Last year, NTA made various changes to CUET exam pattern. The changes in CUET exam pattern are listed below.
- Mode of Examination: The CUET exam mode has been changed from hybrid to a fully online mode.
- Reduction of Subjects: The number of subjects has been reduced to 37, comprising 13 Language Papers, 23 Domain Subjects, and 1 General Aptitude Test. Earlier, the total number of subjects was 61.
- Selection of Subjects: Students can only choose 5 subjects from a total of 37 subjects.
- Flexibility: Students are now allowed to select subjects of their choice irrespective of their class 12 subjects.
- Removal of Optional Questions: NTA has removed the optional questions from CUET, and all questions asked in CUET are compulsory.
- Exam Duration: Each paper of CUET 2026 is conducted for a duration of 60 minutes.
- Marking Scheme: 5 marks are allotted to each correct answer, -1 is deducted for each incorrect answer. There is no negative marking for incorrect answers.

Ans. With the change in CUET exam pattern, attempt strategy has changed slightly, and it must be changed. On one side, number of questions is fixed at 50 and all 50 questions are compulsory. CUET Marking Scheme and Normalization
NTA follows a proper normalization process to maintain equivalence among different question papers. As per the CUET marking scheme, students will get +5 for each correct answer and -1 for each incorrect answer. Based on this marking scheme, marks scored by each student will be considered as CUET raw score.
Considering the raw score of each candidate and the total number of candidates appearing in each shift, normalization is done based on the steps listed below.
Step 1: Convert Raw Scores into Percentile Scores
Percentile score is calculated based on the raw marks obtained by candidates in a shift and the total number of candidates in that shift using formula:

Where P is the percentile, M denotes the number of candidates scoring equal to or less than the raw score, and N is the number of candidates who appeared in a shift.
Step 2: Arrange percentiles in descending order
Percentiles are arranged in descending order, and the raw marks of candidates in each shift are noted.
Step 3: Calculate Normalized Score using Linear Interpolation Method
Normalized scores for each percentile score are calculated based on the linear interpolation method.
