Jammu and Kashmir BTech admission is conducted by the Jammu and Kashmir Board of Professional Entrance exam (JKBOPEE). The admission is based on the Common Entrance Test (CET) exam followed by a counselling process.
JKBOPEE is expected to conduct CET 2025 in June 2025. The choice filling for the first round can be conducted between June - July 2025. College reporting and admission for the first round are expected in July 2025.
BTech is an undergraduate program in the field of engineering. In the 4-year course, you will learn about different aspects of engineering and technology. What is the BTech eligibility in Jammu and Kashmir?
The JKBOPEE sets the eligibility criteria for BTech admission in Jammu and Kashmir. You are required to meet the qualifications before applying for the course. You can check the eligibility below.
- You should have passed class 12 or equivalent exam from a recognised statutory board/university.
- You must have Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subjects in class 12.
- You must score at least 45% of marks taken together for open merit category candidates, including specific categories.
- Candidates from SC, ST, RBA, ALC, IB and OBC must score 40% in class 12.
- Candidates appearing in the class 12 exam can also appear in the CET 2025. They have to meet the criteria by the time the CET result/ admission is announced.
- There is no upper age limit for applying for the BTech course.
- You must have a UT of J&K domicile or an ST Certificate from UT of Ladakh, to be treated as domicile.
How to get admission to BTech courses in Jammu and Kashmir?
Jammu and Kashmir BTech admission is conducted by the JKBOPEE in a completely online format. You have to fill out the application form, upload documents and pay the application fee to get your candidature accepted. You can check the general steps involved listed below.
- You have to first register yourself on the official website of the JKBOPEE.
- After registration, you can proceed to fill out the application form.
- After entering the details, you have to select the click here link.
- An application number will be generated and a confirmation mail will be sent to your registered email address.
- You have to pay the application fee using an online method.
- After paying the application fee, upload the necessary documents as required.
- Take a printout of the application form for future reference.
- You can check your application status by logging into the online portal.
- You can make changes to the application form any time before the final submission.
Candidates are considered for selection under one reserved category only, even if they have more than one reserved category certificate. The category that will be considered will be the one chosen at the relevant serial number of the application form.
You must submit the category certificate along with the application form to claim reservation benefits, otherwise, you will be considered under the open category. TFW seats are reserved for open merit category candidates with family income below INR 4.50 LPA.

The reservation is available only to candidates domiciled in Jammu and Kashmir. The following reservation policy is implemented for seats in government BTech colleges.

What is the exam scheme for Jammu and Kashmir BTech admission?
Admission to BTech courses in Jammu and Kashmir is based on the CET 2025 entrance exam and is based on class 12. The exam is conducted in an offline mode (OMR) and consists of MCQs. There is a negative marking of 0.25 for each wrong answer. You will not be considered for admission if you score less than 10 marks. The broad distribution of questions is as follows.

How is counselling done for Jammu and Kashmir BTech admission 2025?
The counselling process for Jammu and Kashmir BTech admission starts after the CET result. The merit list is based on your entrance exam scores and eligibility. The list is prepared in inter-se merit of candidates in CET 2025 in descending order for the open merit category and for each reserved category separately.
For seat allotment to the reserved category candidates in government engineering colleges, inter-se merit within each reserved category is considered. If you have cleared the exam, you can fill out the online preference form and select your preferred colleges.
You can modify your preferences before finally submitting/locking them. You also have to pay the non-refundable deposit fee of INR 1500 to lock your preferences. You should take a printout of the reference form for future reference.
The general counselling steps are as follows.
- You have to first register yourself by clicking on the Sign Up page on the online portal.
- You have to submit the form by clicking on the submit button.
- Upon submission, your username will be shown which will be the same as your CET roll number.
- You have to activate your account by providing the OTP sent to your registered email.
- After logging in, you can submit your preferences. Selected preferences will be saved automatically.
- You can also modify/delete your preferences before the last date or before locking them.
- Once the preferences are locked, no changes can be made to them.
- After choice locking, pay the deposit fee online. Applications without locked choices or unpaid fees are not considered.
- You should take a printout of the preferences selected for future reference.
Seat allotment is based on merit cum preference and reservation rules through the counselling process. You should clearly indicate the institutes which you want to join in order of preference. If required, a physical round of counselling can also be conducted in which you have to appear in front of the counselling committee. If you are allotted a seat in the first round of counselling, you have to compulsorily join that college within the prescribed time and complete all the admission formalities.
If you are looking for an upgrade, you have to initially accept the first allotment and join the college, otherwise, you will not be eligible for the second round. If you do not join the allotted seat, it is considered vacant. Any seats that become available due to non-joining/resignation are made available in the subsequent rounds.
You can also participate in the second round if you do not get any allotment in the first round. Once allotted a seat, you have to report at the allocated institute within the provided time to complete admission formalities and confirm the admission.
