Current B.Sc Computer Science curricula include programming, algorithms, databases, operating systems and software-related subjects.

Ques. Can B.Sc Computer Science graduates apply for government jobs?

Ans. Yes. A recognised bachelor's degree can make graduates eligible for many general graduate-level government examinations, while technical IT posts may require specific subjects, certifications, experience or additional qualifications. Candidates should always match their degree against the individual recruitment notification.

Types of Admission Routes in India

1. National-Level Entrance Examination

  • CUET UG is the main national entrance route relevant to B.Sc Computer Science/Honours Computer Science at participating universities.
  • University of Delhi uses CUET UG 2026 followed by its Common Seat Allocation System for undergraduate admissions.

2. University-Level Entrance Examination

  • CHRIST Entrance Test, JET-UG, SUAT and LPUNEST are examples.
  • These tests are primarily used for programmes offered by the respective universities rather than all B.Sc Computer Science colleges nationally.

3. Merit-Based Admission

  • Class 12 marks remain an important route at many autonomous/state-affiliated colleges.
  • Fergusson College specifically states Class 12 Mathematics + admission on Class 12 percentage merit.

4. Counselling/Seat-Allocation Based Admission

  • Entrance scores or merit ranks may be followed by counselling, preference filling, document verification and seat allotment.
  • Delhi University's CSAS-UG is a major example after CUET UG.
Three Myths Busted
  • Myth: Only Science students can study B.Sc Computer Science. Many colleges require Mathematics/science subjects, but some universities allow other Class 12 backgrounds with prescribed bridge courses.
  • Myth: Every B.Sc Computer Science programme is exactly 3 years. Most listed programmes are 3 years, while 4-year Honours/Honours with Research formats are also available.
  • Myth: B.Sc Computer Science and B.Tech Computer Science Engineering are the same. B.Sc is science/computing-focused, while B.Tech is a 4-year engineering degree with a different curriculum and admission structure.

BSc (Computer Science) Admission Process

  • Eligibility: Class 12 or equivalent; Mathematics is commonly required. Typical minimum aggregate is approximately 45%–60%, but institute rules differ.
  • Academic Background: Science/PCM is commonly accepted. Some institutions permit students from other streams if mathematics or prescribed bridge-course requirements are satisfied.
  • Entrance: Apply for CUET UG, CHRIST ET, JET-UG, SUAT or LPUNEST only when required/accepted by the chosen institution.
  • Exam & Result: Appear for the relevant test - obtain score/rank/selection result - register with the university separately where required.
  • Counselling: Complete preference filling, counselling or college-level merit/application rounds.
  • Verification: Usually Class 10 and 12 marksheets, transfer/migration certificate, identity proof, photographs and category/eligibility certificates where applicable. MCC's 2026 verification list includes Class 11/12 marksheets, transfer certificate, fee receipt and applicable category/eligibility documents.
  • Seat Confirmation: Accept the allotted/selected seat and pay the admission/course fee within the specified deadline.
  • Merit Route: Fergusson College verifies Class 12 merit and documents before fee payment; Madras Christian College requires Plus Two marks for its 2026 UG process and Mathematics for B.Sc Computer Science.

Top BSc (Computer Science) Colleges in India

Ques. What percentage is required in Class 12 for B.Sc Computer Science?

Ans. A typical requirement is approximately 45%–60%, but there is no single national percentage. University-specific programmes can set higher subject and aggregate requirements; for example, LPU's specialised B.Sc Computer Science – Cyber Security states 60% with Physics, Mathematics and English.

Ques. Is CUET compulsory for all B.Sc Computer Science colleges?

Ans. No. CUET UG is important for participating universities such as the University of Delhi, but many autonomous colleges use Class 12 merit and private universities may use their own entrance tests. Fergusson College, for example, states Class 12 percentage merit for its B.Sc Computer Science admission.

Ques. What is a safe CUET score for B.Sc Computer Science?

Ans. There is no universal safe score. Admission depends on the university, programme, CUET subject combination, category, seat matrix and that year's applicant performance. For Delhi University's B.Sc (Hons.) Computer Science, students must first meet the prescribed CUET subject combination and then compete through CSAS seat allocation.

Ques. Which entrance exams should a B.Sc Computer Science aspirant prepare for?

Ans. CUET UG has the broadest national relevance. Students targeting particular private/deemed universities may additionally need CHRIST Entrance Test, JET-UG, SUAT or LPUNEST, depending on their college list.

Ques. Is B.Sc Computer Science better than BCA?

Ans. Neither is universally better. B.Sc Computer Science generally gives stronger emphasis to computer science concepts, mathematics and computing theory, while BCA is usually more application-oriented. For software jobs, projects, programming ability, internships and problem-solving skills can matter more than the degree title alone.

Ques. What is the difference between B.Sc Computer Science and B.Tech Computer Science Engineering?

Ans. B.Sc Computer Science is usually a 3-year science degree, although 4-year Honours options exist. B.Tech Computer Science Engineering is typically a 4-year engineering degree, normally includes a wider engineering/core technical framework and usually costs more. Admission routes also differ significantly.

Faculty

The faculty members in our college are generally supportive, approachable, and helpful. Most teachers clarify doubts even outside lecture hoours and maintain good relationship with students. The faculty-to-student ratio is satisfactory and teachers are generally supportive and approchable. The course structure follows the Mumbai University syllabus and covers core computer science subjects, though it could be more industry-level topics. The examination system includes internal test, practical exams and end-of-semester university exams. The difficulty level is moderate, and students who study regularly can perform well. The marking scheme is fair and based on theory exams, practical exams, assignments performance and attendance.

Fees and Financial Aid

The cost of the BSc. Computer Science course at this private college is between ?48000 to ?52000 each year. In the first year, the fee was around ?48000. In the second year, it was about ?50000, and in the third year it is approximately ?51562. This fees include tution fees, lab fees, exam charges and other compulsary charges. The total for the complete three-year course is approx. ?1.5 lakhs. The college allows students to pay the fees in installment, which makes it more manageable for many families. Scholarshipes are mainly available through government schemes for eligble students. Financial assistance depens on category and eligibility criteria.

Ques. Why is the cutoff for computer science in Thapar lower than that of NIT Jalandhar?

● Top Answer By Ayush Agarwal on 03 Dec 22

Ans. The cutoff for computer science in Thapar has seen a fall in figures. This is because of the decrease in the fame of this college. There are so many better and popular institutes that people usually don’t consider Thapar as their first choice. Even big companies prefer students from IITs, BITS or DTU. Students themselves opt for IIT because of its tag. They know the IIT tag will always be a boon for them. The general decrease in its popularity has resulted in lower cutoffs and the situation seems to be worsening over the years to come.Read more

● Top Answer By Praniti Arora on 26 Nov 21

Ans. It may not be right to compare the colleges under DU among each other. As most of them have similar curriculum and teaching techniques. But if infrastructure is considered Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College (DDUC) is far better than other colleges under DU. As it is a newly established institution, the facilities provided are upgraded with the latest technology.  They also are known to have a very highly experienced faculty, some of them even having 20-30 years of teaching experience. Therefore if you wish to choose among DDUC and ARSD College for an Honours degree in Computer Science, it is suggested that you go for the former rather than the latter.Read more

Ques. Which course is better, an MSc. in finance from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management, Mumbai, or NMIMS, Mumbai or MSc. in financial engineering from IFMR, Chennai?

● Top Answer By Apoorva Katnik on 14 Mar 23

Ans.  If you are considering pursuing a Master of Science (M Sc) degree from NMIMS, it is important to do some further research on the recognition of the degree. However, an MBA from their Mumbai campus can be a good option to consider. On the other hand, IFMR offers only MBA and Ph.D. programs, so it is not possible to pursue an M.Sc from there. As for JBIMS, it is the most prestigious institution in Mumbai, but there have been some concerns raised about the accuracy of their placement salary data. Additionally, the selection process for their M Sc course is quite competitive, with only 30 seats available for the program and a large number of candidates competing for those spots. Considering your interest in finance, it would be beneficial to aim for admission to a top-notch business school like XLRI, which is renowned for its finance program. Another option would be to gain experience in the industry and pursue a finance course such as CFA or FRM, which would make you eligible for admission to world-renowned business schools such as the Indian School of Business.Read more
