Gect and me

Student view on course curriculum and exams

I choose the course because I am interested in construction as well as civil departments .the curriculum enables you to understand properly civil aspects and also provides you a basic study so that you can walk up on the journey to understand more of civil aspects you can also pursue Mtecch and then move for further studies or you can work in civil department .area of improvement in the course curriculum which I would like to recommend is the fact that I feel like there is no not much ample amount of time the sems were usually 6 months but now it is like 3 months and everything seems in a haste .talking about the teaching methods I feel like that is not much practicality taught. The timing of exams there are two series examinations and then there is annual examination exams are not that difficult and you can actually you can prepare well for them if you have practiced previous year question papers

Internship opportunity provided by the college

I am currently in the second sem and thus I think that I don't have enough knowledge to comment on the same.i have heard about seniors commenting on lack of internships and thus they approach other companies and establishmeng

Placement provided by the college

Students are available for applying for campus placements in the 6th semester .company that have visited or college involves L and T , visco there had been recent surge in the number of offers made. It depends on the status of differnt companies in that particular year .percentage of students getting placed is less may be like 30-40 percentage .I plan on pursuing masters and getting placements via masters or preparing for exams of Kerala government and central government which is ssc and pac

Yearly fees structure and scholarship

The tuition fee is 8825. The rate of Hike of the fees is very less. There has been been any hike in the past two three years different kinds of scholarship for available for students provided by the Kerala government which includes a grands there is also reservations available for a students from backward communities which is the scheduled caste and tribes and their scholarships available for them as well the total cost of education for me also involves hostel facilities which is 6500 per month.E grants provides 8000 rupees which changes according to ur caste and economic status.

College fest and various activities

Technical test of gec Thrissur is named as dhyuthu. it is a very vibrant festival which involves professional shows as well as workshops. We have a very good library in store which provides all the technical books .classrooms are well ventilated and spacious annual sports festival organised in the college every year and students from all the departments compete against each other college also bro also has music band as well as dance with supports the extra curricular activities of students. There is also a pain and paliative care working in the college name the oasis and its supports 200 need the disable children as well as old touch people and NSS is also active in our campus which is the national service camp and students are also awarded Grace marks based on there performance in the NSS campus

Hostel facilities provided by the college

There is a college hostel for both ladies and men and the rooms are very well . The message also working properly. The admissions for the government hostels are done considering the economic conditions as well as distance from the college I wasn't able to get seats in the government hostel so I have rented a PG. My PG provides me a good quality means as well as good facilities and it is located exactly opposite to the college which is in ramavaramapuram Thrissur

Admission process of the college

I am currently studying for btech civil in gect Thrissur .In order to be eligible for this course you have to pass the Kerala entrance examination which is termed as keam.I prepared for the exam via entrance coachings. I had a score of 200 .I was able to get admission in gect Thrissur as the last rank was 11 k for civil .The admission process wasn't that tedious after the keam exam ,allotment options were open on the site of keam .after giving out options of courses and colleges ,a trial allotment was published.i got an admission at nss palakkad in the first allotment which was my 3 rd option and then I got M A college on the 2 nd allotment and then Gect Thrissur on the last allotment.I did join MA college on 2 nd allotment as it is mandatory under the provisions of the exam. This was the only part of the process which I found a little tedious. Then I joined GEct Thrissur on the third and it wasnt a very tedious process.

GEC Thrissur: 6 Answered Questions

Should I join NIT Calicut for Civil Engineering or GEC Thrissur for computer science?

Sayantani Barman
Arnav RoyLives in Kolkata, West Bengal, India

NIT Calicut and GCE Thrissur are the two reputed institutes in Kerala. But NIT Calicut is leading over GCE for some reasons. Let us dive deep into the features of NIT Calicut

Faculty – NIT Calicut is exceptional with well-qualified faculties in all the branches when compared with other institutes.

Placement – Usually, the toppers get placed in major companies with decent salary packages, irrespective of the branch. The average student struggles a lot and needs to put in hard work to get a better placement, especially in the Department of Civil Engineering.

Research – The research possibility is higher for NIT students with a good CGPA abroad. If you are looking for research inside India, it is mandatory to qualify for the GATE examination.

Infrastructure – NIT Calicut is leading in terms of infrastructure compared to GEC. NITC has better machinery and lab facilities.

Overall, NIT Calicut is, comparatively, the best choice for your success.

Which is a better college, GEC Thrissur or CUSAT?

Anurag shrivastavaLives in Cochin

Both GEC Thrissur and CUSAT are good institutions and have their own strengths and weaknesses.

CUSAT is an autonomous university spread across 180 acres. The vast campus and multiple streams within it will allow you to network with people from different educational backgrounds. Also, you will get to attend national level fests and events over there. It has better sports facilities than most Engineering colleges in Kerala. It is in Kalamassery which is near Ernakulam and Kochi, so you will get to enjoy the city life as well. There are non-Keralite students as well at CUSAT. However, the Engineering fees over there is much higher than GEC, Thrissur. Also, it has a tough syllabus for Engineering.

GEC Thrissur’s campus is spread across 75 acres. It has a strong alumni network and it is under the direct control of Kerala Government. You will get ample freedom at GEC. Various cultural events and other activities keep happening within the campus. Its syllabus is easier and its fees are way lower than CUSAT.

Both of these have student groups, organizations and communities like IEEE, TinkerHub, ISTE, SAE, NSS, etc. that will offer you participation in extracurricular activities.

Both the institutions have their own perks. To know more about each, I would suggest you talk to their alumni.

Which is better, a BTech in mechanical engineering from GEC Thrissur or BTech in safety & fire engineering from CUSAT?

Akriti Banerjeelives in New Delhi

There is no better course as the choice of a course depends a lot on one’s preferences and future prospects. You need enough passion to like a course because every course has its good and bad parts.

BTech in Mechanical Engineering should be considered only if you are interested in it genuinely because it’s quite challenging. BTech in Safety and Engineering is mistakenly considered to be the easiest BTech program but the reality is far from this. This course covers topics from Mechanical, Civil, and even Chemical. As a result, this branch ends up being the Jack of all trades but the Master of none. The students of this branch are capable of handling HSE in almost any type of industry.

The placements of the Safety and Fire Engineering program are decent despite the limited opportunities. Companies like Reliance, BPCL, IOCL, ONGC, and VEDANTHA make good offers here.

So my verdict is to go for Mechanical if you are sure about your interest in it else Safety and Fire Engineering is a good choice.

Why do CUSAT and some private colleges in Kerala rank higher than the more difficult to get in colleges- like CET and GEC-Thrissur ?

Arnav RoyLives in Kolkata, West Bengal, India

It’s true that getting admission to CUSAT is easier than colleges like CET and GEC Thrissur. It has provisions for NRI seats and also conducts many spot admissions. The campus is not very disciplined and the increasing cutoffs have resulted in a huge intake recently. The quality of education has been compromised as a result. I think the reason it’s still highly ranked is that these rankings are flawed and manipulated. It’s better not to refer to these rankings while choosing a college.

Personally, I will suggest you choose colleges based on the following preference order

NIT Calicut>CET TRIVANDRUM>GEC THRISSUR>Government Engineering College Kottayam(RIT)>CUSAT>Model Engineering College

As you can see, CUSAT comes much later in the preference list so go for it only if it’s the last option.

Which college has the best chemical engineering department in Kerala: GEC Thrissur, NIT Calicut or TKM College?

Utkarsh KumarB.Tech in Civil Engineer from Government Engineering College, Thrissur (2016)

You should have a clear idea of what you are going to pursue after the four years. This way you can focus on a particular college accordingly for your undergraduate degree.

  1. If you are aspiring to get placed then go for NIT Calicut. Mostly 3 to 5 core companies often visit for chemical engineering branch with very decent packages.
  2. The campus life is worth living at NIT Calicut. You can enjoy various games at the hostel and special evening clubs are designed basically for holistic development.
  3. Another factor that makes NIT Calicut stand out is the politically passive environment where you can fully concentrate on your academics and engross yourself in the academics-related clubs along with some co-curricular activities.

The only disadvantage that NIT Calicut has is the weak alumni network due to the newly formed campus as compared to GEC Thrissur.

Along with the placements, the brand name of NIT when added to your resume can help you immensely for your future professional life. So think twice and consider all the factors before taking final admissions.

Which college should I choose, GEC Thrissur or Amrita University Coimbatore?

Rajashree GhoshStudied at IIJNM Bangalore (2019)

You can go to Amrita University without any doubt. Being a new generation college, people now think differently and do not opt for Government colleges just for their reputation.

A lot of my friends recently graduated from NIT Trichy in CSE while some who graduated from Amrita University are doing quite well.

According to my friend at Amrita, the environment is free and lenient. Furthermore, recently he won the 4th hackathon with his peers (team of 4) and his team was different in all 4 hackathons.

Categories Amrita University
Placement Percentage (overall) 85%
Highest CTC 28 LPA
Average CTC 8-10 LPA
Recruiting Companies Infosys, Amazon, Microsoft, Google, etc.

I hope it would be easier to come to a clear conclusion of which college to opt for. Choose Amrita if you aren’t getting your desired branch in IITs, NITs, or BITS. But, if you opt for Amrita University I assure you, you won’t regret it.
