Karnataka BTech admission is conducted by the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA). The body organises the KCET exam for seat allotment to BTech courses. Many colleges in the state also provide admission based on JEE Main scores.
KEA can start the KCET 2025 registration in January - February 2025. The exam can be conducted in April 2025. The result announcement and counselling process can start from May - June 2025.

Who is eligible for KCET?
The eligibility criteria for KCET are set by the KEA. You must check it before applying. The requirements are as follows.
- You must be an Indian citizen.
- You should have cleared 2nd PUC/ class 12 with Physics and Chemistry and English as one of the languages.
- You must score at least 45% marks in aggregate.
- Candidates from SC, ST, Cat-1, 2A, 2B, 3A and 3B must score 40% marks.
- Biotechnology/ Biology/Electronics or CS are considered if Chemistry marks are less for required percentage.
- Candidates appearing in the QE and expecting results are also eligible.
- Candidates passing QE other than the universities listed on the VTU website and KSOU are not eligible.
- Merit/ Rank is determined by taking equal marks in QE and CET in PCM subjects.

What is the entrance exam for BTech in Karnataka?
KCET is the main entrance exam for BTech admission in Karnataka. The KEA conducts it for admission to government, government-aided and private colleges. Besides the KCET, many engineering colleges accept JEE Main scores for admission to BTech courses.
What is the admission process to BTech through KCET?

- Register yourself on the official KEA website.
- You will receive an application number and user ID on the registered email/ phone number.

What is the Karnataka BTech reservation policy?
KEA reserve some seats for reserved category candidates for BTech admission. It is based on the CET-2006 admission rules and is only for Karnataka candidates. You can check the reservation in the following table.

Reservation is also available for SC, ST and OBC candidates under categories 1, 2A, 2B, 3A and 3B under the Government order. Production of caste certificates is mandatory for claiming reservation. SC, ST and Cat-1 candidates also have to produce income certificates.
How Karnataka BTech counselling is done?
KEA starts the counselling process after the release of the KCET result. The seat allotment is based on the merit list prepared by the authority. The merit list for the TFWS seats is prepared separately. Before choice filling, you have to verify your documents at a KEA centre.
The KCET counselling consists of the following steps.
- Document Verification and Registration - You have to report at the KEA centre as per the schedule for document verification. You will be given a verification slip, unique ID and password upon verification.
- Choice Filling and Locking - Using credentials, you can log in to the portal and select your preferred colleges. You must lock your choices, otherwise the last ones will be automatically locked.
- Seat Allotment - Allotment is done in the merit order and is based on options priority. It will be shown on the official portal. A mock allotment is also released before the actual allotment.
- College Reporting - The last step involves reporting at the allocated college for document verification and admission. The reporting should be done in the time prescribed by the authority.
Candidates who have gotten allotment through other boards have to cancel their allotment before the mop-up/ final round. You can also surrender the seat online by filling in the required details. Allotments are subject to approval by the concerned institutes.

Ques. Can an outside student get admission in Karnataka for BTech through KCET?
Ans. Outside students cannot get admission to BTech in Karnataka through KCET as it is only conducted for candidates of Karnataka. Candidates from other states can consider exams like JEE Main that have no domicile restrictions and are accepted in most colleges.
Ques. Can I get admission to BTech in Karnataka with an overall 71% in the 2nd PUC?
Ans. You can get admission to BTech courses in Karnataka with a 71% score in the 2nd PUC. KEA has stated that candidates should have a minimum of 45% marks in class 12/ 2nd PUC. Other than the marks, you also have to meet the other eligibility criteria set by the conducting authority.
