Placement Experience

Girls in every imu campus gets placement even if they are not too good in studies so girls have no issues in placements.Talkiny about boys the placement scenario earlier was very good but after Covid the placement percentage dropped drastically but from last year this year the placements are getting better .The college is getting back to the placement percentage it had before .Im a second year student and 3 boys got into chevron which is a top class merchant Navy company,5 girls are placed in BW and rest are appearing for stenna interview. In 4th sem boys can apply for synergy exam and if they qualify they will surely crack the interview as imu chennai cadets get preference in synergy .In 5th sem many companies like torm and thome took 17 cadets .Rest in next sem many more companies are yet to come .In short in IMU Chennai if you are pass on all the subjects you'll surely get placement

Faculty

For bsc every sem there are 6 written and 2 practical exams .Written are for 70 marks in which we have to score atleast 35 for passing the rest 30 marks are given from our internal test marks in which 15 are passing .To be very honest the checking system for all IMU colleges is pretty bad so you can't tell that in which subject you may fail because papers are pretty easy to pass even if you just study pyqs thoroughly. Our stability teacher gave us the worse experience for stability he completed the syllabus too quickly we didn't even understood the concept.Rest all the faculty taught us good be it bridge equipment, chartwork ,meacs or celestial navigation

Overall I had a good experience in my college still inhave 1 sem remaining till now I had wonderful days in my college with My friends and staffs.there will be different events held like sports day, annual day, freshers day, maritime day, logistics day,and religion festival like pongal christmas ramzan onam everything will be celebrated on their respective month. I library it is full of Book which is related to studies like about ship and sea.some books like solas marpol are available at library. Inside the class there will be a projector with at tv and acupboard.class room will be nice. The college will support extracurricular activities they will send you for other colleges events to perform they will give their bus for travel. There is many clubs and groups for students wellfare like placement group, discipline clubabd for each department each club is there like for us NAUTICAL department in that they will conduct event every week for students to learn new things.

Faculty

Faculty are friendly and experienced sailors. But this course is really a challenge for students because it's tougher then mbbs There is lot to study and it is one of the dangerous job. Till you left the job you have to study. But for that danger you will get that amount of salary.if you are not placed in college there is least chance for job outside the college. Its very tough to get job outside. In this job all is about your communication skills and your respect towards the seniors so for that from college itself you have to obey the seniors. They will teach you the discipline. Atlast this course is not for enjoying college life it's fully about your mental strength. Overall it is good for who is really interested in this job.

Campus Life

You wake up due to your roommate's alarm at 6am while he sleeps till noon. You share everything, soap, clothes, toothpaste, deos and what not with your roomie. You start saying “I'm fine” even when you feel sick. You understand that friends are not the ones you usually hangout with, they are the ones you can call whenever you feel low. You get to watch cricket matches and football matches in the campus halls with a crowd of 100+ loud, energetic youngsters like you. Seriously something worth experiencing.

Faculty

Hmmmm…I am in my last semester.. I have very different faculties in termss of personality.. •Most of my faculties teaches fantastically and are really cool and easy going •Few faculties are really annoying as they take everything personally and hold grudges against students

Faculty

The student to faculty ratio is 1:40 but as the expertise of faculty is good, the rest is managable. The course structure keeps on changing as per the IMO fixtures that gets released every 3 years, but still the course is divided into various experience that make cadets sea ready. Each year brings us new challanges, new subjects regarding seamanship observation and practices. The exam system works on the basis of time particularity, like each sem is 90 days with particular hours given to each subject, and until each time limit is met, classes continue. My favourite faculty is Capt. Ranjit sir who served his 25 years into sailing and got retired from MERSERK, he teaches Chart work and Cargo handling. He is my most liked guest faculty because of the experience he shares with us about hus sailing days which guves us an idea of what we are about to experience and get our hands into.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees for odd semesters is 122000+30000, for additional charges including collage dorm fees, hostel dining fees. For even semesters is 122000. The average fee structure for three years is 875000 for BSc(Nautical Science) Cadets. Tution fees is 30000 with caution fees as 10000 and registration and admission fees as 30000. Compulsory for all categories. The other categories are provided with scholarship opportunities each year, especially for SC/ST. State boards like Maharashtra gives completely scholarship to SC/ST students including IMU(Synergy) as well. People placed in synergy get 100000, scholarship, especially girls as per the government of INDIA.

Faculty

The faculty here , most of them are higly experienced captains who know what they are teaching and know how to handle the situations with their students , whether they are going through tough times or not , they are very interactive, some are strict as they should be so the student faculty relationship is strong yet not so soft , so they know when to stop or when to get serious . They are able to finish their syllabus on a timely manner , not too fast , not too slow. Well , there are a lot of faculty but not as much , coz some faculty are taking two or three subjects in different classes. Well, there are two end sem exams and two internals exams including one practical exam and oral exam , they are mot difficult if you study well.

Campus Life

The only thing I don't like about the college is lack of cultural activities and programs. Expression is the only annual event of the college although college has various sports activities like cricket, football, swimming, badminton, basketball, tennis and boxing. There are many clubs run by cadets itself such as environmental club, sports club, literary club, debate club.

Faculty

Faculties are mostly captains and alumni of the college itself. They teachs both the aspects of core subjects theoretical as well as practical. They provide essential knowledge and share their experiences to pursue a bright career in merchant industry.

Course Curriculum Overview

To be said, this course can really helpful for you as of if you have opted for this course, you would know it's merchant navy officer post, so you would have knowledge about its salary and everything but this curse as of to survive, you would have to really get over the homesickness and your favourite food, if it's this college, you even have to forget about food because the mess quality they provide is really the worst and you would not believe me until you actually experience it.

Faculty

To start with, the faculty members does not know how to approach students with respect but with disrespect and inequality. They show their personal interests to students as of such racism like south indian, north indian. I would really recommend them to show such basic manners and to provide with knowledge and assist us throughout our course and show us a way to approach them. I wouldn't include everyone of them but yes, most of them.
