IIT BHU Faculties : Students' Opinion

AI-Generated Summary based on 779 Reviews

The faculty at IIT BHU is highly qualified, with all professors holding PhDs, many from prestigious national and international institutions. They are experienced, with some having over 30 years in teaching and research. The faculty is supportive, approachable, and encourages innovation, often engaging students in research projects that can be mentioned in resumes. However, there is a noted shortage of younger faculty members, and some professors are perceived as lacking in teaching skills.

The student-to-faculty ratio is approximately 22:1, with 324 faculty members for around 7,000 students. The course curriculum is relevant, though sometimes considered outdated, with a requirement of 75% attendance. The ratio of faculty to student is generally 1:120 and each teacher have 3 TA's (in tutorial class and quiz). MOst of them are approachable and encourage you to ask them more . We have 2 exams in a semester , one mid sem and one end sem along with some labs and assignments . Exams are usually upto standards , if u are consistent u gonna do very well , or else one week also gonna save u ;) . Some subjects are tough specially mechanical subjects , e.g Engineering mechanics is a course in first sem and in my class around 40 students got failed in that . Course structures are well planned just like other IITs.

The faculty-to-student ratio is quite low. Although the relations between them are quite good. The professors are supportive. I liked Ankit Arora sir because he encouraged students to do research in the core find good opportunities. I didn't like Atul Sir because I didn't understand what he used to teach in his class. The exams are notes-based and are quite easy to score in. Very few fail the exams.

In our college some faiculties s are chill and some faculties are very rude. I tell you a latest story , in my second sem I have a subject called engineering mechanics his professor was very strict he didn't give marks to students easily in last sem he failed 45 students of civil branch . Our seniors told that he is very dangerous professor. In my second sem I also have a subject called philosophy in that subject professor is rude he gave students only c- grade . It affects overall cpi . Some faculties are nice like our thermo professor. In our college every semester is of 6 months and mid sem exam starts approximately after 1.5 months and end sem after 4 months . If you study for whole sem you have no fear for exam . Some exam are easy some are hard and some subject made only to decrease students cpi.

Aarush SinghLives in Kanpur

My brother pursued his B.Tech from IIT BHU a few years back. He often talks about Dr. SK Sharma of the department of Mechanical Engineering. Sir is an extremely honest and hardworking person, and a teacher in the true sense of the word.

He treats his students like his own children, and spends all the money received from the department in providing equipment for their projects. Working under him is an honor. He helps his students in every possible way, and suggests amazing project ideas with a lot of enthusiasm. He motivates his students to publish their research papers on great platforms, and helps them in every possible way.

How is Electronics Engineering at IIT-BHU in terms of course structure, faculty and placements?

Oindrila BoseStudied at IIT BHU (2019)

My friend is a recent graduate of Electronics and communication engineering from IIT(BHU) Varanasi. Here are a few highlights pertaining to the course based on his review of the same.

  • Course structure: The curriculum is regularly updated to meet the industry standard and relevancy. The course structure is designed in such a way that most course-related subjects are introduced in the first year itself. Additionally, there are some CSE subjects to expand the job opportunities for the students.
  • Faculty: Sadly, the faculty here is very lacking. Some even lack the most basic knowledge and just teach the students in their bookish language. The pedagogy adopted is old school bringing down the standard of education here. A few teachers recently joined and brought about slight changes in the pedagogy and the citation is expected to get better.
  • Placements: Based on the data I got from my friend, the BTech ECE average package was INR 27.73 LPA. Usually, IIT BHU ECE average package is in the range of 20-22 LPA. Core companies like Nvidia and Texas Instruments hired many but top companies like Microsoft have no or fewer openings for CSE students.

IIT BHU is a good college if you are willing to do self-study and not depend on the faculty.
