  • The chemistry section was tougher than last year, with difficult organic and physical chemistry and moderate inorganic chemistry. The cutoff is expected to be 115-120.
  • The Biology section was easy with a few moderate questions, so the cutoff is expected to be 330-340.
  • The overall NEET cutoff for 2026 is expected to be 555-570 as per the Reddit Discussion.

  • The physics was difficult, but candidates are prepared this time to face tough questions, unlike in 2025. However, the physics questions this year were new and unique.
  • Chemistry was trickier than in 2025 and moderate.

So the crux of the discussion is that the cutoff will go around 20-25 marks higher than in 2025.

  • Difficulty Level of Examination: A tougher paper generally leads to lower cutoffs, whereas an easier paper results in higher cutoffs.
  • Number of Candidates Appearing: More candidates increase competition and push the cutoff higher.
  • Overall Performance: If a larger number of students score high marks, the cutoff rises accordingly.
  • Availability of Seats: An increase in seat intake may slightly lower admission cutoffs.
  • Reservation Policies: Different reservation categories have separate cutoffs, affecting category-wise admissions.
  • Counselling Rounds: Cutoffs vary based on the counselling rounds, i.e. Round 1, Round 2, Mop-Up Round, and Stray Vacancy Round.

FAQs

Ques. Will the Re-NEET 2026 cutoff be lower than the original expected cutoff?

Ans. Many experts believe that the Re-NEET 2026 paper was moderately difficult, especially the Physics section, which may result in slightly lower cutoffs.

  • A tougher paper generally leads to lower qualifying marks because fewer students score very high.
  • However, the official cutoff depends on overall performance and score distribution.
  • Any reduction is expected to be marginal rather than drastic due to high competition in the exam.

Ques. What is the safe score for MBBS 2026?

Ans. For NEET 2026, a safe score for MBBS admission will vary by category, but aiming above the expected cutoff provides a better admission probability.

  • As per the experts, candidates scoring 600+ marks remain in a relatively safer position for many government colleges.

NEET 2026 safe score for government MBBS colleges

Category Safe Score
General 620–650+
EWS 610–640+
OBC 590–620+
SC 500–550+
ST 450–500+

Ques. Can I get MBBS with 400 marks in NEET?

Ans. Yes, you can get an MBBS seat with 400 marks in NEET, but the chances depend on your category, domicile state, and the type of medical college. A score of 400 marks out of 720 is expected to place you in the AIR between 1.8 lakh and 2.5 lakh.

Candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/EWS categories or states with relatively lower closing cutoffs may have a chance in colleges such as:

  • Zoram Medical College, Mizoram
  • Nagaland Institute of Medical Sciences
  • Gajra Raja Medical College, Gwalior (Reserved Category)
  • Pt. JLN Medical College, Raipur (Reserved Category)

Government MBBS admission at 400 marks is generally difficult for General category candidates, but may be possible under state quota and reservation policies.

Ques. What does 720 137 mean in NEET?

Ans. A score of 720 137 means a candidate secured 720 marks and an AIR of 137, primarily due to tie-breaking rules.

  • In previous years, several students have scored a perfect 720/720 due to the increasing competition and improved preparation levels.

The NTA applies tie-breaking rules based on:

  • Higher marks in Biology
  • Higher marks in Chemistry
  • Fewer incorrect answers
  • Other prescribed criteria

As a result, a candidate scoring 720 may receive Rank 1, Rank 50, or even Rank 137 depending on these factors.

Year Approximate Number of 720 Scorers
2022 1
2023 2
2024 60+ (after revisions and tie cases)
2025 Increased competition continued

Ques. Can I get AIIMS with 580 marks?

Ans. A 580 score in NEET provides you with an AIR of around 45,000–60,000. A score of 580 is competitive but generally falls short for the General category AIIMS admissions.

However, candidates in reserved categories may still have a realistic chance during All India Counselling based on the final cutoff and seat matrix.

NEET Score Expected AIR
600 28,000–35,000
590 35,000–45,000
580 45,000–60,000
570 55,000–70,000
560 65,000–80,000

Ques. Is 470 a good NEET score?

Ans. Yes, a score of 470 is considered above average, which will place you in the AIR of around 1.1-1.6 lakh, as expected in NEET 2026.

It can open doors to BDS and AYUSH courses, while Government MBBS admission is more realistic for reserved-category candidates than for General-category aspirants.

Ques. Will AIIMS Delhi cutoff also decrease in Re-NEET 2026?

Ans. AIIMS Delhi usually has the highest closing ranks in India. However, a tougher paper may reduce the required marks slightly. The Competition for top AIIMS campuses remains extremely high.

  • General category candidates generally require exceptional scores and even if the marks decrease, the rank requirements will remain highly competitive
