KEAM 2026 (Kerala Engineering Architecture Medical Entrance Examination) is conducted by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE), Kerala for admission to B.Tech, B.Arch, and B.Pharm courses across more than 200 colleges in Kerala. The KEAM 2026 rank list has been released today, June 20, 2026, on the official website cee.kerala.gov.in — a key milestone for all 1,48,146 candidates who registered this year. With the rank list now out, the next major step is the Centralised Allotment Process (CAP), expected to begin in the last week of June 2026.

  • CAP Option Registration: KEAM 2026 CAP option registration is expected to open in the last week of June 2026. In 2025, option entry ran from July 8 to July 16 — expect a similar 8–10 day window this year. Candidates must register and pay the option entry fee online before the deadline.
  • Trial Allotment: CEE Kerala publishes a trial allotment before the official Round 1 so you can review your tentative seat and revise your college preferences. In 2025, the trial allotment was published on July 17 — expect it around the second week of July 2026.
  • First Round Seat Allotment: CAP Round 1 seat allotment is expected in the third week of July 2026. In 2025, Round 1 results were declared on July 22 — candidates who get a seat must pay the allotment fee and report to their college within 2–3 days or the seat is forfeited.
  • KEAM 2026 Cutoff Trends: With 1,48,146 candidates registered in 2026 — up from 1,43,866 in 2025 — competition is slightly higher. In 2025, CET Trivandrum CSE closed at rank 571 for General category in Round 3. Expect cutoffs to tighten marginally in 2026; candidates targeting top government colleges should aim for an index score above 540 out of 600.

What is KEAM 2026?

KEAM stands for Kerala Engineering Architecture Medical Entrance Examination. It is the state-level entrance test conducted every year by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE), Kerala. KEAM 2026 determines admission to B.Tech, B.Arch, and B.Pharm courses offered by government, government-aided, and private self-financing colleges in Kerala.

The exam is among the most competitive state engineering entrance tests in India. More than 1.48 lakh candidates registered for KEAM 2026, competing for seats across more than 200 engineering colleges in Kerala. This makes it one of the largest state-level engineering entrance exams in south India.

From 2026, KEAM introduced a significant change — the exam moved to Computer Based Test (CBT) mode from the earlier pen-and-paper OMR format. The Engineering paper now consists of 150 questions for 600 marks in a single 3-hour session, compared to the earlier two-paper pattern.

How the KEAM 2026 Engineering Rank Is Calculated

Your KEAM Engineering rank is based on a combined index score out of 600. CEE Kerala uses a strict 50:50 weightage formula:

  • 50% from your normalized KEAM entrance score — your raw entrance exam marks are normalized to a score out of 300, accounting for variation in paper difficulty across exam sessions (April 17–22, 2026).
  • 50% from your normalized Plus Two PCM marks — your Class 12 board marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics are also normalized and mapped to a score out of 300.

Within the Plus Two component, the three subjects carry different weights: Mathematics gets 50%, Physics gets 30%, and Chemistry gets 20% of the 300-mark Plus Two component. This 5:3:2 ratio mirrors the subject weightage in the entrance exam itself.

KEAM 2026 Tie-Breaking Protocol

When two candidates score the same index marks, the following hierarchy is used to decide the better rank:

  • The candidate with the higher Mathematics score in the entrance exam ranks higher
  • If still tied, the candidate with the higher Physics score gets the better rank
  • If still tied, the older candidate (by date of birth) ranks higher

The KEAM 2026 application window has closed. This information serves as a reference for candidates planning for KEAM 2027.

KEAM 2026 Exam Pattern

KEAM 2026 brought a significant structural change: the exam moved from the two-paper pen-and-paper (OMR) format to a single-paper Computer Based Test (CBT). This was the first year KEAM was conducted fully online. The Engineering paper had 150 questions for 600 marks in 3 hours, with separate weighted sections for Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.

Engineering Exam Pattern (CBT Mode)

Subject Number of Questions Total Marks Weightage
Mathematics 75 300 50%
Physics 45 180 30%
Chemistry 30 120 20%
Total 150 600 100%

Pharmacy Exam Pattern

Subject Number of Questions Total Marks
Physics 45 180
Chemistry 30 120
Total 75 300

Marking Scheme and Key Rules

  • Question type: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) — 4 options each, one correct answer
  • Correct answer: +4 marks
  • Wrong answer: −1 mark (negative marking applies to all questions)
  • Unattempted question: 0 marks — no penalty for skipping
  • Duration: 180 minutes for Engineering; 90 minutes for Pharmacy
  • Medium: English and Malayalam
  • Mode: Computer Based Test (CBT) at designated exam centres

KEAM 2026 has negative marking of −1 for every wrong answer. Avoid guessing, especially in Chemistry, where each question is worth 4 marks — one wrong answer effectively costs you 5 marks (4 lost + 1 deducted).

Change from Earlier Years: Two Papers to One

Before 2026, KEAM had two separate papers: Paper 1 (Physics and Chemistry, 120 questions, 480 marks, 150 minutes) and Paper 2 (Mathematics, 120 questions, 480 marks, 150 minutes). From 2026, these merged into a single 3-hour CBT with 150 questions and 600 marks. The subject weightage (5:3:2 for Maths, Physics, Chemistry) remained the same.

KEAM 2026 Syllabus

The KEAM 2026 syllabus covers Class 11 and Class 12 topics in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. It follows the Kerala Higher Secondary Education Board curriculum, which closely aligns with NCERT guidelines. NCERT textbooks for Classes 11 and 12 are the primary reference material — the KEAM syllabus does not include topics outside this scope.

Mathematics — 75 Questions, 50% Weightage

Mathematics carries the highest weight in KEAM. Calculus, Algebra, and Coordinate Geometry are the most heavily tested areas. Candidates who want a top rank must be strong in Maths.

  • Algebra: Quadratic equations, Complex numbers, Matrices and Determinants, Permutations and Combinations, Binomial theorem, Sequences and Series
  • Trigonometry: Trigonometric functions and identities, Inverse trigonometric functions, Solution of triangles
  • Coordinate Geometry: Straight lines, Circles, Parabola, Ellipse, Hyperbola
  • Calculus: Limits and continuity, Derivatives and applications, Definite and indefinite integrals, Differential equations
  • Vectors and 3D Geometry: Dot product, Cross product, Lines and planes in three dimensions
  • Statistics and Probability: Measures of central tendency and dispersion, Classical probability, Bayes’ theorem, Binomial distribution

Physics — 45 Questions, 30% Weightage

Physics covers 19 units from Classes 11 and 12. Electrostatics, Optics, and Modern Physics typically have the most questions. Clear your concepts from NCERT before attempting numerical problems.

  • Mechanics: Units and Measurement, Laws of Motion, Work, Energy and Power, Rotational Motion, Gravitation
  • Thermal Physics: Thermodynamics, Kinetic Theory of Gases, Thermal properties of matter
  • Waves and Oscillations: Simple Harmonic Motion, Wave properties, Sound and Doppler effect
  • Electrostatics and Current Electricity: Coulomb’s law, Electric potential and capacitance, Ohm’s law, Kirchhoff’s rules, Wheatstone bridge
  • Magnetism: Magnetic effects of current, Electromagnetic Induction, AC circuits
  • Optics: Ray optics, Wave optics, Interference, Diffraction, Polarization
  • Modern Physics: Dual nature of radiation and matter, Atomic models, Nuclear physics, Semiconductor devices

Chemistry — 30 Questions, 20% Weightage

Chemistry has the lowest question count but is the most scoring if you are thorough with NCERT. Organic chemistry reactions and mechanisms, and chemical bonding, tend to appear most frequently.

  • Physical Chemistry: Structure of Atom, Chemical Bonding, States of Matter, Thermodynamics, Equilibrium, Redox Reactions, Electrochemistry, Chemical Kinetics, Solutions and Colligative Properties
  • Inorganic Chemistry: Periodic Table and Periodicity, s-block Elements, p-block Elements, d-block and f-block Elements, Coordination Compounds
  • Organic Chemistry: Basic concepts, Hydrocarbons, Haloalkanes and Haloarenes, Alcohols, Phenols and Ethers, Aldehydes, Ketones and Carboxylic Acids, Amines, Biomolecules, Polymers, Chemistry in Everyday Life

Candidates preparing for JEE Main will find the KEAM syllabus almost entirely overlapping. The key difference is that KEAM gives Mathematics 50% weight — so proportionally more preparation time should go to Maths than in JEE Main preparation.

KEAM 2026 Result and Scorecard

CEE Kerala released the KEAM 2026 result on May 12–13, 2026 at cee.kerala.gov.in. The scorecard shows raw marks in each subject along with the normalized scores. After the result, CEE published the normalized index scores, and the final rank list followed on June 20, 2026.

What the KEAM 2026 Scorecard Shows

  • Raw marks obtained in each subject (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry)
  • Normalized KEAM entrance score out of 300
  • Normalized Plus Two PCM score out of 300 (computed from your board marks)
  • Combined index score out of 600
  • KEAM 2026 Engineering or Pharmacy rank (available on the rank card, released June 20)

Why KEAM Uses Score Normalization

KEAM 2026 was held across multiple sessions — April 17 to 22, 2026. Candidates in different sessions faced different question papers. To ensure fairness, CEE Kerala applies a normalization process so that no candidate is penalized or benefited simply due to the difficulty of their session’s paper.

The normalized KEAM score (out of 300) is combined with the normalized Plus Two score (out of 300) to arrive at the final index score out of 600, which determines your rank in the KEAM 2026 rank list.

Is There a Minimum Qualifying Score in KEAM?

There is no minimum cutoff score in the KEAM entrance exam for ranking purposes. All candidates who appear for the exam and meet the Plus Two eligibility criteria (45% aggregate in PCM for General, 40% for SC/ST) receive a rank in the Engineering or Pharmacy rank list. The rank determines your competitiveness for college-course combinations during CAP counselling.

KEAM 2026 Marks vs Rank

Your KEAM 2026 rank depends on the combined index score out of 600, not the entrance exam marks alone. Since 50% of the index score comes from Plus Two PCM board marks, a candidate with strong board performance can outscore a peer who did better in the entrance exam but poorly in Class 12. This dual-component formula is unique to KEAM among major engineering entrance exams.

Expected KEAM 2026 Marks vs Rank — Engineering

Index Score (out of 600) Expected Rank Range Likely College Outcome
560 – 600 1 – 1,000 Top seats at CET Trivandrum, NIT Calicut (Home State Quota)
530 – 559 1,001 – 5,000 ECE / Mechanical at top government colleges
480 – 529 5,001 – 15,000 Government-aided colleges — Model Engineering College, TKM
420 – 479 15,001 – 35,000 Private self-financing colleges — popular branches
350 – 419 35,001 – 60,000 Private colleges — most branches available
Below 350 60,000+ Limited government options — management or NRI quota

These ranges are based on KEAM 2025 trends. Actual rank cutoffs shift depending on total candidates who appeared and the score distribution in 2026. Use these as a guide, not a guarantee.

KEAM 2026 vs 2025 — Registration Comparison

KEAM 2026 Counselling — CAP Process

KEAM admissions happen through the Centralised Allotment Process (CAP), managed entirely by CEE Kerala. CAP is a Single Window System (SWS) — you submit one ranked list of preferred college-course combinations online, and seats are allotted based on your KEAM rank, category, and preferences. You do not contact colleges separately or negotiate seats directly.

The KEAM 2026 CAP option registration is expected to open in the last week of June 2026, with the first seat allotment in the third week of July. In 2025, option entry ran from July 8 to 16, trial allotment came on July 17, and Round 1 allotment was declared on July 22 — expect a similar timeline this year.

KEAM 2026 CAP — Step-by-Step Process

  • Step 1 — Check Your Rank: Download your rank card from the CEE candidate portal (rank list released June 20, 2026). Your rank tells you which colleges and branches are realistically within reach.
  • Step 2 — CAP Registration and Fee Payment: Register separately for CAP on cee.kerala.gov.in and pay the non-refundable option entry fee online. This step is mandatory before you can fill in your options.
  • Step 3 — Option Entry: Log in and list your preferred college-branch combinations in order of priority. You can add as many combinations as you want — a longer and well-thought-out list improves your chances of getting a good seat.
  • Step 4 — Trial Allotment: CEE releases a provisional trial allotment. You can see which seat you might get and revise your option list before the window closes.
  • Step 5 — Round 1 Official Allotment: CEE publishes the first official seat allotment. If allotted, you must pay the allotment fee within the stipulated time (usually 2–3 days) to confirm the seat.
  • Step 6 — College Reporting and Document Verification: Report to your allotted college with original documents. The college verifies all certificates before completing admission. Missing the reporting window forfeits the seat.
  • Step 7 — Round 2 and Round 3 (Mop-Up): Candidates not satisfied with their Round 1 seat can participate in Round 2 for an upgrade. After Round 2, leftover seats go to a mop-up round — cutoffs there can be more relaxed for some colleges and branches.

Documents Required for KEAM 2026 CAP

  • KEAM 2026 rank card and scorecard (downloaded from cee.kerala.gov.in)
  • Class 10 mark sheet and pass certificate (date of birth proof)
  • Class 12 mark sheet and pass certificate
  • Nativity / domicile certificate (mandatory for Kerala state reservation)
  • Community certificate (for SC / ST / OBC SEBC candidates)
  • Income certificate (for EWS category or fee concession)
  • Aadhaar card
  • Passport-size photographs (4–6 copies)

Submit your option list before the deadline — CEE Kerala does not allow changes or late entries after the window closes. A longer, carefully ordered option list gives you more chances at a better seat in higher rounds.

KEAM 2026 Preparation Tips

The KEAM 2026 exam is over and the rank list is out. These tips are for students planning to appear in KEAM 2027, or for those who want to stay prepared for supplementary exams and future academic work while waiting for the CAP counselling to begin.

Subject-Wise Strategy

  • Mathematics (50% of entrance score, highest impact on rank): Calculus and Coordinate Geometry are the highest-scoring areas. Aim to solve at least 30–40 KEAM-level Maths problems daily. Past KEAM papers are the best resource — topic distribution remains consistent year to year.
  • Physics (30% of entrance score): Electrostatics, Optics, and Modern Physics tend to have the most questions. Clear NCERT concepts first, then move to numericals. In CBT mode, you need quick recall — timed practice is essential.
  • Chemistry (20% of entrance score, easiest to maximize): NCERT is sufficient for most questions. Organic chemistry named reactions and Inorganic chemistry periodic trends are regularly tested. Spending 2–3 focused hours on Chemistry daily is enough; put the saved time into Maths.

General Tips

  • Solve the last 10 years of KEAM question papers — question style and topic weightage are predictable and repeat across years.
  • KEAM has −1 negative marking. Never guess on questions where you have no idea — skip them to protect your score.
  • Your Plus Two board marks carry 50% weight in the rank. Doing well in board exams is just as important as the entrance test — do not sacrifice board preparation for entrance coaching.
  • With the switch to CBT mode from 2026, practice online mock tests. Reading questions on a screen, managing on-screen navigation, and time management in CBT are different from pen-and-paper and need separate practice.
  • Take full-length timed mock tests at least once a week. After each mock, track which topics you got wrong — revisit those chapters every 10 days.

Ques. How many candidates registered for KEAM 2026?

Ans. A total of 1,48,146 candidates registered for KEAM 2026 — 1,08,409 for Engineering and 39,737 for Pharmacy. This is higher than the 1,43,866 total in 2025. Pharmacy registrations saw the bigger jump — up about 18% from 2025 — reflecting growing interest in pharmacy education in Kerala.

Ques. What is the KEAM CAP and how does it work?

Ans. KEAM CAP (Centralised Allotment Process) is the online seat allotment system run by CEE Kerala for all engineering, pharmacy, and architecture admissions in the state. After the rank list is published, you register for CAP, fill in your preferred list of college-branch combinations in order of priority, and seats are allotted based on your rank, category, and preferences. There are typically 3 rounds — Round 1, Round 2, and a Mop-Up Round. You report to the college only after receiving your seat allotment letter.

Ques. What documents are needed for KEAM 2026 CAP counselling?

Ans. For KEAM 2026 CAP, keep these documents ready for college reporting: KEAM rank card and scorecard, Class 10 and Class 12 mark sheets and pass certificates, nativity/domicile certificate (for Kerala reservation), community certificate (for SC/ST/OBC), income certificate (for EWS or fee concession), Aadhaar card, and passport-size photographs. Colleges verify originals during admission — bring both originals and photocopies.
