IIT Roorkee, has started PhD admissions for the 2025–26 session. Read to know more.

The Department of Management Studies (DOMS), Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee, has invited online applications for its PhD program for the academic year 2025–26.
The application window is open till October 31, 2025 (5:00 pm). Candidates who qualify as per the Common Minimum Eligibility Criteria (CMEC) can apply through the official portal.
The academic registration will take place on January 8, 2026, followed by the commencement of classes from January 12, 2026.

IIT Roorkee PhD Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the Common Minimum Eligibility Criteria (CMEC) and department-specific requirements to apply for the DOMS PhD program.
For Master’s Degree Holders:
- General, GEN-EWS, OBC: Minimum CGPA of 6.0 on a 10-point scale or 60% marks.
- SC/ST/PwD: Minimum CGPA of 5.5 on a 10-point scale or 55% marks.
- Must have qualified a national-level test such as GATE, CEED, JEST, UGC-NET, CSIR-NET (including lectureship/PhD) or hold a national fellowship.
Exemption:
- Candidates with B.Tech. or M.Sc. from MoE-funded Technical Institutions (erstwhile CFTIs) and a CGPA of 8.0 or above are exempted from the national test requirement.
For 4-Year Bachelor’s Degree (Non-CFTI) Holders:
- Minimum CGPA of 7.5 or 75% marks.
- Must have qualified a national-level test such as GATE, CEED, JEST, UGC-NET, or CSIR-NET.
For IIT Graduates (B.Tech. or Master’s):
- Candidates with CGPA of 8.0 and above are exempted from national-level test qualification.
For Medical Graduates:
- MBBS, BAMS, BHMS, or BDS: Minimum CGPA of 6.0 or 60% marks; exempted from national-level test requirements.
- MS/MD degree holders: Exempted from both CGPA and test requirements.
- Candidates with overseas medical degrees must qualify the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination or equivalent conducted by the National Board of Examination (NBE).
How to get Admission in IIT Roorkee PhD 2025-26
The admission process for the PhD program at DOMS, IIT Roorkee, involves multiple stages to ensure transparency and merit-based selection. Candidates are first required to submit the online application form through the official IIT Roorkee website before the prescribed deadline.
Following submission, applications will be shortlisted based on eligibility, academic background, and performance in qualifying examinations. Shortlisted candidates may then be invited for a written test or personal interview conducted by the Department of Management Studies.
The final selection will depend on the candidate’s overall academic merit, test or interview performance, and availability of seats in the chosen research area.
At the time of admission, candidates must carry essential documents, including the printed copy of the application form, marksheets and certificates of all qualifying examinations (10th, 12th, bachelor’s, and master’s), and qualifying exam certificates such as GATE, NET, CEED, or JEST, if applicable.
Additionally, candidates need to produce their category certificate (for GEN-EWS, OBC, SC, ST, or PwD), a valid photo ID proof, passport-size photographs, and a medical certificate, if required.
