VJTI Admission 2026 FAQs

Ques. Can I get admission into VJTI with 70 percentile?

Ans. As per the 2025 MHT CET cutoff at VJTI, the cutoff ranged from 97.33% to 99.95% for the general category students. Branches like Computer Engineering and Information Technology secured around 99% closing rank. Even the textile technology branch has an around 97.15% closing rank, which is the lowest cutoff for 2025 admissions, but is notably higher than 70%. The lowest cutoff for the reserved or special category candidates is generally around 70%. But for a general category candidate, securing a seat at VJTI with 70% in MHT CET is difficult. A minimum of 97% is required for admission into VJTI.

Ques. Can I get VJTI through JEE Mains?

Ans. VJTI accepts admission through MHT CET entrance exams for its B.Tech programs. But for students outside Maharashtra, JEE Mains scores are also considered for admission. However, a few sources suggest that JEE Main scores can be used for admission eligibility for outside Maharashtra candidates, and the main admission route is MHT CET.

Ques. How to appear for CAP counselling at VJTI Mumbai?

Ans. VJTI admission seats are distributed through CAP Counselling for its UG and PG programs. A step-wise CAP Counselling procedure is explained

  • Registration: Visit the online website of Maharashtra CET Cell CAP Portal and register for the counselling with all the required information and documents. Generate a login ID and password and save it.
  • Document Verification: Students need to participate in the online e-scrutiny or physical verification of documents at the CAP facilitation centre. This is mandatory to participate in the seat allocation round.
  • Choice Filling and Locking: Registered candidates need to log in to the CAP portal with their saved credentials. Further, they need to select and prioritize preferred colleges and courses.
  • Seat Allotment: A merit list is published based on ranks secured in JEE Main/MHT CET/MAH CET/GATE. Seats are allotted on a provisional basis to the students. Provisional allotments are published on the website.
  • Seat Confirmation and Fee Payment: Candidates who are allotted seats need to accept the seat and pay the seat confirmation fees online.
  • Physical Reporting: Further, students are requested to visit the campus within the given dates. Submit the original documents and pay the remaining amount to complete the admission process.

If seats are vacant after CAP rounds, Spot and institute-level admissions are conducted. Students will have to follow the institute-specific admission process.

Ques. Does VJTI offer any management quota to students?

Ans. VJTI Mumbai, being a Government Institute, does not offer any management quota for students.

VJTI Admissions: Students' Opinion

  • BTech

AI-Generated Summary based on 161 Reviews

Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI) offers admission into the Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Computer Engineering primarily through the MHT-CET entrance exam. A few seats are also available for JEE qualifiers and special categories such as NRI, J&K, and Northeast candidates. The cutoff for the general category is particularly competitive, often requiring candidates to achieve a percentile between 98 and 99.91 for top branches. Admission involves a straightforward process where candidates need to apply online and participate in CAP rounds managed by the Maharashtra government.

Direct or management quota admissions are not commonly practiced, aligning with standard Maharashtra CET norms. Occasionally, spot rounds provide an avenue for candidates to secure a seat if the initial cutoff was unmet. The competitive environment demands high scores, with computer engineering often necessitating the highest MHT-CET percentiles. For students ineligible for initial rounds, SPOT rounds may offer opportunities to enroll. MHT-CET is the primary route for Indian candidates, while certain allowances are in place for NRI candidates based on their equivalent 12th-grade examination results.

Placement records and the institute's reputable standing in the industry further enhance its appeal, making it a top choice for students prioritizing placement outcomes.

Talking about other colleges I applied for, I registered for JOSAA and CSAB both. Through JOSAA I got the IIT Dharwad, since I got the BS plus MS programm there I regestered for CSAB, through CSAB I secured seat into iiit Bhopal cse. Because it is a newly established iiit, it does have poor facilities. Then through CAP counselling I got seat at VJTI. Then Ieft iiit Bhopal and joined VJTI. Today I think that, the decision taken by me was absolutely right. Apart from this I also applied for IIST Thiruvananthpuram but due to my 12th board score I could not make it. As IIST has a criteria that student should secure minimum 75% in board exams. IIST does not have 20%ile criteria where all iits, nits and gftis has.

VJTI: 8 Answered Questions

What are the minimum marks required to get admission in IT or CS at K J Somaiya College or VJTI through the MH CET or the JEE?

Jignesh Pathakdepartment of CS.

For VJTI’s CS department, you are required to be in the top 150 students in CET. Alongside those, the IT cutoff as seen in a specific year was around the ranking of 325. These as mentioned are for a general female or male candidate.

The candidates who are to appear must however have scored more than 50% in 10 + 2 examinations from a recognized board of education. The Selection Criteria will be Entrance Based (MHT - CET).

As far as the closing rank of KJ Somaiya is concerned, then for CS, it was considered to be around 3500 and for IT, the closing rank was known to be somewhere ranging between and around 6500. Besides, the rank mentioned latter is for non-minority candidates.

But, if you are anyhow a Gujrati minority, then being selected in the institute is not much of a hassle. For the department of CS, the cutoff was ranged to be around the ranking of 7000, and similarly, for IT, it was around the ranking of 14000.

From sometime in a particular year, KJ Somaiya is expected to initiate its own University. And it can drastically alter the above mentioned numbers and disproportionate it in any specific manner. Besides, it also is supposed to conduct its own entrance exam in sometime or might also have initiated, the notice of which will be denoted in the college section area.

What is the admission process for the VJTI MCA program?

Nidhi SharmaBTech CSE, VJTI

MCA is one of the flagship programs at VJTI and as a former student, I can state that admission to its MCA course is pretty straightforward. First of all, you should check whether you are eligible or not for the MCA course. The basic eligibility criteria include a bachelor’s degree in any discipline with 50% marks from a UGC-recognised university.

Once you are eligible for the course, you have to appear in the MAH MCA CET entrance exam. VJTI provide admission to its MCA courses based on the entrance exam. You have to appear in the exam and try to match the MCA cutoff provided by the college. The 2023 MAH MCA CET cutoff for VJTI was 99.55.

Before appearing in the exam, you must register for the centralised admission process (CAP). It is controlled by DTE, Maharashtra. After clearing the exam, you have to appear in the selection process which generally consists of a group discussion and an interview. Every year VJTI takes in around 60 students for the MCA course.
