Likes

Dislikes
- Just the winters here sometimes get very long, so the first year can be an adjustment, specially for people from our countries, since we are usually not used to long winters.
"Yes, I submitted SoP, 3 LoRs, CV. Interview for the PhD program was technical - questions about my field, and past projects. No implementation questions were asked, only conceptual. " My advisor is my most preferred advisor in my field, university also ranks well in terms of rankings and reputation. Overall experience has been really good. It is filled with diverse learning opportunities both inside and outside the classroom. The vibrant campus life, and supportive faculty, fostered an environment of growth and discovery. We can also engage in various clubs and organizations which helps develop leadership skills. Research collaboration opportunities are immense, this helps me as a PhD student to understand various perspectives of a problem I am trying to work on.
Course Curriculum
Courses are good. I took research oriented courses, and they are very good.
Faculty
Faculty and staff are very good, helpful. My advisor is motivating, and we always brainstorm ideas about my research. She is also flexible to work on topics that I am really passionate about.
Campus Life
Campus life is also good, a feeling of connection to everyone in my cohort. They have a class for first year graduate students to connect and I found some friends from there. A lot of campus wide events happen frequently. Research facilities are amazing.
Placement
I can talk about opportunities after a PhD here - many top industries like Google, Microsoft, Apple, Amazon, Meta hire for research scientist roles, etc. Many students also go to universities as tenure track professors.
Accommodation
Accomodation is quite good. Ann Arbor is a student town so it gets competitive, better to apply early after you receive the offer.
Exams
"GRE, 2019, 156 Verbal 170 Quant 4 AWA; TOEFL 2021, 113/120 These were the only exams I gave, " Interviews with the professors I wanted to work with - discussion about my research, and knowledge in NLP. Not very difficult.
