NEET Attempts 2026 refers to the number of times you can appear for the test. You can plan to appear for NEET 2026 and fill the online application forms if you are above 17 years or will complete the same by December 31, 2025. Also, there is no limit on NEET attempts i.e., you can appear any number of times for NEET exam.

For the age limit, an information brochure has been released by NTA mentioning that there is no upper age limit criteria to appear for NEET UG exam. The information brochure is available on official website, exams.nta.ac.in

According to previous year statistics, in 2017, conducting authorities declared three attempts for NEET UG. Later, the number of attempts criterion was removed from the eligibility. Check NEET 2026 Eligibility. Based on the category filled during the time of registration process, candidates will become eligible for the reservation criteria.

While filling NEET 2026 Application Form, it is advisable to provide accurate details regarding age, gender, category, and education to avoid cancellation of application.

The sequence of events on NEET Attempts and regulation since 2017:

Year NEET Attempts Details
2018 – 2026 No Limit This policy was implemented in 2018, removing the previous attempt caps to provide students with more opportunities to improve their scores and gain admission to medical courses.
2017 3 In 2017 NEET exam, CBSE had introduced the maximum attempts limit number, the utmost attempts limit was set to 3 times. Cap on Age Limit had also been introduced according to which only UR candidates below 25 age & reserved candidates below 30 age were allowed to appear for NEET.
2018 No Limit The cap on NEET UG number of attempts were removed. But NEET attempt limit was then decided to be determined by the upper age limit criterion.
2019 No Limit NIOS/Open school students were considered ineligible to appear for NEET. However, the clause was revoked within that year.
2020 No Limit The exam was conducted successfully without any limits on NEET attempts.
2021 No Limit NEET 2021 was conducted in September without any age limit criteria.
2022, 2023 & 2026 No Limit As per official notifications, no limits to the number of attempts for NEET 2022 and NEET 2023 were announced.
2026 No Limit There is currently no limit on the number of attempts of NEET.
