Course Curriculum

10

  • I'd rate the course difficulty level as 8/10. The assignments are time consuming and huge. But they are both a mix of theoretical and practical learning which makes it interesting.
  • I feel most things about the curriculum is positive. We mostly have 2 classes in a day and it's upto 3-4hrs max. The timings differ from morning 9 to evening 8. The average number of students in my school is around 250 spanning across 4 departments.

Admission Experience

  • I applied for the following universities:
    • University of California, Berkeley,
    • University of Pennsylvania,
    • University of Michigan, Ann Arbour.
  • I got acceptance from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbour, since this was my best application in comparison to the other universities. Also, all three universities are very competitive and ambitious in terms of their reputation and selection processes.
  • I chose the University of Michigan because of its reputation, course curriculum, and huge alumni network. The university is highly respected among recruiters and is known for its educational history. It holds a great ranking and assures a great return on investment. The university has great student support and hosts intercultural events to connect with students and peers and improve your networking.
  • I applied to the Fall 2024 intake since it is an ideal time of year and academic wise. One can graduate by summer for internships and jobs.
  • The admission decision came within 3 months and the process took 1 month until accepting the offer and admission. The process was very easy and we had constant support from the university in case of any doubts.

Faculty

10

  • The faculty-to-student ratio in the first semester has been 1:30. This is a fair ratio, as they offer personal discussions and office hours to students other than class timings.
  • The teaching methodology is very comprehensive and keeps us interested in the subject. Sometimes the curriculum and assignments are redundant but it gets better eventually.

Campus Life

10

  • Our university has 2 campuses—North and Central. All facilities are available on campus. Our campus has several events but Festifall is a huge event that introduces freshmen to various clubs and groups.
  • There are clubs and bodies that host extracurricular things like painting, study teams, ice skating, outings, sports, and fitness activities to keep interesting things happening throughout.

Part Time Jobs

  • I am not very sure how many people typically secure the roles but the roles have good pay and they waive off the semester fees as well. Other on-campus jobs include part-time jobs at different schools, dining, and hospitals, which people can do up to 20 hours a week. It's not very difficult to secure a part-time job on campus. One can easily compensate for their rent and utilities with this money.
  • Mdining, other schools. The university pays up to 17 dollars per hour and students can work up to 20 hours a week. It is not very difficult for students to get into part-time jobs while studying, but one has to be very careful while they do part-time jobs since it can be quite exhausting by the end of the day. But if managed properly, its not impossible to do part-time work along with studies and assignments.

Placement

8

  • Based on our past history, people do manage to get good jobs and work post completion. There are various career fairs organised throughout the year for students to make contacts and make connections with the industry experts and representatives.
  • Other than this, the university has several means of events where people can build contacts with other alumnus and industry members.

Accommodation

Off Campus
10

  • I opted for off campus accommodation with help of contacts through whatsapp groups from the university groups. The monthly rent is around 50p-600$ per month including utilities.
  • I would suggest students to go for sharing rooms in the beginning and spend more time in the university than spending a lot on accommodation. My accommodation is close to the North campus is 25mins to three Central campus.

Exams

  • TOEFL or IELTS are mandatory. GMAT and SAT are mandatory for a few courses.
  • For the University of Michigan, documents such as 3 letters of recommendation, a resume, and a portfolio were compulsory.
  • They didn't have a personal statement as such but asked us to answer specific questions that covered the major questions one answers in the SOP and personal statement.

Fees

  • My semester fee is around thirty thousand dollars. My monthly expenditures are not a lot since everything is mostly provided by the university. I only have to pay rent and utilities and personal expenses such as clothing, groceries sometimes, and restaurants.
  • The university is really good at hosting events, which gives us enough opportunities to get free food and other things. The transportation is also free for campus students.

Scholarship

  • Sometimes people get scholarships, and there are a lot of ways in which we can get course fees waived off, such as becoming research assistants, graders, GSIs, or RAs. If not, one will have to pay the whole fee.
  • Some of my batchmates, who are mostly American citizens, have managed to get scholarships but partially. I am not sure how many students receive scholarships every year.
