IIT Jodhpur: Admission 2025, Fees, Courses, Cutoff, Ranking, Placement

I would like to compare the top NITs with new IITs like IIT Jodhpur on several parameters, first talking about the placements as that is your biggest concern. By new IITs here I mean IIT Jodhpur and its contemporary IITs.

• Placements- Initially, the top NITs were a lot better in terms of placements. However, new IITs have shown tremendous growth and their placements have come at par with the top NITs. For 2023 B.Tech placements, the highest package offered at IIT Jodhpur stood at INR 53 LPA, the average package stood at INR 21.30 LPA and the median package stood at INR 16.50 LPA.

• Campus Life- Both the top NITs and new IITs like IIT Jodhpur have a great campus life. Now that the new IITs have their own permanent campuses, they offer their students all the facilities.

• Brand Value- Surely the new IITs do not carry as great a reputation as the old established IITs. However, the new IITs offer you the IIT tag which has a great reputation both inside and outside India.

• Branch Choice- It is always better to choose the branch that you will enjoy studying. If you get a good branch at an NIT/new IIT, choose that instead of a mediocre branch at an old IIT. This opinion, however, is highly subjective. Some of my friends believe quite the opposite.

• Alumni Network- The top NITs are way older than the new IITs. That is why their alumni network is way stronger.

I would say that unlike in the past, today both old NITs and new IITs are at par. You should consider all the above factors and also your locational preference before arriving at a decision. One of my seniors told me that new IITs are growing tremendously and will soon outperform the top NITs at this rate.

Evaluating and choosing colleges based on NIRF rankings is purely illogical as the criteria these ranking bodies consider are unrelated to your degree. Rather, you should consider the facilities provided by the institute and your personal preferences. That being said, IIT Jodhpur is a great choice among the aforementioned institutes. 

• Placements: IIT Jodhpur placement scenario is like no other new IIT even giving an edge to the old IITs. IIT Jodhpur's average package is INR 17 LPA and the highest is INR 40 LPA. 
• Infrastructure: IIT Jodhpur has a well-developed and modern infrastructure among all IITs. In fact, its campus design won the award for best campus design and is one of the biggest campuses among all IITs spreading across more than 800 acres.
• Facilities: The institute boasts well-equipped labs and departments. IIT Patna has the fastest commercially available AI solution in the world, the DGX-2. 
• Batch size: The small batch size ensures more resources per student. The resources you cannot use at other IITs during your UG years can be easily accessed here. At IIT Patna students working on projects in AI and ML access the computers to conduct research.
• New branches: IIT Patna likes to keep up with the industry trends and has launched new branches like AI and Data Science, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Civil Engineering. 
• Hostel: The hostel facilities are no less and to get single AC rooms and decent food in the mess.
• Campus life: IIT Patna organizes the biggest cultural fest in the North-Western part of India called Ignus which invites big stars. 
• Course structure: The course structure is relatively flexible and students are free to choose any interdepartmental course for electives with very very few exceptions.
• Extracurricular activities: IIT Patna targets the holistic development of its students and thus importance is given to cultural activities, dance, drama, and music clubs.

Overall, IIT Jodhpur offers all the necessary resources and opportunities to make your education here worthwhile.

In terms of a greater reputation and recognition across the nation, NIT Warangal is a winner. However, there are certain points about IIT jodhpur that you should consider-

1. IIT Jodhpur has had its own permanent campus for a few years now. It has newly built infrastructure, A/C rooms, sports facilities, and other amenities.
2. Since the labs are newly built, they are among the best and second best in the country with the latest technology and new instruments.
3. There is a well established student society and a strong extracurricular base.
4. The alumni are studying in Ivy League colleges like Harvard, Purdue, etc. and many are working in highly reputed MNCs like McKinsey, Google, Amazon etc.
5. Campus placements are quite promising with offers from top companies like Amazon, Microsoft, and Google, Morgan Stanley, Arcesium, Works Applications etc. Electrical and Mechanical students receive high packages from ISRO and PSUs like BPCL etc.
6. IIT Jodhpur students ace exams like GATE, UPSC, CAT, GRE, etc. The students also bring honor to the institution in Gsoc, ACM-ICPC etc. 
7. The newly designed curriculum is well-integrated with yearly industrial practice, which you get to opt into from the first year.
8. The faculty is well-learned and the professors are themselves alumni of prestigious national and international universities. They have publications in reputed conferences and encourage the students to indulge in research and get published in the second or third year.

Thus, IIT Jodhpur is as good an institution as NIT Warangal and even surpasses the latter in certain respects. I would thus suggest you to go for IIT Jodhpur.

I am assuming that you have no specific branch preferences and are just confused between the institutes. In that case, the factors affecting your decision are campus life, facilities, infrastructure, and placements. Consider the table below 

Considering everything, IIT Jodhpur is definitely better than NIT Kurukshetra. You will get associated with the much coveted IIT tag and also will have a diverse peer pool. The institute attracts the best crowd and you will be surrounded by some of the finest minds of the country.

The intense competition will challenge your inner self and you will become the best version of yourself. The campus life here is very vibrant and the facilities are great too.

Here are some pros of joining IIT Jodhpur-

1. It offers higher packages and more exposure than MNIT.
2. It carries the ‘IIT’ tag which will help you for your higher studies/career. 
3. An IIT offers you much more freedom to explore your interests and passions. You may end up in a non-engineering field post graduation and do wonders at it. 
4. You’ll thoroughly enjoy your four years at IIT Jodhpur with all the freedom and exposure given to you.
5. The IIT Jodhpur campus is spread across 852 acres. You’ll get a single AC hostel room.
6. Like every other college, you’ll get to choose from numerous societies and clubs like photography, quiz club, astronomy, programming, etc. 

For placements, campus life, and exposure, IIT Jodhpur is a better choice than MNIT Jaipur. But you also need to consider the branch that you are getting at each of them. 

Branch change from EE to CSE is easiest at IIT Jodhpur. Here, students who have scored a 9+ CGPA can change their branch as there are no additional criteria. If you are talking about an easier branch change from EE to CSE, it would definitely be IIT Jodhpur, as here there is a rule that if you score a CGPA of 9+ then you can change your branch to any branch of your choice.

When my friend was a student at IIT Mandi a few years ago, she told me that 10 students from the EE branch changed their branch to CSE and a total of about 18 students from other branches changed their branch to CSE, and about 10 students from different branches to EE. Surprisingly enough, the last student to change his branch to CSE had a CGPA of 8.67.

Thus, branch upgradation is easier at IIT Jodhpur than at IIT Mandi.
