IIT Roorkee B.Tech Civil Engineering: Fees 2026, Course Duration, Dates, Eligibility

I am a B.Tech Civil student at IIT Roorkee. Here’s a comparison between the two options-

One important thing that my friends told me is that the Mechanical Engineering Department at IIT BHU is one of the strictest departments in India. It makes the students question their own potential. The department professors are very strict and the coursework is extremely rigorous. The students are given assignments and projects which they have to complete within a day.

I would suggest you choose IIT Roorkee Civil as it offers the same facilities and placements as IIT BHU Mechanical. Moreover, the Civil department at IITR is not as strict as the Mechanical department at IIT BHU.

• During the 2023 placements,76.98% students of Civil engineering got placed from IIT BHU. The highest CTC recorded was INR 1.15 CPA.The median package was INR 15.75 LPA, and the average package was INR 19.09 LPA.
• As for IIT Roorkee, 84% civil students got placed and the highest package was recorded at INR 1.3 CPA.

Both IIT BHU and IIT Roorkee offer good placements to the students of Civil Engineering branch. The 2023 placement figures for both institutions are quite promising.

I am a second year B.Tech Electrical Engineering student at IIT Roorkee. The NIRF 2024 ranking of IIT Roorkee and other colleges is given below:

• IIT Bombay- 2
• IIT Kharagpur- 3
• IIT Roorkee- 6
• BITS Pilani- Not Available (2023 Ranking- 25)

Though all the options mentioned by you are equally good, I am mentioning below the highlights of B.Tech Electrical at IIT Roorkee-

1. The Electrical Engineering department of IIT Roorkee offers excellent placements. Top core, finance, and consulting companies visit the department for recruitments. 

During 2023, IIT Roorkee recorded the highest package of INR 1.3 CPA, and the highest international package of INR 1.06 CPA. Total 63 recruiters visited the campus with 500 job offers. Some of the top recruiters for the placement season were- BCG, Bajaj Auto, Flipkart, and Tata Steel. 

During 2024, Flipkart offered a package of INR 34 LPA, and the position of Software Developer. This offer was open to B.Tech CSE, Electrical and ECE students. 

Myntra offered a INR 30 LPA package for the role of Software Development Engineer, and this offer was open to students of B.Tech (CSE, ECE, EE) & MSM. These are just two examples. 

2. Apart from placements, IIT Roorkee offers top class research facilities to its students. 
3. With the rise of technologies like IoT, AI, and renewable energy, electrical engineers are in high demand in the current market.

The choice would ultimately depend upon your goals and interests, but I can assure you that B.Tech Electrical at IIT Roorkee will provide you with great academics, research opportunities, and placements.

Choosing between BITS Goa CS and IIT Roorkee (Civil or Chemical branch) majorly depends on different factors including your preference, interest, and career goals.

• IIT Roorkee is a better option as it is one of the oldest engineering institutions in India with a great reputation for its academic engineering programs.
• The course fee for the first year of pursuing Civil or Chemical Engineering from IIT Roorkee is around 2.3 Lakhs.
• The average package offered to students is around INR 18 LPA with the highest package being INR 1.3 CPA.

• College wise - IIT Roorkee > IIT BHU > IIT Mandi
• Branch wise - Electrical > Civil > Mechanical

However, this is a popular trend, and you don't have to follow it. It is best to make a decision based on your own individual preferences.

First, you should make up your mind regarding the domain you want to continue with.

• Older IITs like Roorkee boast a longer legacy and are highly esteemed for imparting quality Engineering education. 
• IIT Roorkee is ranked 5th in the NIRF ranking with IIT Mandi at 33rd and IIT BHU at 15th.
• IIT Roorkee has better teaching and helping staff.
• IIT BHU has a bigger campus size of 1300 acres compared to IIT Mandi's 538 acres and IIT Roorkee’s 358 acres. 
• IIT Roorkee Civil has a Median Package of 19 LPA with IIT Mandi Electrical at 20 LPA and IIT BHU Mechanical at 19 LPA.

Quick Comparison: IIT Bombay vs IIT Roorkee (Civil Engineering Focus)

Opt for IIT Bombay if you prefer a vibrant, energetic campus life, huge festivals, and more exposure opportunities.

Pick IIT Roorkee if you prefer a less hectic environment, rich heritage campus, and more established core civil engineering traditions.

The 2024 B.Tech cutoff is not yet released for IIT Roorkee.
