- The area span of the campus is absolutely breathtaking. The trees, the nature everything is so mesmerizing.
- Cochin University comprises of variety of people from different parts of India and the world.
- The Student have different groups like IGBC, IEEE, TEDX CUSAT, SAE CUSAT etc... . In this SAE CUSAT has different subdivisions where it even has a Formula Car Making Team.

- Not very strict in academic matters. Students have anough freedom as needed.

- Extra academic activites are not there. Most events are just same thing repeated and clubs and other hobby groups aren't there.
- The girl to boy ratio is quite low it is more in some departments but mostly there are more boys in each class.
- Politics are very much a part of student life. While you do get frequent strikes and days off there are fights and other problems due to them.

CUSAT SOE is a better option than GEC Kannur/NSS Palakkad, the notable differences are not below:

Analyzing the placement scenario of CSE in SOE CUSAT through the statistics is not right because the figures don’t convey the exact scenario. This is mainly because of the improving crowd quality and cutoffs. Additionally, the institute has witnessed top-notch companies like Oracle, Google, and other e-commerce companies like Amazon, Flipkart, and Snapdeal.
But the students fail to secure good packages because the ones that are good in programming fail to meet the CGPA cutoff while the ones that quality the cutoff don’t clear the interview due to poor programming skills. However, some exceptionally good students get placed in companies like IBM with around INR 36 LPA.

Compare and contrast life in SOE, CUSAT and NIT-Calicut?
I couldn’t get admission at NIT Calicut and ended up pursuing my B.Tech from SOE, CUSAT. I have many friends who are studying at NIT Calicut currently and on the basis of the gathered information, here is a comparison of life at SOE, CUSAT and NIT Calicut-
- As compared to other Kerala Engineering Colleges, CUSAT has a vast syllabus with in-depth study of various topics. The NITs, however, have an even more vast syllabus and the difficulty level is higher. At the NITs, the syllabus is spread across semesters in a proper manner, but the CUSAT students feel burdened when their exams approach because of an overwhelming syllabus and lack of proper guidance.
- If an NIT student fails an exam, they have to attend the classes for that subject again and if they do not limit their backlogs, they have to spend another year completing their degree. CUSAT does not take your backlogs as seriously and many students end up with multiple backlogs as a result.
- At NITs, your grades play a huge role during the placement season. At SOE, CUSAT, no one gives importance to your scores.
- Core companies visit the NIT campuses in great numbers, offering high packages to the top scorers in the batch. At SOE, CUSAT very few core companies visit the campus and only a handful of top scorers are allowed to sit for these interviews.
Thus, without a doubt, I would say that NIT Calicut should be your first preference for a B.Tech as it is better than SOE, CUSAT on different parameters.

The highest CTC offered this year to the student of this branch is around INR 12 LPA and the lowest CTC offered is INR 4 LPA. Companies such as Think Gas, Reliance, L&T, Essar Steel, and a few PSUs visit the campus placements of the CUSAT.
What are the major problems at SOE CUSAT?
SOE CUSAT doesn’t have major drawbacks. In past, there have been strikes and complaints about hygiene-related issues. Students face problems because of political activities at times. In terms of academics, it's difficult to get good marks in internals.
These are the common problems for CUSAT. These problems don’t create any major issues and the institute trying to overcome these drawbacks.
Which should I choose, CUSAT-SOE for mechanical engineering or NIT Jamshedpur for mechanical engineering?
You should choose NIT Jamshedpur for Mechanical Engineering. It has an impeccable Mechanical faculty. The professors have years of experience in the field. The placements are more competitive at NITs. NIT Jamshedpur placement highlights for 2021 show around 96% of Mechanical students got placed with an average CTC of INR 7.3 LPA. Vedanta Ltd, Tata Steel, Royal Enfield, etc. are some of the major recruiters for the branch.
Which is better, FISAT or CUSAT SOE (mechanical)?

CUSAT SOE Mechanical is better than FISAT. It is among the most reputed technological institutes in the region. CUSAT offers excellent facilities and opportunities. The Mechanical department has a brilliant faculty base.
According to CUSAT placements of recent years, the average CTC for Mechanical branch is around INR 5 LPA. Godrej, L&T, Vedanta, etc. are among the core companies that recruit through the campus drive. PSU and IT companies also recruit Mechanical Students.
What would I get with a rank of 6000 in the CUSAT main campus (SOE)?
Your chances are pretty slim of getting to the main campus. But then you can always take a shot and go sit for the spot rounds that take place. Make sure you don’t miss that.
My friend get into the Mechanical branch even when he had a rank of 8000. It was even before the NRI quota was introduced. But as you may understand, this was just an exception in the odds. The competition gets tougher and tougher each year and with your rank, I am really worried you may not end up getting it.
But yes, a silver lining for you would be that you may stand a chance at their second campus and that too, for the IT branch. You have certain possibilities here.
How does a first-year student take a hostel at SOE CUSAT?
One of my friends is from CUSAT SOE. I can provide his experience during his first year at the CUSAT hostel.
- For getting a hostel at CUSAT, you will need to fill an application form available on the website and submit it in the office.
- Earlier the hostels were allocated on the basis of seniority and your distance from the home. But now, you will be given a hostel on the basis of your CAT score and usually, first-year students are allocated first.
- You should make sure that you have submitted your application form before the start of your semesters.
- Although the CAT score is given the first preference, there are other factors like distance from your home state and your performance in academics.
In case you do not get a hostel then you can try outside hostels which are located nearby to the college.
