VJTI Mumbai has a slight edge over COEP Pune for Computer Science, primarily due to the Mumbai location advantage — but both are excellent government colleges.
the honest verdict: for CS career, Mumbai > Pune location-wise gives VJTI an edge. but COEP is definitely not a downgrade — COEP CS students do very well in placements and it's a more focused, smaller college with better faculty ratio. If you get COEP, don't feel you missed out. both would be in most people's top-3 government engineering colleges in Maharashtra.
COEP Pune is better for Computer Science and Engineering. It has good brand recognition and offers excellent placements. Each year around 90% of students get placed from the CSE branch. According to COEP placements of recent years, the average CTC for the CSE branch is around INR 6-7 LPA.
If you want to pursue higher studies after B.Tech, then COEP is a good option as well. Students of this institute are studying at CMU, Berkeley, etc.
