CUET 2027 Preparation Tips

CUET 2027 Preparation Tips

You have approximately nine months until the CUET 2027 exam (expected May–June 2027). The −1 penalty makes accuracy more important than speed. Build your preparation around accuracy first, then work on speed.

General Aptitude Test (GAT) Preparation

  • Read a national newspaper for 30 minutes daily — this covers Current Affairs and General Knowledge simultaneously and builds awareness for the new General Science section of the GAT.
  • Revise Class 10 NCERT Science for the General Science and Environmental Literacy portion. GAT questions on science are Class 10 level, not Class 12.
  • Practice 15–20 Mental Ability questions each day. Start with coding-decoding, series, and blood relations, as these topics respond fastest to practice.
  • For Numerical Ability, revise Class 8–10 maths concepts. Percentage, profit-loss, and time-speed-distance account for the bulk of GAT Numeracy questions.
  • Solve Data Interpretation sets under timed conditions. DI rewards students who read charts quickly and calculate step-by-step.
  • Take one full-length GAT mock every week from October 2026 onwards. Analyse every wrong answer before taking the next mock.

Domain Subject Preparation

  • NCERT is non-negotiable for all domain subjects. Complete every chapter, including in-text examples and end-of-chapter exercises, at least twice before the exam.
  • For Economics, cover all three books: Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, and Indian Economic Development. The Indian Economic Development book is a new addition from 2026 that many students underestimate.
  • Make a one-page formula or fact sheet per chapter. Use these sheets in the final four weeks of revision.
  • Solve 150–200 MCQs per subject from CUET-specific practice books after completing each chapter.
  • For Biology and History, read NCERT at the paragraph level. Many CUET questions directly quote or paraphrase NCERT text and captions.
  • For Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, solve CUET 2023–2026 past papers. Identify which chapter types appear most frequently.

Language Section Preparation

  • Practice two to three Reading Comprehension passages daily. Focus on reading speed without losing inference accuracy.
  • Build vocabulary by learning 8–10 new words daily with their usage in context. Prioritise words that appear in formal and academic writing.
  • Revise grammar rules (tenses, voice, speech) once every week. Grammar questions are consistent and fast-scoring if you know the patterns.
  • Para-jumble questions appear in every CUET Language paper and carry 4–6 marks. Practise identifying topic sentences and logical connectors.

Time Management in the Exam

  • CUET 2027 requires you to attempt all 50 questions per paper in 60 minutes. That gives 72 seconds per question on average.
  • Start with questions you are confident about. Return to harder questions in the final 10 minutes of each paper.
  • With a −1 penalty, attempt a question only if you can eliminate at least two of the four options.
  • Do not spend more than 90 seconds on any single question. Mark it for review and move on.
CUET 2027 Syllabus FAQs

CUET 2027 Syllabus FAQs

Ques. Has the CUET 2027 syllabus been officially released?

Ans. No. As of August 2026, NTA has not released the official CUET 2027 syllabus. The information bulletin — which contains the syllabus — is expected in the first week of January 2027. Until then, use the official CUET 2026 syllabus at cuet.nta.nic.in as your reference. The structure is expected to remain largely the same for 2027.

Ques. How many subjects can a student choose in CUET 2027?

Ans. A student can appear in a maximum of 5 subjects in CUET 2027. At least 1 of the 5 must be a Language paper (Section I). The remaining papers can be chosen from Domain Subjects (Section II) and the General Aptitude Test (Section III). Choose papers based on what your target universities and programmes require — not all programmes need the GAT.

Ques. What is the General Aptitude Test (GAT) in CUET 2027?

Ans. The General Aptitude Test (GAT) is Section III of CUET, renamed from "General Test" in the 2026 revision. It covers General Knowledge and Current Affairs, General Science and Environmental Literacy (a higher-emphasis area from 2026), General Mental Ability, Numerical Ability, and Quantitative Reasoning. The GAT carries 50 questions in 60 minutes for 250 marks. All 50 questions must be attempted.

Ques. Is NCERT Class 12 enough for CUET 2027 domain subjects?

Ans. Yes, for Section II Domain Subjects, NCERT Class 12 textbooks are the primary and sufficient source. CUET domain questions are directly mapped to NCERT content. For the General Aptitude Test (Section III), however, NCERT Class 12 is not enough — you also need NCERT Class 10 Science for General Science questions, newspapers for Current Affairs, and CUET-specific guides for reasoning and numerical ability.

Ques. Which topics were removed from the CUET syllabus in 2026 that are likely to stay out in 2027?

Ans. The key 2026 removals expected to carry into CUET 2027 include: Random Variables from Mathematics (Probability unit), the Not-for-Profit Organisations chapter and Redemption of Debentures section from Accountancy, several chapters from the updated CBSE Chemistry curriculum, and some Ecology sub-topics (ecological succession details) from Biology. Confirm these from the official January 2027 information bulletin before finalising your chapter plan.

Ques. What is the marking scheme for CUET 2027?

Ans. Based on CUET 2026, the CUET 2027 marking scheme is expected to be +5 marks for each correct answer and −1 mark for each wrong answer. All 50 questions per paper must be attempted — there is no option to leave questions unattempted without risk. Unattempted questions get 0 marks. The maximum score per paper is 250, and the maximum total (for 5 subjects) is 1250.

Ques. Where can I download the official CUET 2027 syllabus PDF?

Ans. The official CUET 2027 syllabus PDF will be available at cuet.nta.nic.in once NTA releases the information bulletin in January 2027. The syllabus is included as an annexure at the end of the bulletin PDF. Bookmark the official website and check back from January 2027 for updates.

Ques. Which topics are most important for the CUET 2027 General Aptitude Test?

Ans. Based on CUET 2025 and 2026 GAT paper trends, General Knowledge and Current Affairs (10–14 questions) and General Science and Environmental Literacy (8–12 questions) together account for the largest share of GAT marks. General Mental Ability and Numerical Ability each contribute 8–12 questions. Students who read a newspaper daily and revise Class 10 Science consistently tend to outperform in the GAT.

Ques. Is the Language paper compulsory in CUET 2027?

Ans. Yes. At least 1 Language paper from Section I (one of 13 available languages) is compulsory as part of your CUET subject combination. Most central universities also factor in the Language score when computing merit scores for admission. Check your target university’s official admission criteria to confirm which language is accepted or mandatory for your programme.

Ques. What new topic was added to the CUET Economics syllabus in 2026?

Ans. CUET 2026 added Indian Economic Development as a new Part C to the Economics syllabus. This covers India’s economic condition at independence, five-year planning, the 1991 LPG economic reforms (Liberalisation, Privatisation, Globalisation), challenges in agriculture and infrastructure, poverty and unemployment measurement, human development, and a comparison of development with China and Pakistan. Students appearing in CUET 2027 Economics must now study all three NCERT books: Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, and Indian Economic Development.

Ques. How should I prepare for CUET 2027 since the official syllabus is not yet released?

Ans. Use the official CUET 2026 syllabus (available at cuet.nta.nic.in) as your current reference. Complete NCERT Class 12 books for all your chosen domain subjects, build a daily newspaper habit for GAT, and solve CUET 2023–2026 past papers for pattern familiarity. Once the official CUET 2027 information bulletin is released in January 2027, compare it with the 2026 syllabus and adjust only the sections that change. This approach avoids starting from scratch after the official notification.

Ques. How many domain subjects does CUET 2027 offer?

Ans. CUET 2027 is expected to offer 24 domain-specific subjects in Section II, based on the CUET 2026 structure. These span Science (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, Computer Science, and others), Commerce (Accountancy, Business Studies, Economics, Applied Mathematics), and Humanities (History, Political Science, Geography, Sociology, Psychology, Legal Studies, and others). You can choose up to 3–4 domain subjects within your 5-paper limit. Confirm the final list from the official January 2027 information bulletin.
