How to Utilize Preparation Gap Between Two Exams?
CBSE provides enough gap between any two exams. If you have already covered your syllabus, you can utilize this time for revision and practice. Here we have provided a rough plan you can use during the preparatory gap between your exams:
Subject | Exam Date | Preparatory Days Provided as per CBSE Date Sheet | Preparation Plan |
---|---|---|---|
Chemistry | February 27, 2024 | 4 Days | Day 1 – Pick the major chapters and revise all the concepts, formulas, etc. Practice questions from Physical Chemistry part Day 2 – Learn and practice reactions from Organic Chemistry. Along side, pick smaller chapters with less weightage for quick revision Day 3 – Solve 3-4 sample papers and previous years’ question papers Day 4 – Revise the major topics again, keep practicing the question papers |
Physics | March 4, 2024 | 5 Days | Day 1 – Go through your notes, note down all the major formulas, and derivations for all the chapters (specifically major ones) Day 2 – Pick chapters of high marks weightage like Optics, Current Electricity, Magnetic Effects of Current and Magnetism and practice from your reference books Day 3 – Start solving sample papers and previous years’ question papers and also revise other chapters Day 4 – Keep solving as many questions as you can from different resources as Physics paper includes good number of numericals Day 5 – You might want to go through your notes once again apart from practicing previous years’ papers |
Mathematics | March 9, 2024 | 4 Days (for Science Stream) 15 Days (for Commerce Stream) 8 Days (for Arts Stream) | For Maths, the only preparation plan that works is practicing important questions. Since each stream has enough number of preparatory days for Maths, students can solve a good number of question papers or sample papers apart from solving their regular textbooks or reference books. Commerce stream have more than enough days for this paper, if they wish they can divide the preparation with another major subject like Accountancy. |
Biology | March 19, 2024 | 15 Days (if you have not opted Maths) 10 Days (if you have opted Maths also) | Whether or not you have opted Maths, you have sufficient days for Biology preparation. The preparation strategy should involve reading all the major chapters line to line as the competency-based questions in Biology are directly taken from the textbook. Learn your notes and practice diagrams along with labelling. Make separate notes for important direct questions that have high chances in board exams. Prepare notes for these questions in answer format that you can memorize and write in the final paper. |
Economics | March 18, 2024 | 8 Days | You can divide your days equally between Macroeconomics and Microeconomics revision for first 5 days. Last 3 days, focus on solving sample papers and previous years’ question papers. |

- Prioritize studying high-weightage chapters first.
- Focus on Core Topics:
- Within each chapter, identify core topics or concepts that are crucial for understanding and solving problems.
- Allocate more time to mastering these core topics.

- Stay Updated with Changes:
- Keep yourself updated with any changes or updates in the syllabus or exam pattern.
- Adapt your study plan if there are revisions to chapter-wise weightage.
Remember that while chapter-wise weightage is a useful guide, it's also essential to have a comprehensive understanding of all the chapters. Striking a balance between high-weightage and lower-weightage topics ensures a well-rounded preparation for your CBSE Class 12 exams.
Ques. Does CBSE follow the chapter-wise weightage strictly in question paper setting?
Ans. While CBSE provides chapter-wise weightage as a guideline for students, it's important to note that the board may not strictly adhere to these weightages in question paper setting. The chapter-wise weightage is intended to offer students insights into the relative importance of different chapters and topics within a subject, helping them prioritize their study efforts.
However, the actual distribution of questions in the exam paper can vary, and CBSE may introduce some flexibility in question paper setting. Here are a few points to consider:
CBSE may have a broad idea of the weightage, but it doesn't necessarily mean that the exact number of questions or marks will be allocated according to the provided weightage.
- Varied Question Types:
- Question papers are designed to assess a range of skills, including understanding, application, analysis, and critical thinking.
- CBSE may include questions from various chapters to ensure a comprehensive evaluation of students' knowledge.
- Inclusion of Conceptual Questions:
- CBSE may include questions that test fundamental concepts, irrespective of the specific weightage of a chapter.
- This is done to evaluate students' depth of understanding and application skills.
- Adaptation to Changes:
- The board may adapt question paper patterns to changes in the syllabus, educational requirements, or to introduce innovative assessment methods.
- Students should be prepared for unexpected variations in question paper structure.
- Emphasis on Learning Objectives:
- CBSE aims to assess whether students have achieved the learning objectives outlined in the syllabus.
- Question papers are designed to reflect these objectives rather than strictly adhering to predetermined weightages.
In conclusion, while the chapter-wise weightage is a valuable tool for students to organize their study plans, it's equally important not to solely rely on it. Students should aim for a comprehensive understanding of all chapters and topics within the prescribed syllabus. Regular practice with solving sample papers and previous year question papers is also recommended to familiarize themselves with the varied question types that may appear in the actual exams.
Ques. Is the chapter-wise weightage the same every year, or does it change for CBSE Class 12 exams?
Ans. The chapter-wise weightage for CBSE Class 12 exams is not necessarily the same every year. While the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) provides a broad outline of the chapter-wise weightage in the official syllabus, there can be variations from year to year. Several factors contribute to changes in the chapter-wise weightage:
- Curriculum Revisions: If there are updates or revisions to the curriculum, CBSE may adjust the weightage to reflect changes in the importance of specific topics or chapters.
- Educational Objectives: CBSE may modify the weightage to align with the educational objectives and learning outcomes outlined in the curriculum.
- Changes in the overall exam pattern or format may lead to adjustments in the distribution of marks across chapters. Check latest Subject-wise CBSE Class 12 Exam Pattern
- Feedback and Analysis: CBSE considers feedback from teachers, subject experts, and educational stakeholders when determining the weightage. If certain topics need more emphasis based on performance trends, adjustments may be made.
- The introduction of new topics or units in the syllabus may result in changes to the chapter-wise weightage.
- Technological Advancements: The inclusion of modern and relevant content, especially in subjects like science and technology, may influence the weightage assigned to specific chapters.
- Examination Reforms: Ongoing efforts to introduce examination reforms may lead to adjustments in the distribution of marks to align with the broader goals of assessment.
- Subject-Specific Considerations: Different subjects may undergo changes based on subject-specific considerations and emerging trends in academia.
Given these factors, it's crucial for students to refer to the latest official CBSE documents, including the most recent syllabus and notifications, to obtain the accurate chapter-wise weightage for their Class 12 exams. Additionally, schools often receive official communications from CBSE and can provide the latest information to students.
