More Admission Dates FAQs
Ques. What is the expected last date to apply for BTech admissions in 2026?
Ans. Application windows differ by exam. For reference, WBJEE 2025 registration closed on February 23, 2025, while institute tests like SRMJEEE/VITEEE closed in April for Phase-I. Expect January–April 2026 as the typical span, but follow each official notification.
Ques. Can I get BTech admission in 2026 without JEE?
Ans. Yes. You can use state CETs (e.g., WBJEE, MHT CET) or institute tests (BITSAT, VITEEE, SRMJEEE, COMEDK UGET, MET), and some private colleges consider Class 12 merit/management quota as per state rules. Govt. institutes like IITs/NITs require JEE ranks.
Ques. When will BTech counselling start for 2026?
Ans. National JoSAA counselling typically begins in early June after JEE results; in 2025 it started June 3 with rounds mid-June to mid-July, followed by CSAB Special Rounds. State counselling (e.g., WBJEE, MHT CET) usually runs July–September. Expect similar windows in 2026.
Admission Routes for BTech 2026
1) National Route: JEE Main/Advanced to JoSAA/CSAB
- JEE Main (NTA): In 2025, Session-1 was conducted from January 22–30 and Session-2 in April 2–9. Expect a similar late-January and early-April pattern in 2026, with official notice by NTA.
- JEE Advanced (IITs): In 2025 the test was on May 18. Expect mid-May 2026 (host IIT to notify).
- Counselling via JoSAA: In 2025, JoSAA registration started June 3, rounds ran mid-June to mid-July for IITs, with NIT+ processes continuing to late July. Plan for June–July 2026.
- CSAB Special Rounds: Post-JoSAA cleanup for NIT+ seats (schedule released by CSAB each year; 2025 updated on August 18). Expect late July–August 2026.
Who should choose this route?
Aspirants targeting IITs, NITs, IIITs, GFTIs or any college that uses JEE Main ranks.
2) State & Private Routes (BTech Admission Without JEE)
You can pursue BTech in 2026 without JEE through:
- State CETs + State Counselling such as WBJEE, MHT CET, COMEDK UGET.
- Institute/Deemed University Tests such as BITSAT, VITEEE, SRMJEEE, MET.
- Institute-Level / Management Quota
Many private colleges also admit using Class 12 marks (and/or their own tests) under institute-level/management quota per state norms; government colleges (IITs/NITs) do not. Always verify caps, merit lists and fees on official state portals.
Counselling & Seat Allocation
JoSAA (IITs + NIT+ System)
- Single portal for IITs, NITs, IIITs, GFTIs.
- In 2025, registration opened June 3; six rounds ran June 14–July 16 (IITs concluded at Round-6; NIT+ continued with PAF and then CSAB). Expect a similar flow in 2026.
CSAB Special Rounds
- After JoSAA, CSAB conducts Special Rounds for remaining NIT+ seats (separate registration/fee). 2025 schedule was published August 18.
State Counselling (examples)
- WBJEE e-counselling: Web-based counselling for engineering/architecture/pharmacy in West Bengal; 2025 counselling began August 28.
- MHT CET CAP: Centralised admissions to engineering colleges in Maharashtra; multiple CAP rounds and institute-level rounds per state rules. 2025 saw rounds till early September.
- COMEDK UGET: Centralised online counselling for member private colleges of Karnataka; registration started June 9, 2025; mock choice filling in July.

Ans. Some private universities may allow admissions in tech-based BTech branches such as:
- Computer Science Engineering (CSE)
- Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning
- Data Science
- Information Technology
Ques. Can I apply for BTech without Physics?
Ans. Yes, but only in select universities under AICTE’s 2021–2026 revised eligibility norms. You must have Mathematics and two eligible subjects.
Ques. Where can I find colleges that accept non-PCM students for BTech?
Ans. Look into private institutions such as:
- UPES
- Amity University
- Shiv Nadar University
- MIT-WPU
Check their admission portals for updated eligibility criteria and branches offered.
Ques. Are AICTE's relaxed subject eligibility rules (for non-PCM students) still applicable for BTech admissions in 2026?
Ans. Yes, the AICTE's revised eligibility guidelines—introduced in 2021—are still valid for BTech admissions in 2026. These guidelines allow students who have studied Mathematics and any two other approved subjects (like Computer Science, IT, Biology, etc.) in Class 12 to apply for certain BTech programs. However, it’s important to note that not all colleges follow these rules uniformly. Many top government institutes (like IITs, NITs, IIITs) still require Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM). Therefore, always check the eligibility criteria on the official website of the specific university or college before applying.
