To help you plan better, here’s a year-wise overview of KCET exam dates and important events from 2025 to 2023, so you can get a clear idea of the usual schedule.

Year KCET Exam Date(s)
2025 April 16 & 17 (Kannada language test on April 15)
2024 April 18 & 19 (Kannada test on April 20)
2023 May 20 & 21 (Kannada language exam on May 22)

Ques: How to find these changes in the dates of the KCET exam each year?

Ans. The KCET exam timetable will be based on the school timetable and state board examination tests and exams conducted nationally, such as the JEE or NEET. KEA makes sure that it does not clash and manipulates schedules. That is why KCET is traditionally conducted in July or August, but nowadays it is arranged mainly in April or May.

Ques: When will the KCET results be announced?

Ans. The KCET results are normally announced one month following the exam. For example, the April 2025 exam declared results in May, whereas older years with later exams showed results in later months. The candidates should anticipate the results of the KCET 2026 to come in May or June, depending on the KEA schedule.

KCET Registration Fees (2020-2025 Trends)

  • The fee for the KCET registration has been revised; the registration fees for the General category have been revised from 650 INR in 2020 to 800 INR in 2025, and the fee for non-Karnataka candidates has been revised from 750 INR to 900 INR in order to accommodate the higher level of processing.
  • Whereas fees for SC/ST/OBC categories remained the same at 500 INR during all those years.
  • Increased fee reflects the surging costs of carrying on offline tests, holding on to digital infrastructure, and executing government decisions.
Year General Category (Fees in INR) SC/ST/OBC(Fees in INR) Outside Karnataka(Fees in INR)
2020 650 500 750
2021 650 500 750
2022 700 500 800
2023 750 500 800
2024 750 500 800
2025 800 500 900

Ques: What are the differences between the registration fees of the categories at KCET?

Ans. The cost of registering at KCET is quite varied so that every candidate can afford it. To enhance inclusivity in higher education, reserved category students like SC, ST and OBC pay reduced fees of 500 INR as compared to 800 INR. Both policy-based and administrative factors of the KEA influence the fees paid by general and outside Karnataka candidates.

Ques: Can KCET fees be refunded in case of withdrawal of a candidate?

Ans. Registration fees at KCET are mostly not refundable, whether a candidate is present to take the exam or not. Over the years, KEA has upheld the policy in order to make the application process smooth. As such, only after a candidate is sure of appearing during the exam should they complete their registration to prevent losing money with no benefits.

How many Candidates have registered for KCET? (2025–2023)

According to the data, KCET registrations have increased by 8.3% from 2024 to 2025 and by around 18% compared to 2023. This increase in the number of registrations is because of growing interest in engineering and professional courses in Karnataka.

Year Number of Candidates Registered
2025 2.6 lakh
2024 2.4 lakh
2023 2.2 lakh

Ques. What is the increasing trend of applicants in KCET every year?

Ans. The demand to study engineering, pharmacy, veterinary and agricultural programs in Karnataka has been the primary cause of increased KCET applicants. Students are more inclined to attend KCET due to the state quota advantage and the low cost of education than the private universities. Increasing college intake and government policies also contribute to increasing registrations.

Ques: Does increased registration make KCET more competitive?

Ans. Yes, increasing registrations means tougher competition since the number of aspirants rises faster than the available seats. With over 2.6 lakh candidates expected in 2025, securing top ranks becomes challenging. Students must prepare strategically, as higher participation directly influences cutoffs, seat allocation, and admission chances in top Karnataka colleges.

KCET Reappearance Trends (2020-2025)

The table indicates that there is a consistent growth of the recurring candidates in the years 2020 to 2025. Up by 18% in 2020 to 26% in 2025, making a 44% growth over the years. This is an indication that the number of students who are reappearing for KCET wants to improve their scores and ranks, to get good college.

Year Approx. % of Reappearing Candidates
2025 26%
2024 25%
2023 23%
2022 22%
2021 20%
2020 18%

Ques: How come there is a reappearance of many students in KCET?

Ans. Students re-attend the KCET to get higher rankings and secure a place in a better college or department, such as Computer Science and Electronics. As there is no age restriction at KCET, most applicants resort to a second attempt to better prepare and maximise the opportunities of the leading professional institutions.

Ques: Is reappearing an indicator of better chances of admission in KCET?

Ans. Yes, redoing can also give them a much better chance of admission, provided the candidates are better prepared and score higher compared to the previous time. Between 50 and 75 per cent of students in reattempt seem to improve their noticeable rank. Nonetheless, they have to be studied regularly, the mistakes of the past should be learned, and mock examinations should be practised because each year the competition increases with the number of candidates.

KCET Overview 2026 FAQs

Ques. Is KCET tougher than CUET?

Ans. KCET is specialised in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology, making it competitive to engineering and medical aspirants in Karnataka. CUET, on the other hand, is multisubject and serves central universities. KCET is more difficult in the case of engineering admissions because it focuses on problem-solving abilities and the mastery of the subject matter.

Ques. What is the number of times KCET is done every year?

Ans. The Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) is the organiser of KCET, held once a year. As compared to JEE Main, which also has two sessions per year, KCET has one attempt. This is one chance that candidates must study well since the exam is used to decide who will take professional courses in colleges in Karnataka during that particular academic year.

Ques. Is it possible to use KCET scores beyond Karnataka?

Ans. KCET is used only to make admissions in professional colleges in Karnataka. Out-of-state students are eligible to apply as long as they fulfil domicile requirements. In contrast to other exams like JEE Main, KCET does not offer national recognition and is therefore region-specific to Karnataka-based universities and state-authorised professional institutions.

Ques. What is the exam language of KCET?

Ans. KCET is conducted in English and Kannada languages, with a choice given to the candidates on their preferred medium. Those students who feel at ease with the Kannada language enjoy the advantage of regional language assistance, whereas other students can choose English. Such a bilingual solution will be fair and accessible to all students who will be appearing in the Karnataka state entrance exam.

Ques. What age limit does KCET 2026 have?

Ans. No maximum age requirement exists to feature in KCET 2026. Nevertheless, the candidates should meet the educational requirements of eligibility, like passing Class 12 with subject groupings. There can be minimum age requirements for professional courses, such as veterinary science; however, in most cases, age is not a major problem for KCET aspirants.

Ques. Is the Kannada language test mandatory?

Ans. Yes, if you are a Horanadu and Gadinadu Kannadiga candidate. If you have studied Kannada for 7 years, you are exempt from the test.
