branch change at SVNIT Surat (Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology) follows the standard NIT branch change policy:

eligibility conditions:

  • you must complete all subjects of Year 1 (both semesters) without any backlogs — all credits cleared
  • minimum CGPA required: typically 8.0 or above (check current SVNIT rules as cutoffs vary year to year)
  • branch change is from lower-demand to higher-demand branches only, based on available vacancies
  • seats open up only if there are vacant seats in the target branch after all admitted students are placed

process: after semester 2 results, SVNIT releases a branch change portal/notification. you apply online, CGPA determines priority. allotment is merit-based. check the official SVNIT website (svnit.ac.in) for the latest circular every year as procedures may update.

honest reality: getting into CSE via branch change at any NIT is very competitive — you typically need 9.0+ CGPA. ECE, EE are slightly easier. plan from Day 1 if branch change is your goal.

You’ll be given a chance to switch to another branch after your first year. The process is known as branch sliding, and it will be based on your first year CGPA and the vacancy in your preferred branch.

For Mechanical, try to obtain a 9.2+ CGPA in your first year. For CSE, at least 9.6 is required because there's always a huge competition for this branch. For Electrical, 8.5 is enough. For Chemical, ECE and Civil, an 8 CGPA is enough.

Try to maintain a good score in your first year for a branch switch at SVNIT.
