Course Curriculum Overview

2

I liked chemistry thats why I chose metallurgy There is a huge gap in college curriculum and outside world with no real world skills taught to us in college. Should be made more practical and more aligned to real-world skills and professors teaching with interest rather than just speaking from ppts. Timing of exams is good and papers are medium to tough level.

Internships Opportunities

5

roles such as management trainee offered by companies such as black buck and Software Development Engineer by microsoft in third year , Graduate Engineer Trainee by Reliance Industries. Even core comapnies give internship opportunites such as training.

Placement Experience

4

Placement percentage is currently at 78 percent for the current year though it was at 85 percent previous year. Metallurgy has 93 per cent placement, Many students opting for higher studies or going for GATE. Students become eligible from fourth year though they can take internships in third year itself

Fees and Financial Aid

The hostel and mess fees are 24000. total fees is 180000...We have NSP scholarship and SVMCM scholarship only for Bengali students. Fees do not increase every year. We get 60,000 as SVMCM and depending on various income brackets get the money accordingly in NSP.

Campus Life

4

We have Rectsacy, annual cultural festival and Aarohan, techno managerial festival with dj night and bands and acclaimed singers coming to our college. Recstacy is held in feb while aarohan is held in october. Except two or three clubs most of the clubs are usless

Hostel Facilities

2

Hostel facilities are poor with problems in drinking water , sewage system , lighting , fans and even wahsrooms with taps broken and many not giving water. registration process is usually done via paper given to hostel warden and random chit allotment for rooms.

Admission

I got confirmed admission in IIIT raichur , karnataka in AI and DS branch but chose NIT Durgapur due to location issues as I live in UP and secondly due to NIT tag and interest in chemistry hence metallurgy. IIIT raichur is not good in terms of infra and placement as well as it was established in 2019

Faculty

4

Almost 14:1 is the student-to-faculty ratio. faculty to student relationship is not at all approachable with professors, especially in meta department scolding us for no reason and putting unncessary burden. clearing exam honestly depends on the branch and exams are moderatley difficult .

Night Life

4

We can roam freely at night with no in -time for girls and boys from the second year onwards. Some famous hangout places are Jhoops and amusment parks. GYM and Libraray usually close around 10 , but the campus remains active.

The last few years placement is better. The placement is around 80%. From the final year, the students are allowed to sit in placement drive. The placement begins in Aug-Sept and it goes upto April - May. The number of campany visited in the last year is 80+ and around 400+ students got placed in our department. Now comes to my plans, I want to work in a core reputed organization in which I can grow my future career and learns from senior professionals.

I wanted to go for a field having Biology in it. Thus biology and tech made a good option for me. MY course incuded much more than Biotech. It had French, Pscycology, environmnet sci, Marketing and also a lot of sports imnvolved. There were 2 semesters per year. The teaching methods are quite good along with modern tech. Labs were well equiped and also propoer dress code was maobted during pracyical lessons.

IITs are known for their placements, and this is exactly where they shine as compared to other colleges. From 7th semester onwards, the placements begin and is conducted by the CDC (Career development centre) in two phases. The highest package was around 2.5 Cr, with the average being around 22 lpa. Top recruiting companies include Google, Microsoft, Optiver, other HFTs which accounted for most of the highest packages offered. Around 75% of the students got placed during the 2025-2026 placement season.

Since I'm in first year so I don't got into my specialization that much , but from my knowledge we are getting knowledge about all domain in a portion which will help us in our future . This also helps us to decide that specifically which domain is best for us . Since I'm in first year so I didn't have my exams yet because of the late admission in college the reason for late admission was stay in admission by the Calcutta Highcourt due to some issues on reservation.
