Course Curriculum Overview

I liked chemistry thats why I chose metallurgy There is a huge gap in college curriculum and outside world with no real world skills taught to us in college. Should be made more practical and more aligned to real-world skills and professors teaching with interest rather than just speaking from ppts. Timing of exams is good and papers are medium to tough level.

Placement Experience

Placement percentage is currently at 78 percent for the current year though it was at 85 percent previous year. Metallurgy has 93 per cent placement, Many students opting for higher studies or going for GATE. Students become eligible from fourth year though they can take internships in third year itself

Fees and Financial Aid

the normal fee structure for a student without any sort of remission is 2.75 lakh for 1st year and this includes tution fees, hostel fees, institute fee, internet fee, medical fee, etc. the tution fee for first year is 125000 (62500 per semester) and the hostel fee for first year is around 1lakh(for first sem it's 53000 and for second semester it's around 48000.the hostel fee for consecutive semester decreases). for ews student you get remission but the remission amount depends on your ews category for e.g, for below 1 lakh the remission amount is 62500 meaning you don't have to pay tution fee but you still have to pay the the rest amount like hostel fee, internet fee, computer lab, medical fee, etc the amount comes down to 150,950(this includes hostel fee). for ews category greater than 1lakh but lesser than 5lakh then per semester you get a remission of 66% meaning 41,834, so the amount payable is around 20,666 meaning per semester you have to pay 1.91 lakh(including hostel fee and other fee) and for above 5lakh but below 8lakh you get no remission whatsoever. There are many types of scholarship available for students like NSP,airtel scholarship(but this is for circuital branches and cse only),there are many other scholarships. the fee structure for sc/st category is same as ews below 1lakh. Overall the course is quite afordability

Fees and Financial Aid

At NIT Tichy, the one time fees i paid was 26,500 at the time of admission and a tution fees of 62500 per semester there are various financial aids available like nsp scholaship and income based fee remission for example the students with family income less than 5lpa they pay around 33% of the tution fees and with students with family income of less than 1lpa they pay 0 tution fees moreover for categories like sc,st and pwd the tution fees is 0 irrespective of the family income the hostel and mess fees combined keeps on changing year by year this year i paid around 48,500 for this odd semester last year i paid around 90,000 for the enitre year which has all the hostel and mess charges most of my batchmates are availiing this income based fee remmision in which they are paying either 0 or 33%(20,666) tutuion fees which is very beneficial for them. Some of the studens are also on scholarship like the nsp scholarship or the scholapship provided by airtel or their state scholarship some of them are studying on loans as well. Every odd semester they take the charges of development fees, lab fees and the other compulsory fees which adds upto 25000 along the 62500 tution fees so the 25000 fees every student has to pay irrespective of the caste or income.

Faculty

The faculty members of this college are like that of all the colleges some of them are very good but some of them are here just to read the ppt and time pass you really have to study yourself for all the exams and labs the faculty to student ratio is not that good as most of the students don't go to faculty to clear their doubts so they clear their doubts by themselves. In the first year first semeseter the teachers were nice not all but most of them were nice espesially Dr. Kathik who taught us chemisty he used to teach without any ppt and some of the teachers just come and start reading the ppt i can't take the names of the teachers who i don't like due to obvious reasons they are at high posts. About the exams there are 3 exams conducted in the entire semester first one this CT1 then CT2 and then END SEM exams CT1 and CT2 are easy only which anyone can score good just by studying 1 or 2 days before the exam but for end sem exams one needs to start studying almost 10-15 days earlier because it consists of the entire syllabus apart of them we also have lab exams where we have to perform the experiment and answer the questions related to lab they mostly occur at the end of the semester.

Faculty

For the Core department, we have 7 Professors and 6 Assistant Professor and 5 Assosiate Professor and our batch strebngth is 112 M. srivasan sir is very strict in his class and sometimes he makes us scared in the class but at the same time he has the great knowledge of the subject. Nitin srivastav is the best teacher among all because his teaching style is great. He make sus understand the concepts directly into our brain. In a year, There are two exams. One is mid sem and another is end sem exam. For our core subject, Mid sem comprises of 25% of all the subject and 75% goes to End sem exam.

Placement Experience

Placements are average here. It does not meet students expectations but yes one guarantee is there and that is If you get admission here, you will not be unemployable. In core department around 8o to 90% students get placed which is nice but the problem is its avearge package which is lesser than even tier 2 NITs. Generally, Three types of companies come here, One is for tech roles, second is for your core department and third is consultancy and Fintech Job roles.

There are 200+faculties and faculty to student relationship is like parent to child relationship . Faculties are easily approachable both during college hours and after college hours . I liked all the faculties and all are equally good . They treat us like their own children. Yearly 2 semesters . In each semester there is Class assessment of 15 marks , Mid term of 25 marks and End term of 60 marks . The exam system is very good and very much systematic. Exam level is of moderate . Max Students pass the exam .

I would rate the MME Department at VNIT Nagpur as fairly comprehensive and relevant with good balance between fundamental Science and applied engineering. The curriculum cover all aspects such as physical metallurgy and machanical metallurgy and so on. The course has exposure to both traditional metallurgy and to Modern Materials Science such as polymer. In terms of real world readiness the course emphasizes on practical exposure and through Problem solving skills

Faculties are quite good except some . Some faculties are seriously horrible. There are 72 students in my class . Apprx 15- 19 girls . A.K.M acc to me is the best faculty here in my branch , friendly in nature, teaches well .. also be so chill . J.M is the faculty personaly i don't like him , he is too agressive and dominating There are two exams helds in our semester. First is mid term which is appz 25 marks . And second is end terms which is 60-70 marks . Courses are quite relevant to our Branch as I think . Courses are getting updated day by day . As they removed old subjects and introduced new ones . Like in first year DSA , in second AI. ML , molecular Dynamics, Modelling.

Faculty

The faculty to student ratio is pretty good. I dont know the exact number but it is good. There are 2 exams in one semester mid sem and end sems.Mid sems carry 30 marks and end sems are of 50 marks. The remaining 20 marks is given by the professor. He can give the marks any way he likes but mostly it is given for interaction in class, classtests and assignments given by the professor. The exams are not too difficult. One can score easily by reading class notes and slides as most questions are from class notes or from assignments or previous year questions. I liked Suchandar kayal sir from second semester who taught us maths. He was a bit strict on the attendance but his teaching was very good and he was very friendly. He also gave us good marks. I did not like the professor who taught evs in second semester. He only read the slides and did not pay any attentation to what the students are doing in the class and goes on reading the slides.

Course Curriculum Overview

In the first year every branch has same subjects. From the second year the subjects are mainly related to the specific branch.I think the cirriculum is also a little bit old for today's modern generation and it should include more real world subjects which are aplicable in today' world. There are some subjects which are not at all related to the course so they should be removed in my optnion so that students could spend there time in learing extra things which are essential forthe jobs. The teaching methods are good. Instead of using normal writing professors use presentation and lsides which helps in better understanding of ths subject.Internships start from third year and it prepares students for the real world. It helps students in placement during their fourth year.

For academic purpose there are three buildings in all and that's less. Also our campus was much smaller that what NITs in general have. There was just one playground and it was mostly occupied by the boys. Luckily hostels were good and that was the best part of our infrastructure. Fests and all were there and actually there were quite many of those.

Faculty

At NIT Raipur and especially for our department specialized faculties were called upon as only IITs and NITs and some special private universities offer this course. All our faculties were IITians and also had a practical life spent on it so the teaching too had a more practical approach from them.

Many sports event here like tournament of crickets, football premier league, badminton competition, chess matches, athletics matches, javelin throwing, sprinting, marathon etc... sports culture is very very much good here. Yes there many clubs here like focus which is Film society and photography club NSS and prayas India are two clubs which create impact on society like NSS organises Clean Drive movement and blood donation camp too and Prayas India is like an NGO that teaches poor students for free. Donates book too. There is go green club here which plants trees campus and which organises like competitions for global warming to save soil etc.

Faculty

Faculty to students ratio is very much good. Good Faculties are very much like mentor. They guide Students like parents. Anushree Dutta ma'am(MME dept) is one of the prof that I like as she is very much pure soul. She's like GuruMata to me. Another is Vajpayee Sir(MME dept), he's very very wise. He's spiritual too. Binay Sir(MME) is a very good human. He teaches very well. And he encourages students for startups or skill-enhancement. Shailesh Sir(ME) is very good soul. He's very much into spirituality too. The faculty to students ratio is very good here. the faculty is also very responsive and clears all the doubts even one of our strenght of materials teacher Dr harshit khandelwal even gives us extra time he told us we can come to his office anytime without hesitation he is very dedicated I respect him very much. some teachers here are very dedicated meanwhile others just read ppt. there are mainly 2 exams one mid sem and one end sem and also there are multiple quizes time to time. The exams are moderately difficult but the course relevence is not that much I dont know why they are still teaching those old courses

Course Curriculum Overview

the course of Engineering drawing is totally irrelevant we now have CAD softwares wgt are they still teaching us to draw on sheet they should have taught us to use CAD in an advanced manner. the chemistry syllabus is totally therotical you just have to mug up the things there is nothing you can get of it. The improvement they can do is it have more advanced curriculum and to focus more on modern tech. the labs here are old they are teaching us in labs what they are teaching from last 50 years

Classroom was air conditioned and there was projectors in the smart class. Sports and extracurricular was good. Sports activities were organised regularly, also teams participate in competitions all over India. There was an annual MNIT sports meet. There were various Clubs like NGOs. Those were NSS, VSS, think India and many others. There were other clubs related to other things like there was coding club, astronomy club, dance club, music club, etc. It had positive developmental impacts on students. It develops their personalities.

Faculty

Faculty were nice. Some were very helpful. Most of them had good knowledge of the subjects they were teaching. I liked most of the faculties. I wouldn't name them as this would discourage other facilities. All faculties were trying their best to fill us with knowledge of the subject. Very few faculties(1-2) were there who use to read the slides only. Those classes were really boring. I disliked such faculties. There were 2 exams in a semester- 1 mid sem exams and 1 end sem exams. They were quite difficult. Students failing depended upon the subject. In some subjects, most of them excelled. While in a few, it was very difficult to get passings marks only. Course was relevant but I would say they need to give more industrial knowledge. Theory part was more in the curriculum than practical part.

Ques. Should I choose NIT Trichy for CSE or IIT Roorkee for metallurgy? Why?

● Top Answer By Anusha Rahaman on 11 Apr 23

Ans. My brother was in the CSE branch of NIT Trichy and based on his experience, here are a few pointers: The professors are extremely learned and experienced and impart quality education The relative grading system establishes peer pressure, and as a result, there is tough competition among the students  IIT Roorkee is well known for its rich coding culture that is promoted by student-driven and institute funded clubs. These clubs give you additional knowledge on web designing, App development, and game development that might be useful later in The CSE department is one of the most coveted branches, and being a part of one will inculcate a sense of privilege. The hostel and campus life is decent with all necessary amenities. A total of 5 fests are held throughout the year and are totally funded and organized by the institute. The institute is located in an area that helps you explore nearby tourist spots like Pondicherry and Ooty. You won’t ever regret choosing NIT CSE.Read more

Ques. How is NIT Surathkal metallurgy?

● Top Answer By Debarati Nag on 13 Apr 21

Ans. Metallurgy at NIT Surathkal is a very good branch as there is a rising requirement of materials science and engineering and their number of students taking admission in this branch is comparatively less than other branches like Civil, Mechanical or Electrical so you can expect less competition in this field. Categories Metallurgy at NIT Surathkal Course Fee 1.85 lakh Placement Percentage 54% Average CTC 7 LPA The course is really good and it gives a strong base to the students for their higher studies which is quite important in this field. The department is now called Metallurgical and Materials Engineering and it focuses more on materials engineering. The professors here are very good at their job and are enthusiastic about teaching. They teach very well and create an interest among the students.  The facilities are not that great but are good enough as an engineering college. There is one SEM and XRD, metallurgy lab, materials testing lab, and a good heat treatment lab. The placement records are quite good too and it exposes you to various companies so you can secure a job in both core and non-core companies.Read more

Ques. Have I made the right decision by dropping the BITS Pilani EEE branch for IIT Madras for metallurgy?

● Top Answer By Madhav Aneja on 28 Mar 23

Ans. In my opinion, you have made the right decision by dropping the PITS Pilani EEE branch for IIT Madras Metallurgy. My cousin was forced to take IIT Madras Metallurgy by his mother. Initially, he was disappointed but his mother advised him to continue with the same enthusiasm he cleared JEE. Many students after getting admission relax and this opens opportunities for those who continue to slog even after admission. Your ultimate goal should be to change your branch for which you will have to work hard. This can be done by staying among the top 5% of the batch with around 9 CGPA. You can switch to Mechanical and even to Electrical sometimes with a good CGPA. All you have to do is Focus on your subjects Do well in the tutorials Perform well on quiz  Ace your practicals  Score high in the Final semester exam IIT Madras has a plethora of subjects to choose from in addition to a dual degree. You can change your branch provided your academic performance is at par with the requirements in the 3rd year. Some other highlights that might convince you further to choose IIT Madras are Creative clubs like C5 help in harnessing skills in your area of interest. These clubs have made amazing innovations and you can always learn so much by being a part of them. The unique Research Park which is the IIT Madras incubation center  Extracurricular activities such as Yoga, 5-star Gym, long-distance running, etc. The Institute operates under the leadership of highly learned alumni and so are most of the Deans. Air-conditioned Central library that is stacked with resources All these are unique to IIT Madras and thus it’s a better option than BITS Pilani.Read more

Ques. Should I go for Metallurgy at NIT Raipur? How are the placements in the branch there?

● Top Answer By Damini Jain on 31 Mar 21

Ans. NIT Raipur is a very good college and currently ranks at 67 in NIRF ranking among the top engineering institutes in India. And if you are a good student then maybe you can even get the CS branch as well. Placements Various companies visited on campus for placements. In addition, the faculty will also train you to clear the aptitude test and focus mainly on the orientation of the students. The highest salary package offered was 7 lakh per year for metallurgy in software development, while the lowest was 4 lakh. So, on average, it went from 5 to 6 LPA, which is considered a decent package here in Raipur. Infosys, Wipro, and Trendence are the top recruiting companies. A total of 5 to 6 out of 50 students are placed in reputed companies of India. However, if you want to pursue M.Tech in a good college, study well and sit for GATE instead. The department of Metallurgy is famous at NIT Raipur and can help you in getting good scores.Read more

Ques. Should I go for civil engineering or metallurgy and material science engineering in NIT Trichy?

● Top Answer By Sreeja Prasad on 31 Aug 21

Ans. I would suggest you go for metallurgy if you plan to do a job right after completing your degree. Metallurgy has more job opportunities to offer. With Metallurgy, you can easily learn coding and go for tech companies. NIT Trichy has a great coding culture, so picking up coding skills will not be difficult.  If you plan to prepare for civil services or any other government job, I would suggest you go for civil engineering. When compared to metallurgy, there are fewer job opportunities in the civil department. If you plan on doing an MBA after having done your engineering, you can opt for either of them because then it does not matter anyway.Read more

Ques. Which is better: CSE in NIT, Durgapur or metallurgy in NIT, Warangal?

● Top Answer By Kalyan Shastri on 08 Sept 23

Ans. I would like you to consider certain important things before making your decision- College- Without a doubt, NIT Warangal is ahead of NIT Durgapur in terms of faculty, infrastructure and hostel facilities. Subject - You need to choose your subject based on your interests. Without that you’ll either hate your profession or choose a completely different career path altogether. If you are into math, coding, logic and problem-solving, choose CSE. On the other hand, if you want to study materials, metals, extraction, etc, choose Metallurgy.  Profession - CSE will give you better opportunities in the IT sector. You might get a fat check, work for a good company, and live in metropolitans. As you know, IT jobs are basically office jobs.On the other hand, core Metallurgy jobs deal with steel plants, mines and such. You’ll end up working in a remote area if you choose a core job.The placements for CSE are overall much better than Metallurgy, across all engineering colleges. But if you have a passion for metallurgy, you might end up in a good brand or get selected for a government position.  Location- Both the places are culturally very different. Research a bit, and figure out which place’s food habits, climate, and culture suits you better. According to me your college will last for 4 years. However, your branch will become an intrinsic part of your personality and profession. Unless you have an interest in Metallurgy or a good chance at sliding to another branch, choose CSE at NIT Durgapur.Read more

Ques. What should I take, Metallurgy and Material Science Engineering at IIT Indore or Electrical Engineering at IIT Bhilai?

● Top Answer By Anirudh Roy on 11 Jan 21

Ans. In general, it is better to choose the branch of your choice. Given below are a few trade-offs of the two choices given on the question which may help you in making the decision.  MEMS - IIT Indore: Administration: IIT Indore belongs to the 2008-09 batch of IITs. Although it can’t be compared with older IITs but it has made remarkable progress in this short span of time. The administration and departments are well-settled. Extra-curricular at the institute are also developing with time. In 4-5 years, the institute is expected to have a great future. Course: BTech MEMS at IIT Indore is fairly new and the duration of the existence of the course is the same as the B Tech Electrical course at IIT Bhilai. However, the MEMS department has been functioning for a while at IIT Indore. As a department it has experience. The faculties are great.  Placements: MEMS has a lower placement rate as compared to other core branches of engineering. Metallurgy and Material Science is a niche field of study and the degree outcome is more research-oriented.  Change of Branch: However, you can change your branch to Electrical or Mechanical from MEMES at IIT I, if you work hard in your 1st year. Changing to CS is always difficult because of the competition. Electrical at IIT Bhilai: Facilities: IIT Bhilai was established back in 2016. It is only 4 years old. Electrical is a core Engineering discipline with better career prospects. But the disadvantage of this choice is the institute. You will have a few seniors in your branch and temporary faculties. Extracurricular: You will have good opportunities to start events, clubs, in the institute. On the other hand, the future at this institute is a bit uncertain. Campus Life: The institute also does not have a proper campus. You will not have a proper campus life for the next 4 years.  The table below shows a brief overview of the two institutes. Particulars IIT Indore IIT Bhilai Average CTC 17 LPA 11.22 LPA Seats 53 54 Fees INR 9.15 Lakh INR 4.90 Lakh One of my friends had an option between Mechanical at IIT Indore and CS at a new IIT. He chose Mechanical at IIT Indore. Judging by his experience it is safe to say that he made the right decision at least for 2-3 more years.  The choice is up to you if you would rather trade off on the branch or on the institution. If you are confident you can secure a good future from the limited opportunities a new IIT can offer, you should go for it.Read more

Ques. What should I take, metallurgy and material science at IIT Indore or electrical at IIT Bhilai?

● Top Answer By Nivedita Trivedi on 17 Jun 23

Ans. I think the branch matters more than the institute and that being said personally I feel IIT Bhilai Electrical is a better option than IIT Indore Material Science. The small batch size enables you to make the most out of the opportunities and resources. The points below further prove my opinion  Here is a small list of things why you should consider IIT Bhilai: The professors come from IIT Hyderabad, one of the most reputed and well-regarded new IITs. The fractal system is followed here giving you a more flexible academic palette.  The core subjects are introduced in the first semester itself so that students can identify their interests early.  IIT Bhilai EE lab is one of the very few labs in India which is Cloud Connected. There are 20 All-in-ones that have 8-core i7 processors in the EE lab. The institute has vibrant campus life with dynamic student activities going on such as 6 cultural clubs and 3 tech clubs. The Electronics Club of IIT Bhilai Is well-equipped and enables you to experiment with various modules like GPS module, GPRS module, accelerometer, etc Overall, taking IIT Bhilai will not disappoint you and you will have a plethora of opportunities here.Read more
