IIT Roorkee Placement 2025: Highest Package, Average Package, Top Recruiters

This year the placement percentage for MTech CSE stood at 80% with a batch size of 44. Most companies offer packages above INR 10 LPA. The median salary stood at INR 15 LPA.

Anyone with good coding skills can opt for this course and land a good package. You can even learn coding during the 2 years of your MTech program.

It’s sad to say but MTech students do not attract very good companies for placements. The companies prefer students with experience. BTech students prepare well in advance either for MBA or coding to get placements in IT or banking companies. MTech students are not allowed to do so and thus are unable to secure good packages.

Now the question arises, what should MTech students do to guarantee a safe career? Well, I will suggest that they prepare for GATE again and clear PSU or some other Engineering service. 

You can even enter Academia but the salary packages will also be average. Another option is to go for a Ph.D. but this too has no career prospects. The most guaranteed way is to clear PSU.

The primary factor to judge the credibility of an institute is to analyze the placement trends of the Institute. Through this analysis, you can determine the number of companies that visit the campus for placements and the kind of profiles that are offered by them, the median CTC, and other factors.

The following analysis is just to give you an idea as it is from 2021.

• Electrical Engineering Median CTC: INR 20 LPA
• Electrical Engineering Highest CTC: INR 45.6 LPA

Overall, the highest international and domestic package offered during IIT Roorkee placements 2022-23 placements stood at INR 1.06 crore per annum and INR 1.30 crore per annum, respectively. More than 365 offers were made during the first day itself with the total number of offers standing at 500. The top recruiters included leading companies such as Tata Steel, Uber, and Bajaj Auto.

IIT Roorkee is well known for its excellent CS placements with many reputed companies offering high packages. Since the institute does not reveal official data on branch-wise placements, my friends who were students in the CS branch shared some updates regarding the same.

• The highest international salary package offered is 2.7 CPA
• The highest domestic salary package offered is 1.5 CPA
• The average salary package offered in the IT sector is 18.5 LPA
• The median salary stood at INR 16.7 LPA 
• Top recruiting companies are Adobe, Paypal, Google, Microsoft, etc.
• The top roles offered are SDE, data analyst, and product management.

Overall the placements of the CS branch at IIT Roorkee are superior to all the other branches making it one of the most coveted branches of the Institute.

By BCGL MCminsey and JP Morgan, you are referring to Consulting and Finance companies basically.

Consulting: Consulting giants like BCG and McKinsey usually visit only the top institutes and choose only the cream candidates. This is because of the nature of the profession that requires only the best candidate. These candidates should have had an excellent rank which is possible only in the top IITs like Bombay and Delhi. The peer quality is much better at these institutes with some who have won International Physics, Chemistry, Maths, and Astronomy Olympiads, played sports at the National level, and won quizzes & debating events nationally.

Finance: These companies look for an extensive knowledge base in Finance and excellent Mathematical aptitude. These finance enthusiasts are rarely there in Roorkee owing to its laid-back attitude. Not many are able to crack CFA/FRM while there are many who have at IIT KGP. The lack of enthusiasm and preparation on the part of the students has resulted in top finance companies like JP Morgan, Barclays, Deutsche Bank, etc. 

Some other major reasons why these companies don’t visit Roorkee for placements are

• Students at IIT Roorkee are not well prepared in advance for placements. They have no idea regarding case studies and guesstimates. Rarely does anyone prepare for the GD round
• The resume preparation is not given due importance and students take this lightly 
• The company’s PPT is given very less enthusiasm 
• The seniors don’t provide enough assistance and overall the culture at IIT Roorkee is very laid back.

Given the opportunity, some might clear the interview of these big firms but because of the overall preparation of the branch, all the students are deprived of this opportunity.

The best way to secure a graduate trainee job at flip may through campus placements at IIT Roorkee is to improve your CGPA. But if you are a 3rd-year student, you are past the stage to improve your CGPA. Here are a few other ways

Written Test: 

This is the first and the most important step for getting shortlisted. The written test comprises questions very similar to that of the CAT. It’s recommended to do some quantitative-based test exercises and practice some puzzles. 

Group Discussion (GD): 

To prepare for this round, brush up on your current affairs, and read a little of the newspaper daily so that you are aware of the current happenings. Perform a mock GD for practice. The judges are looking for candidates with excellent leadership skills and creative ideas. Don’t be aggressive at all while delivering your opinions.

Personal Interview (PI): 

The panelists usually question you about your resume details so be well prepared for that. Make sure your resume is genuine and has no bluff. In this round, your confidence, ability to handle stress, teamwork, and analytical skills are evaluated. You can also be asked to solve a puzzle or case study. Having full knowledge of the company, and its recent development is an added bonus in the round. 

Lastly, be confident while answering everything thrown at you and you are good to go.

IIT Roorkee Placements 2023 is still conducting its placement drive. The highest CTC was recorded at INR 1.3 CPA while the highest International CTC stood at INR 1.06 CPA.

It’s important to note that these highest packages may seem huge but in reality, are misleading. Considering the currency change and tax rate the actual in-hand salary is nothing more than 40 lakhs in CS while 33 Lakhs in Chemical.
