UP BTech admission 2025 is conducted by the Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU). The seats are allocated based on JEE Main scores followed by the UPTAC counselling process.
UPTAC 2025 registration will be conducted between June - July 2025. The choice filling is expected to start in August 2025. You can report to your allocated college between August - September 2025 for admission to the first round.
BTech is a 4-year undergraduate course in the field of engineering. You should have cleared class 12 with a minimum of 45% marks from a recognised board to be eligible for the UP BTech admission process.

What is the BTech eligibility in UP?
The eligibility for BTech courses in UP is set by the AKTU. Before applying for the UPTAC counselling, you must ensure that you meet the qualifications. You can check the eligibility below.
- You should have passed class 12 with a minimum of 45% marks from a recognised board.
- You must have completed class 12 with physics, chemistry and mathematics/biology as compulsory subjects and one relevant subject as per the specialisation.
- Candidates from SC and ST categories must only score 40% marks in class 12.
- You are also eligible if you have passed the DVoc stream in the same or allied sector.
- You must have a valid JEE Main score.
- There is no age limit for admission to the BTech program.
- You will not be eligible if the result of your qualifying exam is not declared.
- FN/PIO/CIWGC candidates should have passed the qualifying exam with PCM considered equal to the class 12 exam by the AIU.
How to get admission to BTech in UP?
UP BTech admission is conducted by AKTU. The application process is completely online. After meeting the eligibility criteria, you can proceed to the application form following the below steps.
- You have to register on the UPTAC official website by providing your email address and mobile number (You can only register for the first and special rounds)
- You have to pay the counselling fee during the registration.
- Upload the documents (colour photograph and signature) to complete the registration.
- Note the application form number and take a printout of the application form for future reference.
- After registration, you can proceed with the choice filling.
Counselling is open to candidates who clear the qualifying exam in UP or whose parents are UP domicile. Those from outside UP must upload a parent’s domicile certificate during registration. Non-UP candidates meeting eligibility can apply for 20% of AIQ seats.
15% of the total sanctioned seats in the private colleges are filled by the management quota/ NRI candidates. NRI candidates meeting the qualifications can get direct admission to 5% of seats of the total intake in state-funded and private institutes of UP.
Direct admission is offered to KM according to the latest AICTE instructions and UP Government order. Such admissions are over and above the sanctioned intake and are limited to 1 admission per AKTU-affiliated college. 5% of approved intake seats are reserved for the fee waiver category to EWS meritorious candidates.
A weightage of 3% of total marks obtained in JEE Main is given to candidates who have passed the qualifying exam from an institute located in the rural area of UP. You cannot apply for rural weightage if you are applying for any other reservation.
What are the fees for UP BTech admission 2025?
You have to pay the counselling fee of INR 1,000 during the registration process. The fee is non-refundable and is the same for different category candidates. It can be paid using online methods like credit card, debit card or UPI.
What are the required documents for UP BTech admission 2025?
During the UPTAC registration, you have to upload specific documents to complete the registration process. You can check the documents required listed below.

- A copy of the signature.

What is the reservation policy for UP BTech admission 2025?
The reservation policy for BTech admission in the state is set by the Government of UP. It is only applicable to the UP candidates. The reservation is for both government-funded institutes and private unaided institutes. You can check the reservation in the following table.

Candidates can claim only one type of horizontal reservation. Your category/ sub-category must be supported by relevant documents as prescribed by the UPTAC during counselling.
What is the counselling process for UP BTech admission 2025?
Admission to BTech courses in UP is done through the UPTAC counselling. It is conducted in 6 rounds. The first 4 rounds are for the normal counselling and the fifth round is for internal sliding. A special round of counselling is conducted for the remaining vacant seats. The counselling process is as follows.
- You have to log in to the portal for counselling.
- After registration, your uploaded documents will be verified and the confirmation will be sent to your registered email/ phone number.
- After receiving the confirmation, you can make the choice filling. You can select as many choices as you want.
- The seat allotment result will be released based on your JEE Main scores, preference, category and seat availability.
- You have to confirm your allotment by paying the seat confirmation fee and reporting at the allotted college within the specified time.
Once the allotted seat is confirmed, you have to download the provisional admission letter. If you are not satisfied with the allotment, you can freeze, float or withdraw the option. The facility of seat withdrawal is provided in round 2 and round 3.
After the release of the allotment result, you can freeze or float your seat by paying the seat acceptance fee. The seat acceptance fee for general category candidates is INR 20,000 and INR 12,000 for SC and ST candidates. It is not refunded under any circumstances even if you do not report at the allocated college.
The allotment and willingness details will be displayed on your login page. If you have frozen your seat, then you will not be eligible for the next round. If you have not accepted the allotment or not paid the seat acceptance fee, you will not considered for the subsequent rounds.
New candidates, candidates who have exercised the freeze/float option in the previous round and are looking for upgradation and candidates without any allotment in the previous round can appear in the next counselling rounds.
For the special round of counselling, you have to again register, upload the documents for verification and pay the counselling fee. You also have to pay INR 20,000 as the seat confirmation fee. The amount will be refunded if you do not get any allotment after this round.

UP BTech Admission 2025: FAQs
Ques. What entrance exams are accepted for BTech admission in UPTAC?
Ans. JEE Main is the main entrance exam that is accepted for admission to BTech courses in the state of UP through the UPTAC counselling. BTech Biotechnology and BTech Agriculture are exceptions as their admission is based on the CUET UG exam. If you have a valid JEE Main scorecard, you can appear in the UPTAC counselling process.
Ques. I got admission to BTech in AKTU affiliated college under the fee waiver category. Can I apply for a UP government scholarship?
