Class 12 Chemistry Chapter 4 Chemical Kinetics – Important Topics

Chemical kinetics deals with the rate of chemical reactions. A chemical reaction is a process in which one or more reactants are converted to one or more products. Rate of reaction is the rate at which the concentration of either reactants or products gets increased or decreased.

Rate = K[A]x [B]y

Arrhenius equation established the relation between temperature and rate constant.

Arrhenius Equation k = Ae -Ea/RT

Half life of a reaction is the time taken by the reactants to reduce its concentration to half compared to its initial concentration.

Half Life T½  = 0.693/k

Order of Reaction is the sum of powers of the exponent in the rate equation. There are 3 orders of reaction, namely,

  • Zero order reaction
  • First order reaction
  • Second order reaction
  • Pseudo first order reaction
