Washington University in St. Louis Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027

Indian applicants need a strong bachelor’s degree from a UGC-recognised university plus WES-verified transcripts and an English proficiency score. Programme-specific test requirements vary by school.

PG requirements:

  • Academic: Bachelor’s degree with minimum 70% or CGPA 7.0/10 (recommended); MS Computer Science admits historically average 80% or CGPA 8.0/10
  • English proficiency: TOEFL iBT 100 (0-120 legacy scale) or band 5.0 (1-6 new 2026 scale), IELTS Academic 7.0, Duolingo English Test 130
  • Transcript verification: WES ICAP course-by-course evaluation strongly recommended for Indian degrees
  • Standardised tests: GRE optional at most McKelvey masters programmes since 2021; GMAT or GRE optional at Olin MBA and specialised masters

UG requirements:

  • Academic: Class 12 with 85% or above (CBSE/ISC/state boards), predicted grades AA-AB for IB, strong AP or A-Level trajectory
  • English proficiency: Same TOEFL, IELTS and Duolingo minimums as graduate applicants

Washington University in St. Louis FAQs

Ques. What English-medium bachelor programmes does Washington University in St. Louis offer?

Ans. All undergraduate programmes at Washington University in St. Louis are taught in English. Popular options for Indian applicants include BS Computer Science, BS Business Administration at Olin, BS Biomedical Engineering at McKelvey, BS Biology and BA Economics. Enrolment is direct with no separate English-medium track required. International applicants must clear the English proficiency requirement (TOEFL 100 or IELTS 7.0) unless a waiver applies.

Ques. How many hours can WashU international students work on campus?

Ans. F-1 visa holders at WashU may work up to 20 hours per week on campus during regular semesters. Full-time work up to 40 hours is permitted during official university breaks. Off-campus work requires either Curricular Practical Training (CPT) tied to a course requirement or post-graduation OPT authorisation. Unauthorised off-campus work risks visa termination and future US visa denials.

Ques. Does Washington University in St. Louis waive the TOEFL for Indian applicants?

Ans. Yes but only in specific cases. Applicants who completed at least three years of undergraduate study in the United States or another English-speaking country may request a TOEFL waiver. Indian English-medium bachelor programmes do not qualify automatically. IELTS Academic 7.0 or Duolingo 130 are accepted as TOEFL alternatives with no waiver process needed for those two.

Ques. Can WashU MBA applicants get a GMAT waiver in 2027?

Ans. Yes. The Olin Full-Time MBA has made GMAT and GRE submission optional since 2020. Applicants may still submit scores voluntarily to strengthen weaker academic profiles or applications for merit scholarships. Waiver requests are not required. Simply do not submit a score if you choose not to test. Verified undergraduate quantitative coursework helps in the absence of a test score.

Public sector banks including SBI Global Ed-Vantage and Bank of Baroda offer loans up to ₹1.5 crore. Collateral is typically required above ₹40 lakh at PSU banks. Overview

My overall experience at my college has been amazing. I got to learn a lot from my friends and faculty. I also got involved into extracurriculars being part of Student Coordinating Council and International Student Association.

Campus Life

9

The campus life is extremely engaging and fun. They have our own baseball and football teams. They also have our own gym. We have a number of student associations to cater to students' needs. There are also a number of concerts on campus from eminent singers and performers.

Overview

I loved the balance between academics and fun. I loved how collaborative friendly and happy it is. And I love the flexibility across schools. For example, I am majoring and double minoring across three of the five schools. I learned about this college through word of mouth in my town. It is always very popular among high scholars in my town and so many people talk about it and I was encouraged to apply.

Fees

They have a need-aware admissions policy and they also meet all demonstrated need I believe. It makes an environment in the school in which all students may feel passionate about what they are studying and can be there without financial concerns. Everyone given their unique backgrounds brings unique perspectives.

Overview

WashU is a great school offering a program focused on Movement System Impairments, which is what I am interested in practicing as a clinician. It is also a top-ranked program and the city of St. Louis is very reasonable to live in.

Fees

It is a 3-year program with 3 semesters each year. Each academic semester is the same cost and each clinical experience has its own cost that is very reduced compared to a clinical semester.

Overview

It was the best value because I got a full scholarship/highest rank. Also when I visited I could imagine a high quality of life for myself due to the beautiful dorms and yummy food. It was big enough that I could meet new people every day if I wanted to but not big enough that I would feel lost.
