CUET 2027 Preparation Tips
With the exam expected in May–June 2027 and today being August 2026, you have approximately nine months. The guidance below is organised by section type.
Domain Subjects (Section II) — All Streams
- Start with NCERT Class 12 textbooks and complete every chapter before moving to practice questions.
- Prepare concise chapter notes with key definitions, formulas, and diagrams — CUET questions often test exact NCERT wording and sub-heading concepts.
- After each NCERT chapter, solve 20–30 MCQs on that chapter from a CUET-aligned question bank.
- Identify your three weakest chapters in each subject by November 2026; allocate additional revision time for them in January–February 2027.
- Solve at least 10 full-length domain subject mock tests before the exam to build 60-minute paper-management speed.
English Language (Section IA — Code 101)
- Reading Comprehension carries 40% of English paper marks — practise two unseen passages daily, tracking time spent per question.
- For literary passages, read short poems and prose extracts regularly; focus on identifying tone, theme, and imagery — these appear in higher-difficulty questions.
- Build vocabulary by learning 10 new words daily using root-based methods; review Synonyms/Antonyms specifically from previous CUET English papers.
- Practise Parajumbles by first identifying the opening sentence (typically a general statement with no back-reference pronoun), then linking discourse markers and pronoun references.
- Brush up grammar systematically: Active/Passive Voice, Direct/Indirect Speech, and Tenses account for the bulk of Correct Word and Fill-in-the-Blank questions.
- Attempt at least 5 full-length English paper mocks under timed conditions; 60 minutes for 50 questions allows 72 seconds per question on average.
General Test (Section III — Code 501)
- Read a quality daily newspaper or follow a current affairs app — CUET GAT regularly includes questions from the past 12 months of national and international events.
- Numerical Ability in CUET GAT is Class 8–10 level maths — master Percentage, Profit and Loss, and Time-Work before advancing to Data Interpretation sets.
- Practise one new reasoning puzzle type (seating arrangement, coding-decoding, syllogism) every alternate day — consistency matters more than intensive bursts.
- Maintain a GK notebook and cover awards, sports results, government schemes, and science milestones monthly; revise the notebook weekly.
- Take one full-length General Test mock every week in the final two months before the exam.
General Strategy
- Confirm which papers your target universities require before finalising your subject selection — do not prepare papers that no university on your list requires.
- The −1 negative marking is significant; skip a question if you have no reasonable basis for an answer, rather than guessing randomly.
- Revise every NCERT chapter at least twice before the exam — one thorough reading and one rapid revision pass in the final month.
- Plan your exam day schedule in advance; CUET papers are held across multiple days, so manage rest and subject-wise revision accordingly.
CUET Syllabus 2027 FAQs
Ques. Is the CUET 2027 syllabus the same as the CUET 2026 syllabus?
Ans. The CUET 2027 official syllabus has not been released as of August 2026. Section IA and IB cover language papers — 13 compulsory and 20 additional languages respectively; each tests Reading Comprehension, Vocabulary, and Grammar through MCQs. Section II covers 27 domain-specific subjects based on NCERT Class 12 across Science, Commerce, and Humanities streams. Section III is the General Test (Code 501), covering General Knowledge, Current Affairs, Numerical Ability, Logical Reasoning, and Analytical Reasoning. Every paper is 50 MCQs, 250 marks, and 60 minutes.
Ques. What is covered in the CUET English Language paper (Code 101)?
Ans. The CUET English paper (Code 101) covers three main areas. Reading Comprehension accounts for 18–24 questions across factual, narrative, and literary passages of 300–350 words each. Verbal Ability includes Synonyms/Antonyms (8–10 questions), Correct Word/Fill-in-the-Blanks (6–8 questions), Parajumbles (3–5 questions), and Match the Following (3–5 questions). Grammar topics — Tenses, Voice, Narration, Parts of Speech, and Error Spotting — are tested within the Verbal Ability questions. Reading Comprehension carries approximately 40% of total marks, making it the most important section to practise.
Ques. Is NCERT enough for CUET 2027 domain subject preparation?
Ans. Yes, for Section II domain subjects, NCERT Class 12 textbooks are sufficient as the primary source. NTA frames domain questions directly from NCERT chapters, including in-text questions and examples. After completing NCERT, supplement with a CUET-specific question bank for MCQ format practice and time management. For the General Test, a daily newspaper is also needed for Current Affairs, which NCERT does not cover.
Ques. Where can I download the CUET 2027 official syllabus PDF?
Ans. The CUET 2027 syllabus PDF will be available on the official NTA portal at cuet.nta.nic.in after the notification release, expected in January 2027. NTA publishes individual PDFs for every language and domain paper. Until then, the CUET 2026 subject-wise PDFs on the same portal are the current preparation reference.
Ques. What topics are in the CUET 2027 General Test syllabus?
Ans. The CUET General Test (Code 501) covers five areas: (1) General Knowledge and Current Affairs — national/international events, awards, sports, science and technology; (2) General Mental Ability — series, analogies, spatial reasoning, pattern recognition; (3) Numerical Ability — percentage, profit/loss, time-work, mensuration (Class 8–10 level); (4) Quantitative Reasoning / Data Interpretation — bar charts, pie charts, line graphs, and tables; (5) Logical and Analytical Reasoning — coding-decoding, blood relations, seating arrangements, syllogisms. The paper is 50 MCQs worth 250 marks in 60 minutes.
Ques. How many domain subjects can I choose in CUET 2027?
Ans. You can attempt a maximum of 6 domain subject papers from Section II. Your selection should be guided by the admission requirements of your target university programmes — most universities specify 2–3 mandatory domain subjects for a given programme. Check each university’s requirement before finalising your application. Attempting papers that no target university requires does not improve your admission prospects.
Ques. Has the CUET 2027 syllabus been officially revised by NTA?
Ans. As of August 2026, NTA has not released the CUET 2027 notification or syllabus. No official revisions have been announced. The most recent revision was for CUET 2026, when NTA modified topics in History, Economics, Business Studies, Computer Science, and Physical Education. Monitor cuet.nta.nic.in after the January 2027 information bulletin for confirmed 2027 topic changes.
Ques. Is the CUET domain syllabus based on Class 11 or Class 12 NCERT?
Ans. CUET domain subjects in Section II are primarily based on Class 12 NCERT textbooks. For some subjects — particularly Physics, Chemistry, and Economics — background concepts from Class 11 NCERT help in understanding Class 12 chapters more fully. Complete Class 12 NCERT first; refer to Class 11 NCERT only to fill foundational gaps. The official CUET syllabus PDF for each subject specifies exactly which units and chapters are included.
Ques. What is the marking scheme for CUET 2027?
Ans. The CUET 2027 marking scheme awards +5 marks for every correct answer and deducts −1 mark for every incorrect answer. Unattempted questions receive 0 marks. All 50 questions in every paper are compulsory — NTA removed the earlier "attempt 40 of 50" optional structure starting CUET 2026. Every chapter in the NCERT syllabus for your chosen subjects must be prepared, since no question can be strategically skipped.
Ques. How should I cover the full CUET 2027 syllabus in the time available?
Ans. With the exam expected in May–June 2027 and today being August 2026, you have approximately nine months. Divide preparation into three phases. Phase 1 (August–November 2026): complete NCERT reading for all chosen domain subjects and begin English vocabulary building. Phase 2 (December 2026–February 2027): revise weak chapters, start full-length domain mock tests, and increase General Test practice with daily reasoning puzzles and current affairs reading. Phase 3 (March–May 2027): focus on rapid revision, past CUET paper analysis, and timed full-length mocks for every paper you plan to sit. Consistent 4–5 hours of daily focused study comfortably covers the full syllabus in this timeline.
