Ques. How Rain rainwater Harvesting is done in CUSAT?
Ans. The South-West monsoon usually arrives in Kerala by May-end, it is time to devise effective strategies for rainwater harvesting and conservation. The initiative undertaken in this regard by CUSAT is a classic instance of how nature's bountiful resources can be put to optimum use to tackle water scarcity. In 2012, the Cusat campus faced a grave water crisis and had to rely on tankers to meet its water requirements. The issue prompted the university to look for solutions. Later, a decision was taken to construct a pond on the campus. Ever since the pond - constructed by the Engineering Department of the university - became a reality, water shortage became a thing of the past. The pond, with a top diameter of 47.5 m, a bottom diameter of 32 m and a maximum flood level of 8.5 m, was commissioned in 2017. The pond, which has a natural base, also acts as a groundwater recharger.
Ques. What is the minimum Eligibility Criteria for B.Tech Course in Marine Engineering?
Ans. For getting admission in CUSAT BTech Marine Engineering Course, Candidates must Pass in Higher Secondary Examination conducted by Board of Higher Secondary Examinations, Government of Kerala OR Senior School Certificate Examination conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education OR Indian School Certificate Examination, (Class XII) conducted by Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi OR any other examination accepted as equivalent thereto with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English as separate subjects with a PCM average of not less than 60% marks and minimum 50% for Mathematics alone. Candidates should have passed English at the 10th or 12th Standards with 50% marks (No relaxation to SC/ST and SEBC Candidates). Candidates seeking admission to B.Tech. Marine Engineering Programme must be medically fit, including eyesight and hearing, as prescribed in the Merchant Shipping (Medical Examination) Rules, 2000, as amended. There shall be no evidence of any morbid condition of either eye or of the lids of either eye that may be liable to risk of aggravation or recurrence. Normal colour vision shall be tested by the Ishihara Test Chart. Distance Vision unaided 0.5*(6/12) in each eye or 0.67*(6/9) in better eye and 0.33*(6/18) in another eye.
