I didnt applied for any other colleges other than some iits which were iit bombay, kanpur, roorkee, guwahati. Just these four and nothing because i got a decent rank in JEE Adv 2025. No i didnt get rejection from any college with my rank in jee main and advanced 2025 The admission process is straight like 1) JEE main 2) JEE Advanced 3) Josaa counselling Cutoff for top seven iits is higher than all other iits neans that you cant get into top seven just by qualifying jee advanced, you must have a good rank.

IIT ROORKEE - A SCRUPULOUS REVIEW

Admission:

I took part in jossa councelling and got it . I was happy with any of seven old iits . In better way , i would be happy in going any top iit. Moreover i choose it because of it's weather and location. Rest all things are similar to all top iits. Nothing is less in iit roorkee. You have to give jee main then jee advanced. If you get good rank , you will get this college. You will have to get air under 5000 to get in iit roorkee or any top iit.

As we know IIT ROORKEE is one of the oldest engineering college in while asia and has a very good alumini connection and placement record so i chose it and it is also closer to my home. To get into IIT's you have give jee mains and then advance and then you get your college according to your rank. I had a rank of 9236 out of 15 lakh students who applied originally so yeah it's pretty tough to get into .

I sat in councelling and applies for all top 7 IITs. I choose IIT Roorkee because it fall in my ranking criteria. No, I dint get rejection from other colleges apart from the counceling one. What are the fundamentals of the counselling for admission for an MTech in IIT Roorkee (as they send call letters a to lot more students than are required?

Most branches conduct direct counseling without any official written test or interview.

Every department is assigned a fixed time slot for counseling and you have to attend the counseling of the department you have applied for.
Candidates are summoned on the basis of their GATE score/rank
First, students belonging to the SC/ST/OBC category are counseled. Those with a good rank are eligible to sit in General Category.
Once the reserved category counseling has been wrapped, GC students are called.
Anyone who is unable to get a seat can fill out a form for waitlisted candidates to be eligible for further rounds. Submit your DD along with it.
Any vacancy will be filled with the first candidate on the waitlist on the basis of rank. Two rounds will be conducted similarly.
Lastly, the Spot round is held in July to fill the remaining vacancies.

Here are a few points of caution one should consider regarding counseling

Your branch preference cannot be altered once you have filled out the application form. For instance, if you chose VLSI>Communication and then want to opt for Communication despite getting a seat in VLSI, it won’t be possible.
Assemble all necessary documents including DD and photographs in case you get a seat.

It’s important to note that not all students summoned for counseling get a seat.

Which college should I choose between IIT Roorkee and IIM Sirmaur for MBA?

I don’t even need to ponder over this question for a long time. The answer is very simple. You should choose IIT Roorkee over IIM Sirmaur for MBA. The reason being its new establishment. People don’t care if you are an IIM student unless you belong to the older ones. The new IIMs are yet to make a mark in the industry especially the likes of IIM Jammu and Sirmaur.

IIT Roorkee on the other hand is very good at placements and peer learning. Given the current situation of both institutes, IIT Roorkee is definitely the better option. The IIM tag offered by Sirmaur lacks credibility and even if it will be beneficial, it will be after some years and not right away.

What is done in counselling at the IIT Roorkee MTech admission?

Counseling at IIT Roorkee is done through a number of steps given below

You will receive emails regarding the documents you need to bring along with you. These include marks sheets and college certificates.
The college fees will be specified in the mail. Make a demand draft and bring it along with you.
In case, you opt out of the college, your fees will be refunded.
You will then have to visit IIT Roorkee on the date specified in the mail along with all the documents.
Students are summoned branch-wise. Everyone has to fill 2 forms, one containing your personal details while the other will need your demand draft details.
One by one the students are called upon the stage on the basis of their gate score. Students are allotted seats in their desired specialization, provided that the seats are available
Those who are unable to get their desired branch have 2 options; either withdraw themselves from the counseling process or submit their demand draft as an eligibility criterion for continuation in the counseling process in case of availability of seats later on.

All documents are verified well before submission of the demand draft. To be eligible for further rounds, one needs to submit his demand draft.

Let’s compare both colleges on the basis of some parameters-

Brand image- Both colleges have good brand value and image as one is IIT and the other is IIM. Both of the colleges will give you good opportunities.
Placements- Both colleges offer 100% placements. The highest package for IIM Jammu is 64 LPA while for IIT Roorkee is 27.94 LPA. The average package for IIM Jammu is 16.50 LPA and for IIT Roorkee is 18.34 LPA.
Batch size - The batch size of IIT Roorkee is 66 whereas the batch size of IIM Jammu is 295

On the basis of the above parameters, I would suggest you go for IIT Roorkee.
