VJTI B.Tech Lateral FAQs

Ques. Can B.Sc (PCM) graduates apply for VJTI B.Tech Lateral, or is it only for diploma holders?

Ans. B.Sc (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) graduates with Mathematics are eligible for lateral entry in Computer Engineering or Information Technology branches only. They are listed on a separate merit rank list from diploma candidates in DTE’s DSE CAP. The minimum eligibility is 45% marks in B.Sc (40% for reserved category). For other branches like Mechanical or Civil, only diploma holders in the relevant branch are eligible.

Ques. Do B.Tech Lateral students at VJTI sit in the same classes as the regular 4-year B.Tech batch?

Ans. Yes. Lateral entrants join VJTI’s second year alongside regular B.Tech students and attend identical classes, labs, and examinations. The first-year subjects covering engineering mathematics, physics, and workshop practice are waived, as diploma training is assumed to cover equivalent ground. There is no separate lateral cohort or curriculum. Integration with the regular batch is immediate and complete from the first semester at VJTI.

Ques. What MHT CET Lateral percentile is typically needed for Computer Engineering or IT at VJTI?

Ans. Computer Engineering and IT are the most competitive branches at VJTI for lateral entry, typically demanding MHT CET Lateral percentiles above 99 for open category candidates. Mechanical, Production, and Textile branches have comparatively lower cutoffs. Branch-wise and category-wise cutoffs are published on dse2026.mahacet.org.in after each allotment round and are the most reliable guide for planning branch preference lists.

Ques. Is there a management quota or direct admission route at VJTI for B.Tech Lateral?

Ans. No. VJTI is a government-aided autonomous institute, and all B.Tech Lateral seats fall entirely under the DTE Maharashtra DSE CAP process. There is no management quota or direct admission path outside the state-level centralized process. A small NRI/OCI quota exists, processed through the same DSE portal but with a separate application and merit list for international-category candidates.

Ques. Are VJTI B.Tech Lateral graduates eligible for campus placements alongside regular B.Tech students?

Ans. Yes. B.Tech Lateral students are fully eligible for VJTI campus placements and face no distinction from regular students. Eligibility is based on academic year and CGPA thresholds set by individual companies. The 82% placement rate and INR 10.9 LPA median salary reported for VJTI B.Tech in the 2025 season cover the full graduating batch, including lateral entrants.
