NCERT vs Reference Books for NEET 2026 Syllabus

Preparing for NEET 2026 requires the right strategy, right guidance, and right resources. Using NCERT and reference books as resources can be helpful only when both resources are balanced. NCERT could be beneficial in developing the fundamentals; however, reference books are best for detailed explanations and higher concepts.

NCERT books lack detailed explanations and advanced concepts; however, most of the NEET questions are directly asked from the NCERT books. Reference books cover advanced concepts, but include too much information, consuming too much time during preparation.

NCERT uses simple and direct language to help you understand concepts. Whereas reference books use complicated language while defining the concepts.

People asked on Quora: What should be the best material for neet 2026 after observing the difficulty level of neet 2025?

Disha Saini Responded: NCERT is best for all the three subjects. Difficult questions of Physics in NEET 2025 were mostly modified NCERT back exercises. For Physics no need to go into NCERT theory but solve all the back exercises. You can use NCERT exemplar for thorough preparation. Solve JEE mains pyq's as well.

Moleen Raut Answered: I used to attend all classes sincerely. After classes, I used to thoroughly read that topic, solve questions and do homework. This was my daily routine. Then, before tests I used revise specific topics. Then for test series, I used to make my daily, weekly and even monthly schedule of revisions depending on dates. My revision stategy was truely depend on subjects. But discussing here is irrelevant.

The books I used are:

  • Physics- Errorless vol 1 and 2: Although I also solved D.C. Pandey and C.P. Singh, since my scores in physics were low. But still I prefer to use Errorless till and do not use another.
  • Organic Chemistry— Himanshu Sharma: But I will recommend to solve M S Chauhan( I solved some chapters from it)
  • Physical Chemistry— N. Awasthi is best book for physical chemistry. I have solved every question from it except excluded chapters and solutions.
  • Inorganic Chemistry I stuck to only NCERT.
  • Biology— MTG Fingertips and questions from neetprep

How You Can Score 650+ in 6 Months in NEET 2026?

With less than 6 months remaining for NEET 2026 examination, you must pace up your preparation to qualify for the examination. NEET preparation strategy could be different for candidates studying in class 12th, droppers, and those starting from scratch.

Class 12th Students

Candidates in class 12th must focus on the NEET class 12 syllabus for now and are advised to try to complete the NEET syllabus 2026 by November ending or by the first week of December 2025. Students must prepare each chapter in depth so that it does not require effort to prepare again.

Starting chapters must be revised at the earliest to avoid the last-minute burden of revision. In December, January, and February, aspirants must cover the NEET 2026 class 11th syllabus. Follow the notes prepared earlier and maintain fixed resources for preparation. Students can use a combination of two resources, like Class notes and PYQs, or any Module+NEET PYQs.

If the syllabus is completed by February 2026, students can use the remaining time for board exams. And along with that, students must attempt full syllabus mock tests. In March and April, students are advised to revise the class 11th and 12th syllabus and attempt tests with a 1 or 2-day gap. In April 2026, attempt at least 1 test every day, and you will be fully prepared to score 650+ in NEET 2026.

Droppers

For droppers, the target to complete the NEET 2026 syllabus must end ending February. Most of the chapters in NEET 2026 require just a revision, as droppers would have studied those chapters before. Droppers are advised to practice more and more questions and revise using previously prepared notes. Do not spend too much time watching lectures.

For Biology, students are advised to read the Biology chapters more frequently. In the last month, students must be able to read at least 4 chapters in the NEET Biology NCERT. For Physics and Chemistry, students should follow class notes and NEET PYQs for preparation.

From March, students should attempt NEET mock tests with a 1-2 day gap. And in the last month of NEET preparation, students must be able to attempt at least 1 test every day. This will boost test preparation and increase confidence and speed of attempting the examination.

Freshers

For students starting from scratch, it is difficult to score 650+ in 6 months. Such candidates are advised to not join any full length course. Instead, you can prepare using any crash course covering syllabus in 3-4 months.

Freshers are advised to prepare a schedule that can help them cover lectures as well as practice questions and PYQs. After each lecture, try to solve 150-200 questions and move to next lecture. After completing each chapter in Physics and Chemistry, students must solve PYQs of that particular chapter. In Biology, students must try to complete 1-2 chapters.
