Ques. How is NIT Surathkal metallurgy?

● Top Answer By Debarati Nag on 13 Apr 21

Ans. Metallurgy at NIT Surathkal is a very good branch as there is a rising requirement of materials science and engineering and their number of students taking admission in this branch is comparatively less than other branches like Civil, Mechanical or Electrical so you can expect less competition in this field. Categories Metallurgy at NIT Surathkal Course Fee 1.85 lakh Placement Percentage 54% Average CTC 7 LPA The course is really good and it gives a strong base to the students for their higher studies which is quite important in this field. The department is now called Metallurgical and Materials Engineering and it focuses more on materials engineering. The professors here are very good at their job and are enthusiastic about teaching. They teach very well and create an interest among the students.  The facilities are not that great but are good enough as an engineering college. There is one SEM and XRD, metallurgy lab, materials testing lab, and a good heat treatment lab. The placement records are quite good too and it exposes you to various companies so you can secure a job in both core and non-core companies.Read more

Ques. Have I made the right decision by dropping the BITS Pilani EEE branch for IIT Madras for metallurgy?

● Top Answer By Madhav Aneja on 28 Mar 23

Ans. In my opinion, you have made the right decision by dropping the PITS Pilani EEE branch for IIT Madras Metallurgy. My cousin was forced to take IIT Madras Metallurgy by his mother. Initially, he was disappointed but his mother advised him to continue with the same enthusiasm he cleared JEE. Many students after getting admission relax and this opens opportunities for those who continue to slog even after admission. Your ultimate goal should be to change your branch for which you will have to work hard. This can be done by staying among the top 5% of the batch with around 9 CGPA. You can switch to Mechanical and even to Electrical sometimes with a good CGPA. All you have to do is Focus on your subjects Do well in the tutorials Perform well on quiz  Ace your practicals  Score high in the Final semester exam IIT Madras has a plethora of subjects to choose from in addition to a dual degree. You can change your branch provided your academic performance is at par with the requirements in the 3rd year. Some other highlights that might convince you further to choose IIT Madras are Creative clubs like C5 help in harnessing skills in your area of interest. These clubs have made amazing innovations and you can always learn so much by being a part of them. The unique Research Park which is the IIT Madras incubation center  Extracurricular activities such as Yoga, 5-star Gym, long-distance running, etc. The Institute operates under the leadership of highly learned alumni and so are most of the Deans. Air-conditioned Central library that is stacked with resources All these are unique to IIT Madras and thus it’s a better option than BITS Pilani.Read more

Ques. Should I go for civil engineering or metallurgy and material science engineering in NIT Trichy?

● Top Answer By Sreeja Prasad on 31 Aug 21

Ans. I would suggest you go for metallurgy if you plan to do a job right after completing your degree. Metallurgy has more job opportunities to offer. With Metallurgy, you can easily learn coding and go for tech companies. NIT Trichy has a great coding culture, so picking up coding skills will not be difficult.  If you plan to prepare for civil services or any other government job, I would suggest you go for civil engineering. When compared to metallurgy, there are fewer job opportunities in the civil department. If you plan on doing an MBA after having done your engineering, you can opt for either of them because then it does not matter anyway.Read more

Ques. Which is better: CSE in NIT, Durgapur or metallurgy in NIT, Warangal?

● Top Answer By Kalyan Shastri on 08 Sept 23

Ans. I would like you to consider certain important things before making your decision- College- Without a doubt, NIT Warangal is ahead of NIT Durgapur in terms of faculty, infrastructure and hostel facilities. Subject - You need to choose your subject based on your interests. Without that you’ll either hate your profession or choose a completely different career path altogether. If you are into math, coding, logic and problem-solving, choose CSE. On the other hand, if you want to study materials, metals, extraction, etc, choose Metallurgy.  Profession - CSE will give you better opportunities in the IT sector. You might get a fat check, work for a good company, and live in metropolitans. As you know, IT jobs are basically office jobs.On the other hand, core Metallurgy jobs deal with steel plants, mines and such. You’ll end up working in a remote area if you choose a core job.The placements for CSE are overall much better than Metallurgy, across all engineering colleges. But if you have a passion for metallurgy, you might end up in a good brand or get selected for a government position.  Location- Both the places are culturally very different. Research a bit, and figure out which place’s food habits, climate, and culture suits you better. According to me your college will last for 4 years. However, your branch will become an intrinsic part of your personality and profession. Unless you have an interest in Metallurgy or a good chance at sliding to another branch, choose CSE at NIT Durgapur.Read more

Ques. What should I take, Metallurgy and Material Science Engineering at IIT Indore or Electrical Engineering at IIT Bhilai?

● Top Answer By Anirudh Roy on 11 Jan 21

Ans. In general, it is better to choose the branch of your choice. Given below are a few trade-offs of the two choices given on the question which may help you in making the decision.  MEMS - IIT Indore: Administration: IIT Indore belongs to the 2008-09 batch of IITs. Although it can’t be compared with older IITs but it has made remarkable progress in this short span of time. The administration and departments are well-settled. Extra-curricular at the institute are also developing with time. In 4-5 years, the institute is expected to have a great future. Course: BTech MEMS at IIT Indore is fairly new and the duration of the existence of the course is the same as the B Tech Electrical course at IIT Bhilai. However, the MEMS department has been functioning for a while at IIT Indore. As a department it has experience. The faculties are great.  Placements: MEMS has a lower placement rate as compared to other core branches of engineering. Metallurgy and Material Science is a niche field of study and the degree outcome is more research-oriented.  Change of Branch: However, you can change your branch to Electrical or Mechanical from MEMES at IIT I, if you work hard in your 1st year. Changing to CS is always difficult because of the competition. Electrical at IIT Bhilai: Facilities: IIT Bhilai was established back in 2016. It is only 4 years old. Electrical is a core Engineering discipline with better career prospects. But the disadvantage of this choice is the institute. You will have a few seniors in your branch and temporary faculties. Extracurricular: You will have good opportunities to start events, clubs, in the institute. On the other hand, the future at this institute is a bit uncertain. Campus Life: The institute also does not have a proper campus. You will not have a proper campus life for the next 4 years.  The table below shows a brief overview of the two institutes. Particulars IIT Indore IIT Bhilai Average CTC 17 LPA 11.22 LPA Seats 53 54 Fees INR 9.15 Lakh INR 4.90 Lakh One of my friends had an option between Mechanical at IIT Indore and CS at a new IIT. He chose Mechanical at IIT Indore. Judging by his experience it is safe to say that he made the right decision at least for 2-3 more years.  The choice is up to you if you would rather trade off on the branch or on the institution. If you are confident you can secure a good future from the limited opportunities a new IIT can offer, you should go for it.Read more

Ques. What should I take, metallurgy and material science at IIT Indore or electrical at IIT Bhilai?

● Top Answer By Nivedita Trivedi on 17 Jun 23

Ans. I think the branch matters more than the institute and that being said personally I feel IIT Bhilai Electrical is a better option than IIT Indore Material Science. The small batch size enables you to make the most out of the opportunities and resources. The points below further prove my opinion  Here is a small list of things why you should consider IIT Bhilai: The professors come from IIT Hyderabad, one of the most reputed and well-regarded new IITs. The fractal system is followed here giving you a more flexible academic palette.  The core subjects are introduced in the first semester itself so that students can identify their interests early.  IIT Bhilai EE lab is one of the very few labs in India which is Cloud Connected. There are 20 All-in-ones that have 8-core i7 processors in the EE lab. The institute has vibrant campus life with dynamic student activities going on such as 6 cultural clubs and 3 tech clubs. The Electronics Club of IIT Bhilai Is well-equipped and enables you to experiment with various modules like GPS module, GPRS module, accelerometer, etc Overall, taking IIT Bhilai will not disappoint you and you will have a plethora of opportunities here.Read more
