NCERT vs Reference Books for NEET 2026 Syllabus

Preparing for NEET 2026 requires the right strategy, right guidance, and right resources. Using NCERT and reference books as resources can be helpful only when both resources are balanced. NCERT could be beneficial in developing the fundamentals; however, reference books are best for detailed explanations and higher concepts.

NCERT books lack detailed explanations and advanced concepts; however, most of the NEET questions are directly asked from the NCERT books. Reference books cover advanced concepts, but include too much information, consuming too much time during preparation.

NCERT uses simple and direct language to help you understand concepts. Whereas reference books use complicated language while defining the concepts.

People asked on Quora: What should be the best material for neet 2026 after observing the difficulty level of neet 2025?

Disha Saini Responded: NCERT is best for all the three subjects. Difficult questions of Physics in NEET 2025 were mostly modified NCERT back exercises. For Physics no need to go into NCERT theory but solve all the back exercises. You can use NCERT exemplar for thorough preparation. Solve JEE mains pyq's as well.

Moleen Raut Answered: I used to attend all classes sincerely. After classes, I used to thoroughly read that topic, solve questions and do homework. This was my daily routine. Then, before tests I used revise specific topics. Then for test series, I used to make my daily, weekly and even monthly schedule of revisions depending on dates. My revision stategy was truely depend on subjects. But discussing here is irrelevant.

The books I used are:

  • Physics- Errorless vol 1 and 2: Although I also solved D.C. Pandey and C.P. Singh, since my scores in physics were low. But still I prefer to use Errorless till and do not use another.
  • Organic Chemistry— Himanshu Sharma: But I will recommend to solve M S Chauhan( I solved some chapters from it)
  • Physical Chemistry— N. Awasthi is best book for physical chemistry. I have solved every question from it except excluded chapters and solutions.
  • Inorganic Chemistry I stuck to only NCERT.
  • Biology— MTG Fingertips and questions from neetprep
