My college SVNIT.

Companies recruiting from the campus, highest and average package being offered

College placement is very good because the average package is around 10-11 LPA. The students are eligible for campus placement in the 7th semester. There are many companies that visit our college in the placement session. The company names are Reliance, Oracle, Nayara, ONGC, etc. The highest and average package depends upon the company and also the students quality. But this year students get 18.45 LPA as the highest package in the Reliance industry, and 10 LPA is the average package. In this year, 108 students are appearing in the placement session, and around 92 students are getting placements. So 89% of students are getting placements this year. My plan after getting the degree is to prepare for the SSC CGL exam and get a government job. Because my dream is always helping in our nation and country, I decided to prepare for this exam.

College events, various clubs and facilities available in campus

The campus life is a very beautiful life in my college journey. There are many annual and technical festivals that are conducted on my college campus, like Janmashtami, Navaratri, Ganesh Chaturthi, Diwali, Holi, etc. Also, technical festivals, like Mindband, are Gujarat's largest techno-managerial fest conducted by our college. So the students are participating in this festival and developing their minds and thinking. The central library of NIT Surat is the best and biggest library among all the NITs. There are large amounts of books available in the library as departments and topics-wise describe all books. The good facilities and technological provisions provided in our classroom meet all needs provided to all students. There are many sports games and extracurricular activities offered on campus, like many clubs that join students and develop their skills, and many students also join particular sports games to get the National Level Champion Award.

What is the total fees of the course and scholarship option in the college?

The college fee structure is tuition fees around Rs,125000 per year, and other fees are almost RS. 44000 to date. But the students are included under the SC, ST category; they can get full tuition fee remission. Also, those students whose family income is less than 1 lakh get 100% tuition fee waivers. And those students whose family income is 1-5 lakhs get 2/3 fees remission. The tuition fee increase policy is dependent upon college acts and government policy. The complete cost of my 4-year education is around 3-4 lakh because I am an SC student, so I didn't pay any tuition fee. There are many scholarships students get during their course. Some students get national scholarships. Almost 70-80k scholarships are obtained by NSP scholarships. Also, Gujarat students get the digital Gujarat scholarship. Campus provides large employment and a large amount of jobs because this college is able to attract a large number of big companies and industries.

Students view on course curriculum, examination and teaching methods in the college

I choose this course because I am really happy with the chemical subject and also chemistry. And my brother is a chemical engineer, so he actually asked me what the actual work is as a chemical engineer in industry and other companies. So finally I decide to choose this course. The academic syllabus is very complicated and lengthy so that preparation is very dedicated and consistent. The mid-semester paper is 1.5 hours, and the end-semester paper is 3 hours. And the mid-semester paper is easy compared to the end-semester exam paper because the paper is very lengthy and taught. So that all students preparation is very dedicated and consistent. In my opinion, the teaching method is not very good, so there is room for improvement in teaching methods of the curriculum course. Also improve classroom facilities and infrastructure. The exam time is very difficult for all the students because students consistently prepare 18-20 hours.

What are the facilities provided in the college hostel and its fees?

The hostel facility is always average to good. The room is provided between two students. The facilities provided in the hostel room are two chairs, two beds, two big tables, two almira and lan cables, a fan, etc. The hostel mess meal quality is very good, but sometimes quality is down and quantity is increasing, but the menu is good and very healthy. The admission process for the hostel is after completing the admission process of the college. The registration process of hostel allotment is online for all students. The hostel fee is 56500 per year, including mess fees. So fees are very affordable, and sometimes students get scholarships for hostel fees. After online registration for the hostel, those students who do not appear online can apply through the offline process. The locality's rented room fees are very high, and PG hostel fees are very high, so all college students always get college hostels.

Faculty and their bond with students

The faculty is very highly educated and intelligent. The faculty-to-student ratio is 65 students per one faculty member. The faculty's members have a very high impact on my learning experience because my self-confidence is improved, my learning attitude and quick learner skills are developed, and my effective communication skills and knowledge are highly improved by our faculty. The faculty are very good mentors for all students because facilities are fully supportive of all students and guide and mentor all the students to get high-paying jobs and start-ups. And their quality of teaching is very good and enjoyable with study. I can almost 3-3.5 years of interaction with our professors with good approachability because they are very good at mentoring for me and all students. I am really thankful to all my faculty members.

Eligibility criteria and admission process of the college

The eligibility of the course is you can get best score in your jee mains examination and get good rank. Also you can get 75% in your board examination. Those students fullfill this conditions they eligible for this course. The admission process is conducted by josaa counseling. Josaa counseling is conduct every year for admission of IITs, NITs , IIITs, GFTIs college. I find application form, application fees in josaa website. I also get benifit of reservation. Those students belonging SC, St, OBC they get benifit of reservation. The jee mains examination is very tough because almost 12 lakh jee aspirants appear in jee mains and exam paper is very lengthy and complicated. The admission process is good but josaa counseling is very lengthy process for admission and very long time you need for this counseling so that as my opinion government change this pattern of admission process and conduct short time.

NIT Surat: 30 Answered Questions

How do you feel an Integrated MSc course from NIT Surat (SVNIT) is?

Sapna Malik
Aarti AhujaLives in Ahmedabad

An integrated MSc. from SVNIT will be beneficial for your future as NITs are the second most revered engineering colleges in our country. Chasing one’s dream is a good idea, but one must also be aware of our future prospects. SVNIT is a good choice in terms of placements.

Some of my friends who graduated from SVNIT know of their batchmates who received job offers of around 30 LPA from foreign recruiters. Even Indian organizations pay SVNIT graduates handsomely, but the foreign offers are higher.

Ultimately, it is you who has to make the most of the available opportunities. Thus, I would recommend you join SVNIT for an integrated MSc.

How was your first day at NIT Surat (SVNIT)?

Namrata Das
Saksham GuptaStudied at Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology, Surat (2019)

I had a mixed experience on my first day at SVNIT.

As a fresher, I was allotted a hostel room in GAJJAR BHAVAN. I found a huge crowd of freshers arriving at the hostel entrance. I signed the muster and went inside my hostel room. I had already seen my room during physical reporting, so I was not disappointed at all. I set up my room with the help of my mother, after which, I approached a senior who advised me to get a bicycle because my hostel is quite far from the new CRC building. While I was returning from the bicycle shop, it started raining heavily.

I reached my hostel somehow, and upon finishing all the formalities, me and my parents went to the mess to have our lunch. Upon finishing my lunch, I bid farewell to my parents. This was when I realized that I was on my own. I somehow managed my emotions and consolidated my weeping mother.

After all that, I met a school friend who had fortunately gotten a room beside mine. We finished our dinner a few hours later, and went into my room. But there was a power cut soon after, and it lasted the next morning. I was a bit disappointed. My first night at the hostel was spent without a fan in the month of July.

Despite all the difficulties, it was a start to an amazing journey. This is why I’ll never forget my first day at SVNIT. Also, not to forget, the mess food is actually good at our college.

How is the SVNIT Campus?

Ravindra KumarStudied at Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology, Surat (2019)

SVNIT is one of the few NITs with a campus in the city center. Malls, shops, and movie theaters are all located within a 2 km radius.

The campus is covered in greenery, and the CRC lawns are perfect to sit and relax. The lake and its adjacent garden are on the side, separated by a wall. The campus roads are well constructed.

The infrastructure has been recently renewed and provided with top-notch facilities. Fresher classes are conducted in the huge new CRC building that has glass walls. The senior students study in their respective departments. The hostel facility is average. The sports facilities are also average, but the gym is quite good. Freshers can't access the gym facility.

The campus of SVNIT is good, though there’s always room for improvement. I would recommend you go through some online pictures to get a better idea.

I've got CSE in NSIT, DTU, IIIT-D and NIT Surathkal, which one should I go for?

Akriti Banerjeelives in New Delhi

NIT Surathkal is better than Delhi engineering colleges like NSIT, DTU and IIIT Delhi because it offers a more diverse experience. Here are a few aspects to consider

  • Reputation : NIT Surathkal enjoys the status of being an Institute of National importance and is fully funded by the Central government whereas DTU, NSIT, and IIITD are state government universities
  • Research culture: NIT Surathkal has a rich research culture and facilities and is one of the institutes which is selected for funding from HEFA
  • Academics : NIT Surathkal is a clear winner as its academic environment and curriculum are way better than Delhi colleges. Every year many students win International awards.
  • Campus life: NIT Surathkal has a private beach with a lush green campus of 300 acres. Moreover, its crowd is much more diverse than Delhi colleges which have 85% quota for Delhites.
  • Location : Situated near the IT hub, Bangalore NIT Surathkal students are exposed to more opportunities and a better IT environment. Many Bangalore IT companies give preference to NITK Surathkal students.
  • Placements : NIT Surathkal achieves 100% placement and has a better variety of recruiters than Delhi colleges.
  • Coding Culture: NIT Surathkal has received good rankings in the ICPC Asia Contest and every year many students are selected for Google Summer of Code.
  • ROI : NIT Surathkal offers a better ROI because it charges lesser fees than NSIT, DTU, and IIIT Delhi.

So, it's safe to say NIT Surathkal is a much better option than Delhi colleges.

Is there any Ragging in SVNIT?

Sabeer Chalana
Amit SharmaStudied at NIT Surat

Ragging has practically disappeared from the SVNIT campus. This is because of strict rules and regulations against ragging, made by the college authorities and the country’s lawmakers.

It is beneficial to reach out to your seniors and seek their advice in various matters related to the hostel and college. Being a new student means that you’ll need someone for advice on books, notes, and even the best places to hangout.

It is important to keep in mind that your seniors are no beasts, rather they are students just like you. The seniors might ask for your name, school, and other details. But this is in no way ragging. They do that to know you better and develop a friendly bond with you. There are some seniors who’ll be friendly with you, while others won’t bother at all.

So don’t worry about ragging, and try to develop a healthy bond with your seniors. They’ll be of great help to you in navigating through your engineering degree.

What is the meaning of back semester, back log etc. at SVNIT? What are its consequences?

Sayantani Barman
Jay Shahstudied at Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology, Surat

Semester back and backlog are two different things. Here is the detailed information on this topic-

  • Semester back- A semester back implies that the person is not allowed to enter the next semester. There are a few reasons for semester back. These are-
  1. The person failed to fulfill the minimum 75% attendance criteria. Medical is accepted only for 60% and above attendance category students.
  2. A person with a backlog from 1st year can’t enter his/her 3rd year, and someone with a backlog in the 2nd year can’t enter his/her 4th year.
  3. Someone with 3 or more backlogs can not enter the next year.

The criteria changes from year to year, so make sure to keep a check on that.

Everyone is given a chance to clear their backlogs during the summer semester.

The rules keep changing with time, so it is better to keep yourself updated on the

latest rules regarding backlogs.

  • Backlog- A subject backlog means having failed in that subject in the end semester exams. In this case, two mark sheets are issued for that semester, the second one mentions the total number of attempts.

In case you are trapped in any of these situations, do not panic. Try to clear your backlogs. Do not be disheartened and remember that things will eventually get better.

Amit SharmaStudied at NIT Surat

Here are some things you should know about SVNIT before joining the college-

  1. SVNIT has one of the best hostels in India among technical institutes. The hostels for third and final year boys are great, but first and second year hostels are also good.
  2. It is up to you to make new friends by interacting with people in your hostel, your classes, and the college clubs and societies.
  3. The professors are decent in some of the departments, and not up to the mark in others. First and second year students are mostly taught by teaching assistants. It is your responsibility to gain knowledge from your teachers.
  4. The college gym facility is excellent. The Badminton, Lawn Tennis and Basketball courts are decent. There is a huge Cricket cum Football ground on campus, but it is not maintained properly by the college administration.
  5. Surat City has really good food joints, especially if you are a Gujarati. The hostel mess serves decent food. Initially the mess food feels really likable, but then it starts to become repetitive and boring. This is the case for every hostel.
  6. Every hostel has a night canteen facility, and there is a nice central canteen within the campus.
  7. You won’t be spoon fed, so to get decent grades you’ll have to make a study routine for yourself. No one will tell you to study.
  8. With a decent study routine, you can easily score 7-8 CGPA, and even go on to score 9 CGPA with some extra effort.
  9. There’s plenty of hangout spots around the college, ‘Galla’ being a popular one, just outside the campus. There’s plenty of restaurants in Surat, some are affordable, while some are high-end.
