VJTI FAQs 2025

Ques. Does VJTI Mumbai offer scholarships to students?

Ans. VJTI Mumbai has around 40 scholarship schemes for its students. Students here are granted scholarships based on their categories. Some categories are awarded based on merit-cum-means basis, while some are fee waivers for selected categories. Additionally, students are also eligible for Government, Private, Industry-funded, and Alumni scholarships as well.

Ques. What is life like at VJTI Mumbai?

Ans. Students say that life is very pleasant at VJTI. The college is known for best placement and good campus. The faculty is also very supportive and interactive. Best and much experienced faculties who are exposed to industry needs and also have better work experience with industries. VJTI produces one of the best placement results across the state. Almost all students get placed in good companies.

Ques. How is VJTI Mumbai as a college?

Ans. According to student testimonials, the infrastructure at VJTI Mumbai is a bit old, but few classrooms and conference rooms have been renovated to the latest standards. The faculty is average, with only 60% of them being really good. All faculties are PhD holders from IIT Bombay, under the TEQIP II programme. The Placement for BTech is great, but for MTech it's above average, overall. However, BTech and MTech students do paid internships, which later get converted to PPOs. Labs are developed under TEQIP II programme, hence they are equipped with modern equipment. Library facilities are poor as the staff are a bit lazy. The tuition fee is alright for Mumbai standards. The ROI is high if your performance is good. The sports facilities, indoor facilities are poor but VJTI has two big grounds: one for cricket and other for football.

Ques. What are the hostel fees for PG students at VJTI Mumbai?

Ans. The VJTI Mumbai hostel fees for M.Tech/MCA students, as stated in a document from VJTI, are approximately ₹48,000 per year for the PG Hostel (Boys) and ₹22,710 per year for the B Hostel (Girls). These fees cover rent, electricity, other charges, and a caution money deposit.

Review from a Second Year student in VJTI !

Student view on course curriculum and syllabus

The curriculum is new and modern. Everything from the basics is taught. The teachers are always able to finish the syllabus. All the knowledge essential for our course is provided. Hands on practical experience is given to understand theoretical topics in greater depth

Internship opportunity provided by the college

The internship drive starts in the 4th semester around the months of August-September and mant students get internships. Some of the companies are software based, some are banking related and we also get core companies like Viraj. Roles such as software engineer, developer, designer, etc. are expected from the companies.

Placement scenario and highest package

Students become eligible for placements from the 7th semester itself. The highest is around 62lpa and the average revolves around 14-15 which is a great ROI. Almost 100% of students get placed every year. My plans are to grab a good placement after the degree, most preferably in a good company on campus.

How does college fees increment annually

The fees is extremely low and the return on investment is really high. The fee doesn't increment by 8% per annum like other colleges. There are many scholarship opportunities for backward classes, women, and people from humble backgrounds.

Annual fest and classrooms

Pratibimb, Technovanza, Nexus, Enthusia are some of the festivals organised. Typically held in winters (dec-feb). Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar library has a vast book collection, including the old as well as newest books. The classrooms are facilitated with windows, benches, fans, Air conditioning, Smart board with smart pen, projector, screen and so on. Sports such as basketball, football, cricket, chess, carrom, table tennis are played.

Skilled faculty and exams pattern

Majority of the faculty members are permanent and PhD doctorate holders. They have several years of experience in VJTI kr other colleges. Many graduates from IITs are also teaching here. 20% weightage is for teachers' assessment, 30% for mid semester examinations and 50% for end semester examinations. Students are graded based on relative grading and a 10 pointer system is followed.

Admission process and eligibility criteria

The college is very transparent regarding its placement percentage, internship opportunities and so on. Other colleges try not to release official data. Many colleges publish placement brochures, not reports, it is easy to lie on them. VJTI provides accurate placement reports. The alumni network is really strong, they have thousands of past graduates. The admission process is mainly through MHTCET. The overall admission procedure is fairly smooth. The cutoffs are really high. They are also increasing year be year as standards rise. If you are a GOPENS like me, aim for 99.9+ percentile for CE/IT and 99+ percentile for lower branches.

What is the hostel timings and nightlife in the campus

The Gymkhana has several indoor games like chess, carrom and table tennis to play. The cafeteria has great Indian and Chinese food options. Generally students are expected to come to hostels by 10pm. Sometimes they are allowed to arrive later if they are out due to some emergency. Famous hangout places near campus include Five Gardens, Shivaji Park, Juhu beach, Marine drive, etc.

Through JOSAA I got the IIT Dharwad, since I got the BS plus MS programm there I regestered for CSAB, through CSAB I secured seat into iiit Bhopal cse. Because it is a newly established iiit, it does have poor facilities. Then through CAP counselling I got seat at VJTI. Then Ieft iiit Bhopal and joined VJTI. Today I think that, the decision taken by me was absolutely right. Apart from this I also applied for IIST Thiruvananthpuram but due to my 12th board score I could not make it. As IIST has a criteria that student should secure minimum 75% in board exams. IIST does not have 20%ile criteria where all iits, nits and gftis has.

The highest package last year offered was of 57 LPA. The college admits only on the basis of MHTCET and there's also an NRI and gulf counries. But the competition is very cut throat. VJTI: 14 Answered Questions

Which is better, a CS at VIT, VJTI, BITS Goa, BITS Hyderabad, or NIT?

Debdeep Majumder
Bala KarthikVJTI, Mumbai

I think you should consider VJTI College to pursue a CS course. My reasons for choosing VJTI are:

  • VJTI is one of the best engineering colleges in Maharashtra known for its robust CS course. The program focuses on research and innovation helping students to develop a solid foundation in the basics of CS.
  • CS students from VJTI compete in several hackathons every year showing the level of education provided to students.
  • The college also has a dedicated in-house research centre for CoE as well.
  • Final-year CS students are also exposed to internships to apply their knowledge and skills in real-world scenarios.
  • The students are also placed in GSOC every year. VJTI also boast a strong industry connection that helps CS students secure job offers from top companies.

What should I choose, VJTI for Computer Science or BITS Goa for Chemical?

Rohan SewaneyVJTI pass out

My friend also faced the dilemma of choosing between VJTI and BITS Goa. He ended up choosing VJTI because of the following reasons.

  • VJTI offers a renowned CS curriculum with a strong focus on practical learning.
  • BITS Goa may have a higher average salary during placement, but placements for CS at VJTI are also pretty solid. A total of 401 BTech students have been placed till now in 2024. The highest package was secured by a BTech Computer Science student which stood at INR 57 LPA with the average package being INR 20 LPA.
  • VJTI has strong industry connections and easily offers students research and internship opportunities in top firms.
  • BITS Goa also offer most of such programs in dual degree format which may be uncomfortable for some students.
  • Mumbai being a tech hub can also be beneficial as VJTI CS students are to an ecosystem of networking opportunities and jobs.

Why are colleges such as BIT SINDRI, VJTI MUMBAI and HBTI KANPUR underrated?

Mayukh BoseStudied at B.Tech from Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (2021)

I have quite a few friends at VJIT Mumbai, so I can speak for the institute. After IITs, it is quite reputed among students. People from outside of Maharashtra may not be aware of VJIT but inside the state being a student of VJIT is a matter of pride.

If we make a comparison of engineering colleges nationwide, it will be IITs from tier-1, followed by few NITs, and after that colleges such as VJIT for the following tier.

VJIT is an old institute with a huge brand value. Many reputed MNCs visit the campus for the placement drive. It is less recognized but ‘underrated’ is probably is the wrong word to describe it.

The following factors are the reasons who most people are not familiar with the institute.

  • It is a state college, that limits its appeal to a great extent. Students, parents, and media all alike give far more important to national colleges/institutions by default.
  • As students outside of the state of the institute do not know about the college, they do not apply and thus the diversity is heavily skewed.

So, VJIT may not have national recognition but it is quite reputed inside Maharashtra.

Is it good to opt for VJTI Mumbai for an M.Tech in CSE?

Monmita BanerjeeStudied at Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute

As I have studied at VJTI, I can confirm that opting for MTech CSE from here will be a wise choice. The college has a long reputation for excellence in engineering courses with a focus on practical learning. The college possesses experienced faculty members with degrees from institutes like IITs providing students with guidance and valuable mentorship.

MTech graduates generally find placement in core sectors as well as in domains like consulting, IT and research. The college has a strong industry connection and a brand name that attracts many companies for placement. The placement cell also assists MTech students in securing opportunities in top companies.

For admission to MTech CSE, you are required to possess a bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline from a recognised university and a valid score in the GATE exam.

Why VJTI is better than KJ Somaiya?

Sounak Banerjee
Vidhi SatraVJTI, Mumbai

While both are very good engineering colleges from Mumbai, according to me VJTI’s superiority lies in its strong industry connections, esteemed faculty and brand name. Its curriculum ensures that students are exposed to the latest developments and practical skills. VJTI also has a strong alumni network working in top companies that further enhance its reputation. Every year, many companies visit the VJTI campus and provide good packages. For 2024, A total of 401 BTech students have been placed till now with more expected to grab good offers as the campus drive continues.

Apart from placements, VJTI also offers better ROI and start-up support to students who aspire to entrepreneurial ventures. KJ Somiaya also charges much higher for its courses while VJTI being an autonomous government institute has an economic fee structure. It fosters a culture of academic excellence and innovation. VJTI faculties are also much more capable than KJ Somaiya’s, guiding students and at the same time engaging in research.

Akanksha Gupta
Vijaya KathaVJTI, Mumbai
  • VJTI is a reputable college with a big brand value. It offers more in terms of admission, faculty, overall teaching and more.
  • The affordable fee structure also gives it an advantage over SVNIT.
  • Students are provided dedicated support from the well-learned and experienced faculties which is missing in big institutes like SVNIT.
  • The placement percentage for VJTI was 95.7 % with the highest package being INR 27 LPA.

Overall, I would suggest you to go with VJTI as it offers quality education at an affordable rate from dedicated faculties. VJTI also has a strong record of placements as it calls top companies for computer engineering students every year.

I am getting both ICT, Mumbai (Chemical Engineering) and VJTI CS. Which one should I opt for and why?

Sheetal Patelstudied at VJTI

I would suggest you go with VJTI CS as it will be a better choice in the long run. Computer science is in demand with the number of job openings increasing every day in the country. VJTI’s computer science program is famous in the country and is known for its curriculum with a dedicated emphasis on practical learning. The college has a dedicated faculty pool and most of them are also engaged in research. VJTI's location also benefits it to a thriving industry ecosystem, providing students with ample opportunities for research, internships and industry collaborations.

Placement is another factor in which VJTI is better according to me. In 2024, A total of 401 BTech students were placed with the highest package secured by a BTech Computer Science student which stood at INR 57 LPA. The average package for the BTech Computer Science branch was INR 20 LPA.
