Earth Science: Which is better at the IIT Roorkee: geological technology or geophysical technology?

Before I talk about the credibility of both branches, let’s understand the basic difference between them. Geology is basically an observational science that tries to explain various phenomena and processes taking place at or near the surface of the Earth. On the other hand, Geophysics uses physical tools like Gravity, Potential, Seismic, Magnetic, etc. to study the interior of the Earth. It’s more like a branch of Geology itself. The coursework in Geological technology covers topics related to rocks, minerals, ores, volcanoes, mountains, oceans, glaciers, sediments, petroleum reservoirs, landslides, earthquakes, geoinformatics, and much more. The curriculum is similar to that of Applied Geology. The coursework in Geophysics comprises basic geological concepts along with detailed Geophysics concepts. Both branch students can opt for interdisciplinary courses as departmental electives. This initiative helps the students to gain an overall knowledge of Earth Sciences. Placements-wise, both offer similar opportunities with the core recruiter being the same; the Energy Sector - Oil and Coal industry. Mineral exploration also offers core jobs to these two branches. The opportunities offered are equal and any difference stems from the individual's performance and not the branch’s credibility. The majority of students are inclined towards research with the Geology students having an edge over Geophysical students in this aspect. The fees is subjected to change so i can't state whether it increases each year but yes it increases after 2-3 years by some amount and the college release fees for each on their website so you from there from year 2024 to 2025 i will let what it was and there is some fees which is charged only for 1st semester and some of it is refundable too . For year wise we have to pay 291600. We have to pay the fee in two semesters. Tution fees is 200000 per year and the remaining fees belongs to hostel,mess, development fees,lab fees ,etc. For management like sc,st there is no tution waiver .

There is strict attendance policy, so you to attend at least 70-75% classes. Otherwise you are not allowed to sit in exams.

Tution is comparatively high as it is 1lac per semester while hostel and others fees is combined 30-40 thousands. But are Tution Fee scholarships available. If annual family income is less than 1 lac then you tution fee is 0 ans if annual income is 1-5lac then tution fee is 1/3(3333.33 Rs). For SC St students there is no tution fee. And also there are some scholarships which gives you some money for expenses like MCM scholarship at IITR which gives 10-12K per annum.

Tution fee for the btech is 2.3 lakhs for first year and for reservation there is no tution fee there will be many scholarships available for the students like national scholarships which will 50 k per annum

My 2 years experience in IIT ROORKEE.

The tution fee is decided by institution and it rearly have any fee hike. complete cost of your degree will cost around 1200000 but you get plenty of scholarships here so your degree can be completed nearly in 5-6 lakhs given that you get those scholarships.

Students can get upto 100% waiver on tution fees easily if their family income is less than 1 lakh in a year. My complete cost for the course is 12 lakh for B.Tech. and 1 lakh for M.Tech. Tution Fee waiver,MCM scholarship.

Insight of IIT-R's campus life, placements and internship opportunities

In IIT-R , tution fee is 100000 rupees per semester (excluding category wise fees deduction) which is quite satisfactory as compared to the career opportunities we get on the campus . There are many internships, placement and scholarships programs going on campus .

fee is a bit high for a middle class family but the scholarship opportunities are quite good here .Based on Financial background and also on performance one can get scholarship easily here .Various scholarship are there namely MCM etc.

Very good place to build career.

The fees are high for low and middle-class students. But there are also opportunities for scholarships in college. E.g. tuition fee waiver, MCM, etc. Students can also work on research projects with their professors and can get a stipend.

IITR - Leading the Future.

The fee structure is very similar for all the branches in Institute, you will get a free weaver according to your annual family income, as given below. Income <1,00,000 per annum, full tution fee weaver Income >1,00,000 & 5,00,000, 2/3rd of tution fee weaver SC and ST students get 100% tution fee, weaver For dual degree programs, this is valid till 4th year. Other than this, there are many other fee weavers available for students.
