Hindustan Institute of Maritime Training (HIMT) is India’s largest maritime institute located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. HIMT Chennai is affiliated to Indian Maritime University and has been approved by Directorate General of Shipping. It has been rated outstanding (Grade 1) for all its courses. The institute offers wide range courses in the field of nautical science and marine engineering at undergraduate and postgraduate level. HIMT Chennai Admission
Applicants seeking admission in the Maritime Institute are required to fill an online application form. They will also have to appear for IMU-CET conducted at the university level. Apart from this, they will also need to pay an application fee of INR 1,000 either through Netbanking or Demand Draft in favor of “HIMT COLLEGE” payable at Chennai. The candidates who will clear the entrance exam are called for Psychometric Test, Medical Examination followed by Panel Interview and Pre-Sea Training.

HIMT Chennai Scholarships
HIMT College offers a number of attractive scholarships to reward deserving students and make education accessible to all. Listed below is a brief about the same:
- Merit-cum-Means Scholarships: This is awarded to students belonging from a low-income group with a continuous meritorious academic background. Each student undergoing 6 months GP rating course is given a scholarship amount of INR 25,000.

- Walk-in-Walk-out Scholarships: Top ten rank holders of any state or central board examination at the plus two or equivalent level are awarded a 50% off in the tuition fees. If they continue to secure the highest marks in each semester then the remaining 50% fees will be waived.
- Sports Scholarships: It is awarded to those students with an outstanding record in sports. Students who have won National level prize would be offered a one-time scholarship of INR 20,000 in the course fees. Similarly, if any student has won a State level prize would be offered a one-time scholarship of INR 10,000 in the course fees.
- Scholarship for Special Merit: An award of INR 5,000 is provided to students who show improvement in every semester. It is given annually to each Nautical and Engineering stream.
- Scholarship for Indian Armed Forces: HIMT College provides 50% off for the students whose parent has been martyred while in the service of Indian Armed Forces (Army, Navy or Airforce.) The applicants will be required to produce a confirmatory certificate from the Government of India.
- Miscellaneous Scholarships: The Institute provides a scholarship upto 20% of the course fee for various modular courses to cadets who are undergoing the pre-sea training.
- Female Candidate Scholarship: To fulfill the academic needs of female candidates, the Institute provides them a fee waiver of INR 25,000.

Before I applied to this college I had also applied to Great Eastern College, but the college didn't have any updates until I cleared this college admission formalities. initially the college had said that the batch will start the course by July then they postponed the course to September.HIMT requires you to have 65% aggregate in your B.Tech Degree and 60% PCM in 12th.

I didn't apply for any other colleges I just straight away applied to this college and they kept a selection interview and I have got selected and joined here as a electro technical officer trainee cadet admission process is very simple.. apply for the course .a basic interview, and fees payment .and that's it

Admission:
To be eligible for the GME course you should have completed a Mechanical Engineering Degree with 60%. Acquired 50% in English in 10+2. Age limit: should not exceed 28 years on the date of commencement of the course. If you qualify, you can apply online at the HIMT College website, the registration fee is Rs. 999/- after registration you will have an online test(easy) and an online face-to-face interview(easy), once you clear both you can pay the fees and submit your documents. The entire admission process is a robust online system. Very user-friendly.

- The hands on job practice what we get in HIMT, I don't think any other college will provide such facilities, faculties train is to become the best seafarers in the industry
- We have beautiful green lush campus, lot of places to sit and meditate in the calm nature, we also have a temple within campus

- We get minimal leaves as it's a fully residential course and they train us to not take leaves to have that ship kind of feel where you don't get many shore leaves
Admission:
Admission process is entirely online, I got the opportunity for pre course placement with International Maritime Employers council arranged by HIMT, I could proudly tell I am from the first batch of IMEC Indian cadet Training Program. HIMT conduct online written test followed by an interview, if you clear both you can make the fees payment online and join the college 1 day prior course commencement date. GME program is conducted in 2 semesters and both semesters you have exam conducted by the college only.

- The gym and sport facilities like table tennis indoor rowing football cricket etc

- Certain food items are limited for each student so cannot always eat with the heart content
- It is prohibited to bring food items inside the college campus so we can hardly taste anything outside the college kitchen
Admission:
The eligibility criteria for the course in this college is that you have to get an average of 60% or more in PCM (physics, chemistry, maths), you have take a medical test under a dg approved doctor and clear all the criterias for selection. You all have to qualify in IMUCET exam that held every year. All the details regarding admission are provided in their website and also you can in the admin office for the details.
