Prof. Sanjay Kumar Batra is currently working as Professor, Sri Venkateswara College, University of Delhi. His areas of specialization are Nano-materials, Green Chemistry, Molecular spectroscopy, Computational Chemistry and Molecular Immunology, etc. He has a dynamic experience and has been appointed as the Convener of Academic Planning Committee, Sports Committee, Admission Committee and Placement Cell, as a member of admission committee PF Committee, ECA, SVCSS, Governing Body of the College etc. throughout his lifelong career.
What are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?
“Imbibing a good and healthy learning environment”
Being a HOD, I am supposed to look for all administrative works like admissions, time-tables, smooth conduct of classes, assessment and results, etc. for the students so that they have a good learning prospectus. Also, extracurricular activities like organizing seminars, webinars, industrial visits, educational trips etc. and conducting several training sessions are my roles towards the students.

B.Sc. (Honours) Chemistry is the program we offer as per Delhi University norms. It deals with in-depth knowledge of various concepts of chemistry including experiments in nanotechnology, biochemistry, green chemistry, computer applications in chemistry and analytical techniques. Chemistry is the backbone of all scientific research in the areas like medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutical, nanotechnology, paints, cement, pigments and food technology etc.
What best practices do you offer which help students gain necessary skills?
“Provisions for practical and research work”
Students are exposed to hands-on experience in practical classes for various techniques used in the course line. We have specialized labs and training centres for the experimentation purpose. Interested students also do research work under supervision of able faculties. We also conduct various seminars and workshops to let students acknowledge the latest trends in the industry.

How does the program ensure that students are being prepared for the future?
“Opportunities for research and publications globally”
We provide research exposure under experienced faculty to the students. Also, we work in collaboration with many government agencies like DST, CSIR, DRDO etc. for many projects and research. Students are able to publish research articles in international journals of high repute. This is unique and helps students to get scholarships in highly ranked and prestigious foreign universities for higher studies.
What are the types of projects that students are working on through this program?
“Research and Development projects primarily”
We have worked on innovation projects earlier in interdisciplinary research areas like synthesis of nanoparticles and their anti-bacterial and antiplasmodial properties. We are also working on various applications of nano materials including water purification, cancer research, and drug delivery etc.

What valuable advice would you like to give to the students?
“Aim high and put all your efforts to achieve them”
I would suggest the students to think and dream big, especially regarding their studies. There is nothing in this world that cannot be achieved, and learning has no expiry date. Learn and put all your sincere efforts to reach your goals.
