Course Curriculum Overview

4

I am just in my 2nd Semester and I chose this course because of the subject combination this course has. I was interested in Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics and the maths which involves some calculus like differential equations etc. Many people say that the curriculum in NIT and IIT are still way too old and i agree with them, the curriculum should be changed according to the needs of today's world. SVNIT is famous for its chemical department and the teaching style of faculties here is quite good too. Exam frequency is not too disturbing, i mean you get much time to prepare for it and the difficulty level is medium. If you start studying at least 2 weeks before the exam you can get decent grades.

Internships Opportunities

3

Internship opportunities are good for the students in circuital branches, for core branches the scenario is not that good. Around 25 students got internship and total number of students seeking for internship were more than 100. You need to be very good at your coding skills and many of the students had made good no of projects and they were selected, all other students try for offline or online internship opportunities and many of them succeed in it too. The data for stipend and number of students getting internships is not disclosed by the college so it is a bit to know about the data for these.

Placement Experience

4

Normally students start preparing for placements rigorously in 3rd year and companies start coming in the starting of the 4th year and the placement drive happens for 9-10 months in different phases. Talking about 2023-2024 placements, there were decrease in no. of companies visiting here and also decrease in the median package due to the recession going on. But in previous years more than 150 companies visted the campus and it included companies like Morgan Stanley, Goldmann Sachs, Flipkart etc. and the no. of students getting placed was quite good too. In chemical department 102/115 students were placed with a median package of around 9 lpa. People also crack GATE in their 3rd year or 4th year, I know one of my senior who cracked GATE with a rank under 10, also there have been students here who had secured rank 1 in GATE. The percentage of students placed also remains decent every year except this particular year since the recession has hit the industry at a good level. The highest package this year was around 52 lpa and the average package was somewhere around 12 lpa.

Fees and Financial Aid

Fee hikes are normal in every college nowadays but i think the govt colleges should not hike fees every year like other private colleges. They are increasing their tuition fees every year for the incoming batch. The total fees for four years of B.Tech here would be around 8,30,000. There are scholarships for everyone, whose family income is between 1 to 5 lakhs they will get 2/3rd tuition fee remission and students belonging to SC/ST category get the whole tuition fee remitted.

Campus Life

4.5

SVNIT arranges a freshers party every year for welcoming their new batch which is called "Kashish". It is generally of two days and generally held in October. Students enjoy singing, dancing and DJ night during this freshers party where students can perform on what they are good at. Another techno cultural fest known as "Sparsh" is of very good budget and is usually held in the month of February for 4-5 days. At present the central library holds 108946 print books and 11526 e-books, also the library has purchased the license to access more than 3900 online science and technology research journals from renowned publishers. The classrooms are spacious and ventilated and all the classrooms doesn't have AC installed, some have it. Sports facilities here are not that good as other NIT'S but the students here are trying very hard to make sports facilites good here. Some of the seniors in 3rd or 4th year start their clubs regarding the mental awareness that many students need. There are such communities which are made by the students only to focus and give some attention on the mental well being of students in the college, anyone can be part of such communities and can talk or share their experiences whatever they like to.

Hostel Facilities

4

For the first year students Gajjar Bhavan is alloted and it is double sharing room. It has a chair, study table, an iron bed and an almirah for each of them. The Mess food is okay, though in the starting you may not like it but as the time passes you will get used to it.There is a menu which is followed throughout the year unless the mess secretary(student chosen by the warden of the hostel) decides to change it with mutual communication with all the other students. The rooms are spacious enough for two people and there is not much problem about it. It's just that some of the rooms and wing are in a pathetic condition here. The E-wing is the worst amongst all the wings, most of the bathrooms of E-wing are not well maintained and internet facilities are a bit bad in case of E-wing. The registration for hostel is also done by the time of admission only and hostel fees is taken per year wise, not per semester wise. There are people too who come after every 3 days to clean the room, if you want then you can say them to clean your room too. Boys get different hostel in every year whereas girls have a single hostel in which they live for all the years until they are a student here. In terms of the quality of rooms, rooms of 2nd, 3rd and 4th year are in better condition and those rooms have attached balconies too.

Admission

I took admission here by scoring 97.4 percentile in JEE Mains. The eligibility for taking admission here is only JEE Main and there are no other exams by which you could get admission here. The admission process sometimes gets very exhausting as many students come during physical reporting and you have to wait and wait until your name is called for offline document verification, otherwise the admission process is smooth. I wanted to take chemical engineering in some of the NIT's like warangal, trichy, calicut, allahabad, surat or rourkela because these NIT's are somewhat famous for chemical department. And due to my percentile in JEE Mains I eventually got NIT Surat.

Faculty

4

I am from chemical engineering department and here most of the faculties are good in my opinion and most of them have done their PhD from very respected universities. What i have experienced is maximum of them are approachable if you want to get your doubts cleared or you want some more insights on a particular topic but it sometimes depends on how much you are showing interest towards the subject. If you are asking something just for fun and you don't have any interest in it then the faculties too aren't much interested in interacting with those particular students. There are two exams held to clear a Semester, the mid semester exam and the end semester exam. Mid semester exam is of 30 marks for each subject and the end semester exam is of 100 marks for each subject and there are also internal marks given which constitutes of quizzes, assignments and short tests. The exams are not that difficult if you study average you can score good in each subject. Most of the people pass in all exams, there are rarely some students who are unable to clear any of the exam.

Night Life

4

In the first semester of the college, you won't be allowed outside the hostel premises after 7:30 pm but after the 1st semester your intime is increased to 9:30 pm and the campus in-time is 10:30pm. The night life is good as far as I have experienced in the college. Usually the classes are over at 6 pm, so after that some go to the library with their friends, canteen, roam around the campus talking with each other, or there's a panipuri stall just beside Gate-2 of the college, people go over their too. Some also go to the gym which is in the Physical Education Building. Mostly the timings of library, canteen are from morning 9:00 am to evening 9 pm, the library is also open till midnight when there's exams going on. There is also a garden just beside the campus which is like a favourite spot for all the couples in our college, its called the "Lakeview Garden".

Other Applied Colleges

NIT Warangal | Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Biotechnology)

Because i was getting chemical engineering at SVNIT and its a better choice than biotech.

The students become eligible for the placements after the completion of 8th semester only. No such good companies are visiting for hireing the students. Students have to find by their own. The highest package is around 3-4 lakh and average is around 2 lakh per anum. The students aren't placed well. Most students are enrollimg by their own (off campus). I want to go for a master degree after completion of current bachelor degree.

Placement Experience:

The placements of pdeu are good , but not as good as compared to Nirma University and daiict . The average package of computer science is around 15 lpa and highest is 38 lpa. I think if you have a cgpa over 8.5 and have the skill that is required by the recruiter Company, there is a better chance of you getting a placement. This year , around 40 students out of 120 got placed in good companies.
