PS2 only and generally students get a PPO during PS2 (PS stands for Practice School). Many MNCs offer internships with stipends during PS2 and there is a dedicated placement cell for this purpose.

Likes

There is no reservation policy in Bits so you study with peers of same intellect as yours. Very diverse crowd and supportive group of people
In Bits Goa, you have good hostels and basic amenities are provided and maintained as well.

Dislikes

There are some strict rules regarding leaving the campus during class hours so you can't bunk class and go outside the campus
You have to return to the campus before 10:30 night and can leave only after 5:30 evening which gives such a small window to explore Goa.

Internships Opportunities:

There are two internship opportunities provided by the college management. These are part of your curriculum and decided by your grades and company expectations. First one is called PS1 done after your second year for two months during your summer break. PS1 is unpaid (ie you have to pay for that) and compulsory. Second is PS2 which is in your fourth year for 6 months. This is paid (you get paid for that) and if you perform well you may also get permanent placement offer from that company.

Bits goa brief review

Likes

Very good seniors who did not rag anyone they were very helpful and supportive
The student body is very active they fight for our benifits and improve the campus to the best of their abilities
There is no hostel curfew we can roam around the campus whenever we want

Dislikes

Hard and fast moving curriculum very many topics are covered at a high pace
Tough relative grading compared to other bits campuses
Some probl9with dogs in the campus late at night

I don’t believe that all BITS Pilani campuses are equally ranked. They certainly have a few similarities such as the curriculum and policies but apart from that the campuses have many major differences. Here are a few components based on which I have ranked BITS Pilani campuses

Placements: Placement-wise the ranking of BITS campuses is Pilani>Go>Hyderabad. BITS Pilani has the best companies and packages followed by Goa. Hyderabad has a relatively lesser number of companies and the pay is also less.
Practice School: Under this program, students go through a six-month internship in many great companies like Amazon, Apple, Goldman Sachs, Flipkart, Nomura, etc., and there are hundreds of companies to choose from. The only difference in the campuses is that you can make it to the top companies by scoring a 9-pointer at the Pilani campus while a 7-pointer at the Hyderabad campus. This is mainly because Hyderabad students are made to do summer term courses to get a few extra points during the allotment process.
Campus life: The Pilani campus is remotely located and the students love a challenging life here. But all the harshness of the campus makes them grow as a person. Goa and Hyderabad campuses enjoy prime locations and facilities thereby offering a different type of development. However, the Pilani students are more open-minded, flexible, and hardworking than students from other campuses.
Education: Sadly, the quality of education is deteriorating in all the BITS campuses. The faculty pool is pathetic and the mean grade is deflating day by day.

So, research well, talk to alumni of all the campuses, and then make a well-informed decision.
