SRCC BA (Hons.) Economics FAQs

Ques. Is Mathematics compulsory for BA (Hons.) Economics at SRCC?

Ans. Yes, Mathematics is mandatory for admission to BA (Hons.) Economics at SRCC and all Delhi University colleges. Candidates must have appeared in Mathematics as a domain subject in CUET (UG). If a candidate has not appeared in Mathematics in CUET, they are not eligible for BA (Hons.) Economics admission at DU, regardless of their Class 12 subjects.

Ques. What is the difference between BA (Hons.) Economics and B.Com (Hons.) at SRCC?

Ans. BA (Hons.) Economics is a more theory and research-oriented programme with a strong focus on mathematical and statistical tools, economic theory, and policy analysis. B.Com (Hons.) is more commerce and business-oriented, covering accounting, taxation, corporate law, and finance. Economics graduates often pursue MA/PhD in Economics, research roles, or careers in policy and consulting, while B.Com graduates more commonly go into finance, accounting, and business roles. Both programmes share the same placement cell and have similar fee structures.

Ques. What CUET score is needed for BA (Hons.) Economics at SRCC?

Ans. In 2025, the CUET cutoff for BA (Hons.) Economics at SRCC was 909 out of 1000 for the General category in Round 1. For SC category it was 723, for ST it was 610, for OBC-NCL it was 802, and for EWS it was 824. These are among the highest cutoffs for Economics programmes across DU colleges.

Ques. What are the career options after BA (Hons.) Economics from SRCC?

Ans. Graduates have diverse career paths: direct placements in consulting (McKinsey, BCG, Dalberg), investment banking (Deutsche Bank, Avendus), research organisations (S&P Global, Gartner), and FMCG. Many also pursue higher education such as MA Economics at DSE or ISI Delhi, MBA at IIMs or ISB, or international programmes at LSE, Oxford, or US universities. The average package in 2026-27 was Rs. 9.9 LPA, with the highest at Rs. 36 LPA.

Ques. Does SRCC BA (Hons.) Economics have a separate placement process from B.Com (Hons.)?

Ans. No, both BA (Hons.) Economics and B.Com (Hons.) students are placed through the same Placement Cell at SRCC. The placement process, recruiters, and statistics are combined for both programmes. However, Economics students tend to attract more research, policy, and consulting-focused roles, while B.Com students attract more finance and accounting roles.

Ques. Can a student from a non-Commerce background (Science/Arts) apply for BA (Hons.) Economics at SRCC?

Ans. Yes, students from any stream (Science, Commerce, or Arts) can apply for BA (Hons.) Economics at SRCC, provided they have appeared in Mathematics in CUET (UG). The eligibility is based on CUET scores and Class 12 marks (minimum 50% for General category), not on the stream studied in Class 12. Many Science stream students with strong Mathematics backgrounds successfully gain admission to this programme.

SRCC: 1 Answered Question

Which is better: H.B.Econ. from SRCC or IPM from IIM Indore?

Amrapali PatelMBA from Indian Institute of Management Indore (2020)

SRCC is an established and well-known institution affiliated with the University of Delhi. The institution has a pretty good faculty and the curriculum being taught there is also considered to be of high standards. If you are planning to prepare a solid CV for your career, I would suggest that you opt for a course of your interest at SRCC.

These are just some views I gathered by interacting with students of these institutes.

  • The curriculum followed at IPM has been mocked by several candidates because of its diversity. It does not include specific topics for a particular specialization.
  • However, for the batch of 2016-21, a new curriculum has been introduced by the authorities which is more focussed on areas like Economics, Quantitative aptitude, Philosophy, Psychology, and Sociology.
  • These areas are also considered to be the 5 pillars of management at the PGDM level by many individuals working in the field of business and management.
  • The placement of the institution is also quite good with the average package approximately equal to the amount which usually gets offered to candidates studying at the Postgraduate level.
Categories Economics (Hons.) at SRCC IPM at IIM Indore
Course Fee 45,000 26 lakh
Course Duration 3 years 5 years
Highest CTC 25 LPA 28 LPA
Average CTC 8-10 LPA 15-18 LPA
Recruiting Companies Deloitte, KPMG, EY, Amazon, etc. ICICI Bank, American Express, Mindtree, HCL, etc.

My brother was eligible for admission at SRCC but instead, he opted for IPM because it was favoring his interests, environment, and several other factors. You can too make a decision based on your interests and several other factors which you think are important for your career.
