JEE Main Result Previous Year Statistics

JEE Main has long been one of India's most competitive engineering entrance exams, with registrations consistently in the 13–14 lakh range. Looking at the previous five years helps you understand the score-to-rank pattern and how the qualifying cutoff has moved.

Year Unique Registered Candidates 100 Percentilers Qualified for JEE Advanced Session 2 Result Date
2026 16,04,854 26 2,50,182 April 20, 2026
2025 ~15,40,000 24 2,50,000 April 19, 2025
2024 ~14,15,000 56 2,50,000 April 25, 2024
2023 ~11,62,000 43 2,50,000 April 28, 2023
2022 ~10,26,000 24 2,50,000 August 7, 2022

The General category qualifying cutoff has also climbed steadily, with 2026 hitting the highest level in three years. This is the percentile you must cross to be eligible for JEE Advanced.

Year General Category Cutoff (Percentile)
2026 93.4123549
2025 93.1023262
2024 93.2362181
2023 90.7788642

Two clear patterns come through. First, the candidate pool has crossed 16 lakh for the first time, but the top-2.5 lakh cap for JEE Advanced eligibility stays fixed — so the competition for the top is tighter every year. Second, the 100 percentile count of 26 in 2026 is up from 24 in 2025, suggesting the strongest students performed even better than last year, even as the paper got marginally tougher.

JEE Main Result 2026: How to Download?

You can download your JEE Main 2026 scorecard from the official website, jeemain.nta.nic.in. The login credentials are your application number, date of birth, and password. There is no option to check the result by name — you must use credentials. Follow the steps below.

  1. Visit the official website at jeemain.nta.nic.in.
  2. Click on the "Score Card for JEE (Main) 2026 — Session 2" link on the home page (or "Session 1" if you want that result).
  3. Enter your application number, date of birth, and password / security PIN.
  4. Click on "Submit" — your JEE Main 2026 scorecard opens.
  5. Verify all the details, especially your name, category, AIR, and JEE Advanced eligibility status.
  6. Download the PDF and take two printouts for the JoSAA counselling rounds.

If the website is slow on result day, do not panic. Result-day traffic is heavy in the first few hours. Switch browsers, clear cookies, or try late at night when the load drops. Avoid third-party result checkers — only the official NTA portal gives the verified scorecard.

Ques. How long can I download my JEE Main scorecard after the result is declared?

Ans. NTA keeps the JEE Main 2026 scorecard available for download until July 31, 2026. After that, you may have to request a duplicate copy through the NTA helpline, and some fees may apply. The simplest fix is to download and save your scorecard within the active window.

Ques. What if I forgot my JEE Main application number or password?

Ans. Use the "Forgot Application Number" or "Forgot Password" link on the login page. NTA will send a reset link to your registered email and mobile. If those are also lost, contact the NTA helpdesk with proof of identity.

JEE Main Result 2026: Scorecard and Merit List

The JEE Main 2026 scorecard is the single most important document you will carry into JoSAA counselling. Check every field carefully the moment you download it.

  • Subject-wise percentile (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics)
  • Overall NTA Score (percentile)
  • All India Rank (AIR)
  • Category rank
  • JEE Advanced 2026 eligibility status
  • Personal details — name, category, roll number, date of birth

Merit List

The JEE Main 2026 merit list is prepared by NTA using the best NTA Score across the two sessions. If you appeared in both Session 1 and Session 2, the higher NTA score of the two is used for your final AIR. If you appeared in only one session, that session's score is used.

  • All India Rank (AIR): Used as the master ranking for JoSAA counselling to NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs.
  • Category-wise lists: Separate rank lists are released for General, OBC-NCL, Gen-EWS, SC, ST, and PwBD categories.
  • State-wise and gender-wise toppers: NTA also publishes state-wise topper lists and a separate female toppers list with the final result.

Ques. What if there is a discrepancy in my result details (name, category, etc.) after declaration?

Ans. Contact the NTA helpline immediately with valid proof. Minor errors can sometimes be corrected for the counselling process. However, core areas such as scores and categories will not be changed under any circumstances.

Ques. Will I get a separate hard copy of the JEE Main scorecard by post?

Ans. No. NTA does not send the JEE Main scorecard by post or email. The downloadable PDF from the official website is the only valid scorecard. Take a printout and keep it safe for JoSAA counselling.

JEE Main Result 2026: Tie-Breaking Criteria

If two or more candidates obtain the same NTA Score in JEE Main 2026, NTA uses a tie-breaking policy to assign the rank. Note that age and application number are no longer tie-breakers from 2026 onwards. The order is fixed below — the first rule that breaks the tie decides the higher rank.

  • Higher NTA Score (percentile) in Mathematics, followed by
  • Higher NTA Score (percentile) in Physics, followed by
  • Higher NTA Score (percentile) in Chemistry, followed by
  • Lower ratio of wrong to correct answers across the whole paper, followed by
  • Lower ratio of wrong to correct answers in Mathematics, followed by
  • Lower ratio of wrong to correct answers in Physics, followed by
  • Lower ratio of wrong to correct answers in Chemistry.

If the tie is still not resolved after all the above, both candidates receive the same rank.

JEE Main 2026 Cutoff for JEE Advanced

The JEE Main 2026 cutoff is the minimum percentile a candidate must secure to be eligible for JEE Advanced 2026. NTA released the official category-wise cutoff along with the Session 2 result on April 20, 2026. This is the qualifying cutoff — and it is different from the admission cutoff used later in JoSAA counselling for NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs.

Category JEE Main 2026 Cutoff (Percentile)
Common Rank List (CRL / General) 93.4123549
EWS 80.7301229
OBC-NCL 79.4313515
SC 63.9148084
ST 52.0140435
PwBD 0.0018700

Source: NTA JEE Main 2026 Official Result Notice

Two things stand out. First, the General cutoff at 93.4123549 percentile is the highest in three years — and it is markedly tighter than 2023's 90.77, reflecting how the candidate pool has grown. Second, the SC cutoff has jumped sharply too, sitting at 63.91 percentile for 2026.

Qualifying cutoff vs admission cutoff: Crossing the JEE Main 2026 qualifying cutoff makes you eligible for JEE Advanced — it does not guarantee a seat at an NIT or IIIT. Seat allotment in JoSAA depends on your All India Rank and the branch-wise and category-wise opening and closing ranks for each institute, which are published during counselling rounds.

Ques. Does clearing the JEE Main 2026 cutoff guarantee admission to NITs?

Ans. No. The qualifying cutoff only makes you eligible for JEE Advanced 2026 and JoSAA counselling. Admission to specific NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs depends on your All India Rank and the JoSAA opening and closing ranks for that particular institute, branch, and category.

Ques. If I qualify the cutoff but my rank is around 80,000, can I still get a good NIT?

Ans. At an AIR of around 80,000, top NITs like NIT Trichy, Surathkal, or Warangal are unlikely in CSE. However, mid-tier NITs and newer IIITs may still be possible in less competitive branches. Use JoSAA's previous-year closing ranks to plan your choice filling realistically.

JEE Main 2026: Marks Vs Rank

One of the most-searched queries after the result is "what AIR will I get with X marks". NTA does not publish an official marks-vs-rank table, but the relationship is fairly stable. The table below gives an indicative rank band for different percentile scores in JEE Main 2026. Use it to set realistic JoSAA expectations.

NTA Score (Percentile) Expected AIR Band Realistic Tier
99.5 – 100 1 – 7,000 JEE Advanced eligible, top NITs (CSE)
99 – 99.5 7,000 – 14,000 Top NITs (CSE/IT), top IIITs
98 – 99 14,000 – 28,000 Mid-tier NITs (CSE), top NITs (non-CSE)
95 – 98 28,000 – 70,000 Lower NITs, mid-tier IIITs, top GFTIs
93.4 – 95 70,000 – 1,00,000 JEE Advanced eligible (General); newer IIITs and state engineering
85 – 93 1,00,000 – 2,30,000 State engineering colleges, private universities
75 – 85 2,30,000 – 4,00,000 Tier-2 private engineering colleges
Below 75 4,00,000+ State quota and entrance-based private admissions

Treat these as broad estimates. Your actual rank depends on the score distribution in your shifts, the normalisation across both sessions, and your category. For JoSAA planning, always cross-check against the previous year's closing ranks for your target institute and branch.

JEE Main 2026 Toppers

NTA has released the combined JEE Main 2026 toppers list along with the Session 2 result. A total of 26 candidates scored a perfect 100 NTA percentile, with Kabeer Chhillar from Rajasthan emerging as the AIR 1 topper. All 26 toppers are male. Andhra Pradesh and Telangana led with 5 toppers each, followed by Rajasthan with 4.

Suryathejus S from Kerala topped the JEE Main 2026 Paper 2A (B.Arch) with a perfect 100 percentile. Gowri Sankar V from Kerala topped Paper 2B (B.Plan) with a perfect 100 percentile.

Ques. Why are there 26 candidates with 100 percentile but only one AIR 1?

Ans. A 100 percentile means you scored higher than (or equal to) 99.9999...% of all candidates in your session's normalisation. Multiple candidates can share this percentile. The final AIR 1 is decided using the tie-breaking rules — higher percentile in Mathematics first, then Physics, then Chemistry, and so on.

Ques. Did any female candidate score 100 percentile in JEE Main 2026?

Ans. No. No female candidate scored a perfect 100 percentile in JEE Main 2026. The highest-scoring female candidate is Mallavarapu Aasna from Telangana with a 99.9982287 percentile.

JEE Main 2026: What After Result?

Once the JEE Main 2026 result is declared, the next steps depend on whether you qualified for JEE Advanced and where your AIR sits. The biggest event ahead is JoSAA counselling 2026, expected to begin from June 2, 2026, which handles seat allotment to IITs, NITs, IIITs, and other GFTIs.

Step 1 — JEE Advanced 2026: If you are in the top 2,50,182 and have crossed your category cutoff, register for JEE Advanced 2026 on jeeadv.ac.in. The exam is scheduled for May 17, 2026. Clearing JEE Advanced is mandatory for IIT admission.

Step 2 — JoSAA Counselling: Independent of whether you wrote JEE Advanced, your JEE Main rank is used by JoSAA for NIT, IIIT, IIEST, and GFTI seats. The process runs in six rounds. The structure is given below.

  • Registration: Sign up on the JoSAA portal with your JEE Main credentials and pay the registration fee.
  • Choice Filling and Locking: Pick branch and institute combinations in order of priority. There is no limit on how many choices you can fill, but lock them before the deadline.
  • Seat Allotment: JoSAA runs the allotment algorithm based on your rank, choices, category, and seat availability.
  • Acceptance and Reporting: Pay the seat acceptance fee and report to the allotted institute or a reporting centre with original documents.
  • Branch Upgrades: Subsequent rounds may upgrade you to a better branch if seats open up because of withdrawals.

Documents you must keep ready for JoSAA counselling 2026:

  • JEE Main 2026 scorecard and admit card
  • JEE Advanced 2026 admit card and scorecard (if applicable, for IIT seats)
  • Class 10 and Class 12 mark sheets and passing certificates
  • Category certificate (OBC-NCL / EWS / SC / ST / PwBD), if applicable
  • Photo ID proof (Aadhaar / Passport / Voter ID)
  • Two passport-size photographs
  • Seat acceptance fee payment receipt (paid online during counselling)

If your rank is below the JoSAA threshold for the institutes you want, do not panic — state engineering counselling and private university admissions still accept JEE Main scores. Many state CETs and deemed universities give weightage to JEE Main marks for engineering admission.
