What students say about University of Michigan
Likes
- Courses are really good for my department, one of the best masters programs in the university and the largest department here.
- They do offer intern/research experience for undergraduates through a program called UROP, but I preferred to apply and interview for a real job in research on campus rather than using their program.
- The placements are really good, with good packages, and many renowned companies come for placement drives to take students, so there are lots of opportunities.
- There was a special application for the scholarship where, along with 2 LoRs and an SoP, I had to write an essay on a topic that was given that year.
- Wifi is available throughout the entire campus and the Library is open 24x7.
- I like the freedom and space of my own apartment, but the dorms are well-structured, and the food and RAs were all top-notch.
- I am not sure about the fee structure, but I do know that there is an in-state and out-of-state tuition, which is a HUGE difference.
- The faculty themselves are great; they encourage students to meet them during office hours, and the ratio is about 1 faculty to 20 students.
- Good university for my program, and one of the best ECE departments in the USA, UMICH is also highly rated among all others for masters and graduate programs with some of the best engineering courses.

- Only dislike is that it can be too big at times and it is very cold. Otherwise all of the above are great! .

Academics and locations. It was definitely a work hard play hard experience. I also wanted a school with school spirit and a good sports program that was not too far from home.
Fees
Total out-of-state tuition and room and board comes out to around $70,000 USD for undergraduate business students.

Overview
The reason I chose to go to the USA was the economic stability and a very systematic education system. It's much easier to stay here than in other countries according to me. The University of Michigan was ranked no. 4 in USA for civil engineering when I joined. However, the major factors were the course structure, flexibility in taking courses outside of the department, and research opportunities and funds. U of M being an R1 University is one of the highest funded Universities in the USA. As for the flexibility in coursework, I took half of the credits for my degree from outside of the department which gave me knowledge and insights of various other disciplines. All sorts of career opportunities can be achieved here. There are various career fairs and workshops to help students improve their resumes, network with potential employers and get well-earning jobs. The name of the University itself weighs a lot and it's not very difficult to get a job even during the recession. My overall experience in the past 2 years has been excellent and I have enjoyed my time here to the fullest. I did great in my academics, learned various subjects, networked with people, participated in various student-run organizations on campus, and made plenty of friends. My experience during my Master's was awesome and hence I decided to pursue my PhD from the same University.
Fees
I completed my master's program in 1 year (i.e. 2 semesters). The tuition per semester was 28k USD so total tuition I paid was 56k USD. Generally, it takes 3 semesters to get a master's.
Likes:
- Flexiblity in my research on a topic I am passionate about. Also, everyone in my lab is welcoming and helpful - no judgments. There's a lot of events ongoing that helps me network and possible collaboration opportunities among different fields. null
Dislikes:
- Just the winters here sometimes get very long, so the first year can be an adjustment, specially for people from our countries, since we are usually not used to long winters. null
Overview
"Yes, I submitted SoP, 3 LoRs, CV. Interview for the PhD program was technical - questions about my field, and past projects. No implementation questions were asked, only conceptual. " My advisor is my most preferred advisor in my field, university also ranks well in terms of rankings and reputation. Overall experience has been really good. It is filled with diverse learning opportunities both inside and outside the classroom. The vibrant campus life, and supportive faculty, fostered an environment of growth and discovery. We can also engage in various clubs and organizations which helps develop leadership skills. Research collaboration opportunities are immense, this helps me as a PhD student to understand various perspectives of a problem I am trying to work on.
Fees
Tuition is waived for all PhD students

- U-M is not only known for its strong academics, but I also love the campus life it has. It was also very appealing to me as well since it’s only 45 minutes away from home .
Overview
I have really enjoyed my time at the University of Michigan. Not only have I enjoyed the degree program that I am currently doing, but I have had the pleasure of meeting some great faculty and students who I’m sure will help me in my future as a potential medical student.
Fees
I’m not sure what the tuition fees are as I am fully covered for my tuition for every semester.
Likes:
- It is a public ivy league college which an amazing course structure and advantages. null
Overview
University of Michigan is an extremely professional university with tons of different departments and amazing professors. The experience they hold is amazing and they are extremely approachable and always available over email. The university also targets student’s safety on day to day basis.
Fees
27000$ per semester.
Likes:
- University of Michigan is one of the most prestigious universities. It is huge, a great place to walk around, safe, has great education and research opportunities, big name (Public Ivy). It boasts a large diverse student body and celebrates different cultures and perspectives. The sports culture is big with the football stadium being the second largest stadium in the world and I would definitely recommend watching a match there once. null
- The University of Michigan has the best Health Informatics program in the US. null
Dislikes:
- Considering it is a public university, the tuition fee is very high for all the programs that you take although there are many funding opportunities. It is a small college town therefore sometimes one might get bored of exploring the same places. A car is beneficial if you are not within walking distance of campus. The bus feasibility is good but it can take up a lot of your time traveling if you do not look up the bus timings before hand and leave accordingly. null
Overview
I would say it is an amazing university. Your choice to come here should depend on how good the program is and not how good the university is. I like the university, the town, and the people so far. I would recommend this university and program to everyone.
Fees
26K USD per semester, 4 semesters for a 2 year program.
Overview
The program I was looking for is one of the top programs in this University. I received a good scholarship. This paid me stipend every month and covered my tution fees for all 5 years of the program.
Fees
$55,000
Overview
Good university for my program and one of the best ECE departments in the USA, umich is also a very good rated university among all others for masters and graduate programs with one of the best engineering courses. Good engineering department and faculty as well as good research groups.
Overview
The program was the most important factor. I also really liked the community and the opportunities for research since it's the 1st public research institute in the country. I wanted to do CS through an arts college and get a breadth of interdisciplinary knowledge. I wanted to challenge myself with a bunch of competitive people but I also didn't want that to be a driving force. The people at UMich are extremely helpful and kind too and will help anyone struggling as compared to places where I come to the first mentality.
Fees
$ 60,000 (out of state tuition).
Overview
Their kinesiology college allowed me to pursue a bachelors in movement science while completing pre-med requirements. The college accepts freshman so I wouldn't have to waste a year doing basic studies in the main LS&A college, and could sooner focus on interests.
Fees
Not sure what this is asking or what fees and charges it refers to. I have no fees at this time nor do I expect to be charged.
