CBSE Class 12 passing marks criteria have been prescribed by the Central Board of Secondary Education or CBSE. As per the CBSE class 12 passing marks criteria prescribed by the board, students must score a minimum of 33% marks in the CBSE class 12 exam to pass. This year, the pass percentage of the Class 12 CBSE Exam is 88.39%. A total of 17,04,367 students registered for the examination, out of which 16,92,794 appeared, and 14,96,307 successfully passed.

CBSE has released the passing marks criteria for the CBSE Class 12 exam 2025 on the official website. The performance of candidates will be evaluated by the board based on the grading system including grades A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2, D1, D2, E1, and E2. Students passing the Class 12 CBSE exam 2025 will be assigned grades of A1 to D2. Candidates failing in CBSE class 12 exam 2025 will get E1 and E2 grades. Students must score a grade higher than E grade to pass CBSE class 12 exam 2025.

What is the Passing Marks Out of 80 in CBSE Class 12?

The passing marks for CBSE across all subjects is 33%. Students must score:

  • 33% in theory.
  • 33% in practicals or internal assessments.
  • 33% aggregate across all subjects.

If each subject has 80 marks, students must score at least 26 to pass. This is 33% of the maximum marks, which can be calculated by multiplying the total marks by 0.33. For example, 80 x 0.33 = 26.4, which rounds down to 26 marks. Suppose you get 27 out of 80. In this case, 27/80 is approximately 33.75%, which exceeds the 33% passing threshold.
